Colleague reported me to RSPCA

Not sure what to do with this one…..
I work for a big company and have been taking my dog to work with me
this week as my usual dog
walker is away. We’re in north Scotland so It’s not hot, I leave all the car windows open 1/3 way and come out hourly to check on her, offer water and a wee and walk her in my lunch hour.
oddly (to me) yesterday a colleague from a different department I don’t know at all was standing by
my car when I came for one the checks-
she told me she was reporting me for leaving my dog in the car all day, that I was an idiot and that I should be ashamed. I was so shocked I didn’t say anything, and today Found a note on my windscreen at the end of the day from RSPCA to say they’d had a welfare call about a dog locked in the car, they’d come and found her calm with windows open and had a chat with her thru the open window (?!) and were satisfied she was well cared for and NFA.

do I just leave it at that? Or try and find the name of the women who reported me and complain on basis of her being so rude? It all just seems so odd.

So, you still haven't replied to me (but everyone else it seems} . . .

What are you plans for if your dog sitter is ill for 2 weeks in a row - or even longer? What are your plans if the afternoon suddenly gets warmer?

I wish I could write a Haiku to summarise this mad thread! Anyone got any Haiku talent, wants to sun it up? It's 5 syllables, then 7, then 5 right? Here is my (awful) first attempt ...

The O P was mad
She left her dog in the car
She said it was fine

wobblymum1 · 13/07/2023 23:59

Nope, but it’s strange to be verbally
abusive to a
colleague in a work setting
(whole
point of my post)

I expect she was horrified when she saw that you were keeping your dog locked up all day in your car.
That's probably why she reprimanded you and called you an idiot - which is a mild rebuke and not an abusive term at all.

NameChange245 · 14/07/2023 00:03

Sorry, dont have my glasses, so a few typos ... 😉🐶

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 14/07/2023 00:03

We all work really hard actually and I’ve never had anyone call me an idiot or be abusive before, hence my wondering if I should take it further with HR as it was really unprofessional.

HR will not give a shit.

spir1t · 14/07/2023 00:03

OP, if this is real you should be ashamed. How dare you leave a dog in a car. I don't care if you're checking every hour. I would report you and I'm sure you'll be reported tomorrow. Disgusting.

Oh I’m so sorry I missed
your question - my dog walker Has already said in light
of short notice
to her clients this week that her
dog walker friend will take her dog walks and vice Versa if she hurts her foot again. Or is ill. Unlikely as
its
first time in years but I appreciate the offer

I have contacted the SSPCA to ask them to clarify their advice on dogs left i cars.

it seems odd that an animal welfare officer would condone and almost encourage this behaviour. But it does need clarified.

Scabber · 14/07/2023 00:04

Has anyone seen texts from dog on twitter? I can't unsee it now. This is actually a reverse and we are in fact chatting to the dog 🐕

PoseyFlump · 14/07/2023 00:04

What is the fucking point of this thread? You're not interested that the majority don't agree. And should you even be driving a car if you're half blind 😂

Not as cruel as encouraging other people to think leaving a dog in a car is okay.

In a normal week; is the dog not at home, dog walkers takes them out then drops them home?
How on earth is having the whole house to roam about in cruel and left in the car is ok in your mind?
Have you lost the ability to make rational decisions?
I'm sorry to say it but you're a halfwit.

My old neighbours left their dog at home all day and it howled all day. After they left the dog in the garden on a very hot day with no shade I contacted the SPCA. They were not concerned sadly and just told me to monitor the situation.

I think that there's lots of horrible treatment of pets that isn't actually illegal and people then think it's OK.

It's worrying that OP now thinks it's totally fine to leave the dog in the car as the welfare officer was happy with it. I understand them saying it's not ideal but not illegal/unsafe but being happy with it is odd

Your 'welfare officer' is full of shit. Hopefully you'll get reported again and the next one will have their head screwed on.

Either the welfare officer was an idiot or this very strange OP isn’t telling us the full truth.

I wonder which it is🫣
