To ask what the rudest thing your child has said to you in a melt down?

Tonight my very hormonal, 12 year old, pre teen told me to “shove off” when I made a joke about her playing with Lego instead of tidying her room. Quickly followed up with “you ruin everything”. It took me back a bit to be honest. It was completely out of character. It got me wondering 2 things:

  1. is this normal teenage behaviour? Or is my child suddenly going off the rails?

  2. what’s the worst thing your child has said in a rage.

"Where's mummy? Is she dead?"

Followed with a look of disappointment when I walked into the room.

😂😂😂

Louloulouenna · 17/07/2023 20:05

I once went to an important work meeting, sat down and opened my notebook in front of everyone and DD had written “I hate you” in felt tip on the front page, large enough for everyone to see. Fortunately we now laugh about it.

RoseDog · 17/07/2023 20:05

Mines is the opposite, I was having a rant at my son, he was 12 or 13 I think, I can't remember what he had done to make me mad but his response was a cool calm "settle petal" how I did not throttle him I don't know!

takealettermsjones · 17/07/2023 20:07

Toddler told me she liked her other mummy better.

There is no other mummy, no female partner, no stepmum, nothing... 🤨 Never did get to the bottom of that one!

Louloulouenna · 17/07/2023 20:07

Oh and ds once came into our room early to hop into bed with us and after pulling back the covers he quickly trotted out of the room and I heard him telling his sister to “come and look how big mum’s bum is”. I wouldn’t have minded but I was a size 10 at the time.

StJulian2023 · 17/07/2023 20:10

That “things would be much better if you’d died instead of daddy” 😭😭😭

He really didn’t mean it and was SO sorry afterwards. Grief.

Tbh, I regularly think things would indeed be much better if it had been me. But there we are. I don’t voice it.

I’m going to be that parent, ‘meltdown’ is really not a term to be thrown around copiously. I’m not assuming your child doesn’t have additional needs op, but as can already be seen in this thread, a teenage strop and an ASD meltdown are really quite different things.

You can't just change the meaning of words to suit you, noe control how others use perfectly reasonable words.

SuperGinger · 17/07/2023 20:11

"I'm very disappointed in you" said very cold voice with utterly deadpan face is common here with DS age 12. He doesn't do meltdowns just icy cold responses.

I’m not changing anything, there is a distinct difference between a tantrum and a meltdown.

debbs77 · 17/07/2023 20:12

Not words as such, but my 17 year old just moved to live with her father.

The man who walked out on us, started a new family, and has never once been there for her or her siblings.

All over some money x

Trying2310 · 17/07/2023 20:12

My ASD PDA and ADHD 12 year shouts the most horrific things during a meltdown. A lot of them mentioned by other pp who have teenagers additional needs. If only he just stormed off just shouting he hated me in a teenage strop.

StJulian2023 · 17/07/2023 20:12

Some of these are so hilarious 🤣 afterwards, anyway!

I’m a little bit in awe - that’s amazing! Not sure I would have kept my cool though!

Harry Potter fan?

"Dry up Dursley you great prune".

Nothing else to add to the thread as DS is only 7 months old Grin

Must be!! We are currently reading it to him

nutbrownhare15 · 17/07/2023 20:17

'I hate you' and 'i don't have a mummy any more'. Age 4.

YukoandHiro · 17/07/2023 20:18

I got told something very similar by my six year old the other day (I'd given her sister the last lolly in the freezer while she was out) so think you're doing v well if you're only just getting this at 12!

YukoandHiro · 17/07/2023 20:18

CurlewKate · 17/07/2023 19:33

My dd said "Back off, old woman, your time has past!!"

Do I win??

🤣🤣🤣

Alwaystired2023 · 17/07/2023 20:22

My two year old told me I was 'annoying' when I told her it was sleepy time 🤣 (I don't describe people as annoying around her I assume she picked it up at the childminders)

LondonLovie · 17/07/2023 20:23

Oh like: I hate you I wish I had a different mummy. That was pretty hurtful. She retracted it later at least Blush

queenofthewild · 17/07/2023 19:41

DS4 does this.

'I can't hear the baby. Has she died?'
'Oh. She just made a noise. She's not dead.'

pastatriangles · 17/07/2023 20:25

'I HATE YOU. YOU'RE STUPID.'
-DS5

WhiteFire · 17/07/2023 20:26

He did once tell me that I'd ruined his life.

I took that as praise.

YallaYallaaa · 17/07/2023 20:28

Oh @StJulian2023 Im sorry to hear that. DSIL recently died and poor DBIL is getting lots of ‘why didn’t you die instead of mummy’ from his 5yo. It’s heartbreaking.

TicTac80 · 17/07/2023 20:28

When DD was 4.....

"I'm VERY disappointed of you!!!"

ladygindiva · 17/07/2023 20:29

My very fiesty three year old said in a temper once " I wish you'd fall in the road and get run over" 🤣 she was very dramatic . For context, I used to say " because I don't want you to fall in the road and get run over" when she demanded to know why she had to hold my hand.
