To think they shouldn't ban vapes?

Vapes1 · 15/07/2023 18:49

I've just heard on the news that there is talk of banning vapes.

Vaping successfully got me and thousands of others off the cigarettes when all else failed. They're safer, cheaper, less offensive.

They say the fruity flavours entice children, well so do alcoholic drinks like WKD, fruit ciders etc. You don't see any bans on alcohol coming into play. Alcohol is a far more problematic 'vice' than vaping.

Adult vapers are not responsible for somebody else's child deciding to vape any more than a parent having a glass of wine of an evening is encouraging children to drink.

Why can't we move towards mass recycling them as opposed to an outright ban? I would happily recycle every one I use. Many would. Gladly. It's not just about the environmental issue though is it?

What happened to banning cigarettes? That never came to fruition did it, perhaps they should start there.

I think they're revolting things, and I can't stand the sickly sweet waft any more than I can bear the waft of a cigarette.

It's mind boggling that given how much we know about cancer that anyone would want this shit inside their lungs.

It's not about laziness.

The refillable ones leak into your bag / pocket and ruin clothes when they're bashed about in the process of waking. The refillable ones are bigger, clunky and heavy. They're not suitable for carrying around with you on your day to day comings and goings.

Would you want to carry a big flask of tea around with you all day and have that leak all over you?

Try the smok ones with pods. They don’t leak or need coils replaced, just tillable pods. The drawback is they don’t last long, one to three months and the batteries gone. But they’re only £25 or so and taste alot better than disposables

Disposable vapes absolutely need banning and all vapes should only be available on prescription.

My older teen Dd gets through 4 a day. She buys them online having become addicted a year ago. So, so many teens are doing this.Don’t get me started on the environmental impact.

Utterky weak government not sorting this out.

Utterly weak parenting maybe...

Jongleterre · 15/07/2023 19:20

Ban the disposable ones.

sweatybettii · 15/07/2023 19:22

I hate the disposable ones to be honest , I vape but use a rechargeable vape.
The disposables are really high strength nicotine aswell, and I hate that cold feeling they have on your throat

I have a fucking disability.

And yet you do own a refillable so you clearly can manage. Or someone does it for you.

I hope the disposable type get banned PDQ.

There's a time and a place for disposables, definitely. I wouldn't go to a festival or big event and take a reusable vape. Too much hassle and risk of losing it, or it can run out of battery, it can leak, it can get broken, it constantly needs filling back up, it takes up a lot of space if you're taking cables, power banks, spare juice, and coils/pods etc.

Not to mention that some of us have physical health issues and can't necessarily be doing that stuff, especially on the go.

I chuck a disposable in my pocket and a spare in my bag. I don't see the issue as long as I'm not throwing them in the bin.

Do you understand what it's like to have an issue using your hands? Clearly not, or you wouldn't be so incredibly rude and make ridiculous presumptions.

Make this the last time you tell someone with disabilities that they aren't trying hard enough, please.

Emmamoo89 · 15/07/2023 19:24

I hope they do get banned

bakewellbride · 15/07/2023 19:26

Vaping is awful, i wish it was all banned.

Is there a health issue from vape use?

I doubt sucking chemicals next to a battery is super healthy see this Lung study

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 15/07/2023 19:27

They should definitely ban disposable vapes. They're on the ground everywhere and it's disgusting seeing them discarded like that.

They've been heavily marketed towards children and there is no proper exit route for them. I can quite see how children have got hooked on them but they are dangerous, lithium ion batteries are not playthings and they are part of every vape. These batteries can and do explode.

They need to go on prescription for those who need them - and get children off them. I keep hearing about children who've never smoked a cigarette going to buy and get hooked on vapes instead. It's ridiculous and we need a government intervention now as parents are not capable.

Why vapes need to be unicorn coloured and cherry pie flavoured is all too clear - they're for children. Adults coming off cigarettes don't need this frippery.

Environmentally they are a disaster and the sooner they are heavily regulated or better still, banned, the better.

3WildOnes · 15/07/2023 19:28

There are loads of small reusable vaping pens, no bigger than the disposable ones.

StefanosHill · 15/07/2023 19:29

NowItsSpring · 15/07/2023 18:53

It's only the disposable vapes and totally support a ban.

Me too

You don't think adults like nice flavours?

And I have never seen any marketing for vapes, let alone aimed at children.

Don't make assumptions about me. Rheumatoid arthritis is indeed an issue with my hands.
Vaping and smoking is a filthy habit.

Your daughter must have quite a lot of money to be buying that quantity online. Do you even know what she's buying? Is it the proper stuff?

I would be terrified with the game of Russian roulette that your daughter is playing.

Then why on earth are you telling me to hurt myself trying to refill a vape?! Or ask a stranger to do it for me??

Jesus Christ.

No far from it. I’m a very proactive and attentive parent.

My daughter has never smoked a cigarette and doesn’t drink to access. She has had a shit 3 years and wanted to fit in. They are so easy to get hold of and she’s now addicted and in charge of her own money.

It could happen to anyone. Even your child.

R3dSh035 · 15/07/2023 19:36

Excess

R3dSh035 · 15/07/2023 19:38

Nope no idea. Yes it’s terrifying. So many are doing it. It’s why they’re littering the parks and parks everywhere .

OneTC · 15/07/2023 19:38

I fully believe in the benefits of vaping but would ban the disposables in a flash

I have a disability and can’t buy almost all coats and jackets as the zipper is on the wrong side. I’d love if even some were possible but can’t make that a commercial prospect for retailers for the tiny minority I represent.

Such big decisions can’t just be based on those of us that may find things physically harder. Disposable vapes are very bad for the planet and attractive to children so on balance I’d be for a ban. Maybe they could be on prescription. Yes that might quitting more tedious for disabled people (unless all vapes on prescription) but things can’t always be completely adjusted.

This is not true at all. Buy a decent refillable vape that is not one of those that produces a huge cloud of ‘smoke’ and they’re a perfectly reasonable size, don’t carry it upside down, and you’re absolutely fine.
