To think they shouldn't ban vapes?

I've just heard on the news that there is talk of banning vapes.

Vaping successfully got me and thousands of others off the cigarettes when all else failed. They're safer, cheaper, less offensive.

They say the fruity flavours entice children, well so do alcoholic drinks like WKD, fruit ciders etc. You don't see any bans on alcohol coming into play. Alcohol is a far more problematic 'vice' than vaping.

Adult vapers are not responsible for somebody else's child deciding to vape any more than a parent having a glass of wine of an evening is encouraging children to drink.

Why can't we move towards mass recycling them as opposed to an outright ban? I would happily recycle every one I use. Many would. Gladly. It's not just about the environmental issue though is it?

What happened to banning cigarettes? That never came to fruition did it, perhaps they should start there.

I disagree, I think they should be on prescription for people who need them to give up cigarettes.

Georgiesgirl · 15/07/2023 18:52

Isn't it just the disposable ones they're talking about banning

NowItsSpring · 15/07/2023 18:53

It's only the disposable vapes and totally support a ban.

LookItsMeAgain · 15/07/2023 18:54

They're not planning on banning all vapes, just the use once, really difficult (if it's even possible at all) to recycle vapes.

Hellocatshome · 15/07/2023 18:54

Ban the sale of them, have them on prescription only for those quitting smoking. There is no need for them to be sold in shops to anyone and everyone.

MohairTortoise · 15/07/2023 18:54

Banning them will just mean many of the smokers who migrated onto vapes will revert back to smoking cigarettes.
I know which I'd rather be subjected to in public spaces.

Runninghappy · 15/07/2023 18:54

It’s a terrible epidemic among children and they need to be banned.

Maddy70 · 15/07/2023 18:55

Disposible vapes are wasteful they aren't discussing banning the refillable ones

R3dSh035 · 15/07/2023 18:56

Disposable vapes absolutely need banning and all vapes should only be available on prescription.

My older teen Dd gets through 4 a day. She buys them online having become addicted a year ago. So, so many teens are doing this.Don’t get me started on the environmental impact.

Utterky weak government not sorting this out.

soundsys · 15/07/2023 18:56

Yeah it's just the single-use ones they're trying to ban. Along with lots of other single-use plastic things.

The refillable ones aren't the issue

ThinWomansBrain · 15/07/2023 18:56

it's the disposable ones that cause a problem, so yes, either ban them or impose a tax/levy that will contribute towards the cost of cleaning up & recycling.

RaininSummer · 15/07/2023 18:57

Awful things should be prescription only to pack up smoking.

R3dSh035 · 15/07/2023 18:58

They’re really easy to buy online, massive boxes of them. Primary school children are picking them up in parks, school fields. Highly converted flavours and packaging.

IglesiasPiggl · 15/07/2023 18:59

As someone who is sick to death of people chucking their discarded vapes onto my driveway, I would love to see a ban.

R3dSh035 · 15/07/2023 19:00

All of them should only be available online. The refill ones involve suspect bottles of liquid arriving through the post, batteries and still plastic. No teen should have access to them. Only prescription only will stop access.

GetInTheBinThenGetInTheSea · 15/07/2023 19:00

I definitely don't want them banned!

I have a reusable one but I need disposables as well. I can't always be fiddling around with filling up.

If they went on the nhs they would be rationing it to two pods a month

Simonjt · 15/07/2023 19:04

There is no need at all for disposable vapes, being too lazy to plug something in or to add some liquid isn’t an excuse to buy disposable ones.

R3dSh035 · 15/07/2023 19:04

Sorry not online, on prescription.

To the previous poster not wanting to fiddle around I think child welfare and the environment needs to take priority.

Would love prescription! Far cheaper too!

What are you doing as a parent?

op yabu. They do need banning.

R3dSh035 · 15/07/2023 19:06

On prescription they need to be dull flavours and non colourful packaging too.

StarchySturgess1 · 15/07/2023 19:06

Banning 'disposable' vapes that should never have existed in the first place? Absolutely yes.

Superdupes · 15/07/2023 19:07

I hope they get banned, so many kids at ds's school use them.
