Colleague reported me to RSPCA

Not sure what to do with this one…..
I work for a big company and have been taking my dog to work with me
this week as my usual dog
walker is away. We’re in north Scotland so It’s not hot, I leave all the car windows open 1/3 way and come out hourly to check on her, offer water and a wee and walk her in my lunch hour.
oddly (to me) yesterday a colleague from a different department I don’t know at all was standing by
my car when I came for one the checks-
she told me she was reporting me for leaving my dog in the car all day, that I was an idiot and that I should be ashamed. I was so shocked I didn’t say anything, and today Found a note on my windscreen at the end of the day from RSPCA to say they’d had a welfare call about a dog locked in the car, they’d come and found her calm with windows open and had a chat with her thru the open window (?!) and were satisfied she was well cared for and NFA.

do I just leave it at that? Or try and find the name of the women who reported me and complain on basis of her being so rude? It all just seems so odd.

Your colleague was correct.

I'm on your side OP. You did the best for your dog in the emergency situation of your walker not being available. Sounds like your dog was fine - you know what's best for them given their temperement etc - my dog would hate kennels. But your colleague just sounds concerned and I wouldn't say anything.

what you love to see constant bullying ? Not a nice person

🤣🤣it's not bullying! The OP was laughing too, had laugh emoji's in her post and talked about needing to write in Haiku!!

I've worked with lots of visually impaired people, and "having to shut one eye" because of reading glasses doesn't ever seem to have been a presentation! Nor does having to write in Haiku because you've shut one eye!!!!

I tried shutting one eye to type this post, strangely enough, it hasn't led me to start writing Hailu style!!

I've already said to OP, that if they r genuine then I don't want to hurt their feelings, that I feel sad for them and their backstory, and they should step away from the thread. I mean that. However, I find this thread and the one eyed haiku writer a little hard to believe 😉

You need a back up dog walker for when your regular one is sick or on holiday.

Presumably your car is smaller than your flat so I don't get the logic of the flat being too small at all.

Some clown brought a wolf to my workplace. It got out of the car and it took the whole maintenance department to get it back in again. Then it wouldn't let the clown in to the car when it was time to leave. We left them to get on with it. Taking your pets to work is not always a good idea at all unless work have a pet run which my work did put in to deal with any future wolf situations.

I also find the fact that OP can't put one piece of paper on top of another (and they apparently work in an office) quite hard to believe.

I also can't quite believe that half the company leave their dogs in the car all day too! Like a little doggy day care in the car park. I wonder if the dogs all chat to each other through the car windows 🐶

I think OP knows their dog better than anyone posting on this thread, so it's totally immaterial that various posters' dogs do not like being left in a car.

While it's not ideal to leave a dog in a car, the RSPCA officer who checked on the dog found nothing wrong, so there's no reason for anyone on here to be castigating the OP.

OP - while the person who reported the dog had overstepped the mark, they did so out of genuine concern for your dog. Personally, I would just leave it.

tigger1001 · 14/07/2023 08:17

You were in the wrong. Be glad your colleague didn't phone the police, as that's what is advised to do. They would break the window to get the dog out. And likely charge you. Especially if you told them you were planning to do that for a week!

Your colleague was looking out for the welfare of your dog. That's hardly odd behaviour.

JudgeRinderonTinder · 14/07/2023 08:17

The comprehension skills on here are shocking. OP
did not say colleague was still standing by her car when the welfare officer came; she said colleague shouted abuse and then reported her later on, so I’m unsure why several posters are using this to prove that OP is fake.

I think what you did OP was slightly risky, you said during the hourly checks you checked the temp of the car. What would you have done in the event the car was too hot on one of your checks?

I do think though some posts are very dramatic, I can see that you’ve tried to do what you thought was for the best, don’t think I’d go as far as to say you’re an animal abuser or vile etc; it’s a bit OTT! You know your dog and there wasn’t malicious intent or any obvious stupidity given the fact you left food and water, open windows and checked regularly.

Maybe not the most ideal scenario but I don’t judge you as a bad person for it.

tigger1001 · 14/07/2023 08:29

"We all work really hard actually and I’ve never had anyone call me an idiot or be abusive before, hence my wondering if I should take it further with HR as it was really unprofessional. "

Seriously?? You are in Scotland you say? And you think "idiot" is abusive??

You were beyond an idiot and as you still see nothing wrong with your behaviour you can can cruel on to that too.

It's pretty sad that your colleague cares more for your dog than you do. And I would be pretty surprised if they don't mention how cruel it is to your hr and ask them to get you to stop it.

If you can make up all this time at home, why couldn't you work from home?
