Colleague reported me to RSPCA

Not sure what to do with this one…..
I work for a big company and have been taking my dog to work with me
this week as my usual dog
walker is away. We’re in north Scotland so It’s not hot, I leave all the car windows open 1/3 way and come out hourly to check on her, offer water and a wee and walk her in my lunch hour.
oddly (to me) yesterday a colleague from a different department I don’t know at all was standing by
my car when I came for one the checks-
she told me she was reporting me for leaving my dog in the car all day, that I was an idiot and that I should be ashamed. I was so shocked I didn’t say anything, and today Found a note on my windscreen at the end of the day from RSPCA to say they’d had a welfare call about a dog locked in the car, they’d come and found her calm with windows open and had a chat with her thru the open window (?!) and were satisfied she was well cared for and NFA.

do I just leave it at that? Or try and find the name of the women who reported me and complain on basis of her being so rude? It all just seems so odd.

if you really have no other option it would be best to take half day annual leaves for the week so that you can care for your dog. I would have reported it too.

YourNameGoesHere · 13/07/2023 22:16

Other than feeling very sorry for your dog my first two thoughts were. The RSPCA don't operate in Scotland and it doesn't sound like you're getting much work done.

WildUnchartedWaters · 13/07/2023 22:14

The woman wasnt to know that you were coming our and checking. She did the right thing.

I did laugh at 'had a chat with '

But no. I wouldn't draw attention to it, that would make everything worse.

I know, had a chat with made me
laugh too 😂
i don’t want
to blow it up at work as found her oddly aggressive from the start calling me an idiot and standing by my
car, and despite her
seeing me give her a drink and cuddles
and a walk went onto report me…but also don’t want to just ignore it 🤷‍♀️it’s just so odd.

But for what? I know lots of people who take their dog in vans to work and walk them between jobs, it’s not against the law and the welfare
officer said she was well cared
for
and calm and would be taking no further action?

Honestly you know loads of grim people then.
Leaving an animal in a car all day, daily for a week is miserable.

WaspLady · 13/07/2023 22:17

It’s better than leaving a dog crated most of the day which loads of people do even though we all know they shouldn’t! Your dog got plenty of checks some exercise and it wasn’t hot! My dogs love being in the car and settle there really well if I have to leave them there for any reason.

KrisAkabusi · 13/07/2023 22:18

wobblymum1 · 13/07/2023 22:13

can I ask you to explain why? I’m genuinely confused
as she’s well cared for, it’s a one off
week of coming to work with me and staying in the car where
she
is cool and calm and has hourly
cuddles from me and an hour walk at lunchtime, even the welfare
officer said she was calm and all ok- so with how rude she was I don’t see how she is being the only sensible one?

And how was she supposed to know that? She saw a dog locked in a car, possibly several times this week.

Scabber · 13/07/2023 22:18

There's no RSPCA in Scotland

Iamgoingtohell · 13/07/2023 22:19

Why would you just not leave your dog at home and go home at lunchtime to walk it?

CrotchetyQuaver · 13/07/2023 22:19

I'd make a copy of the note to have ready for the next time you bump into this woman. If the RSPCA are happy with what they found then everything's fine.
I have done the same as you when I've needed to, our dogs are very content with this arrangement. Particularly the bonus walks that come from it. Sometimes it's unavoidable.

Emdubz · 13/07/2023 22:19

Even with the windows down partially the car can get really hot inside in warm weather especially with no breeze.

FedUpWithEverything123 · 13/07/2023 22:19

You think it's ok to leave a dog in a car all day? You're sick OP! Well done to your colleague

A sensible option would be to find another dog Walker for that week. You don't leave a dog in a car for so many hours and think it's okay!

Sorry SSPCA. But the note says RSPCA/
SSPCA. Just put RSPCA as wasn’t sure how many on here would know Scotland specific abbreviation.
A 5
min hourly break to see her I make up for at the end of the day when home (40 mins total) and I’m entitled to my hour lunch break which I use to walk her so my work is fine, but thank you!

Your story's growing arms and legs.

JudgeRudy · 13/07/2023 22:20

I know l'm missing the point here but what sort of job do you have where you're able to check on your dog every hour? You must be gone at least 15mins.

RSPCA happy and it’s not illegal? So again am still confused! If I called them for every dog here I saw in a
car with windows down in shade I’d get little else doneB

Flowerblooms · 13/07/2023 22:21

Are your work colleagues/manager happy that you disappear every hour to check on the dog while they are paying you? You must be missing a chunk of the day walking back and forth to the car park and spending time taking it to the toilet or cuddling it.

You should have taken leave or found a boarding kennel for your dog, it should not be locked in the car.

WildUnchartedWaters · 13/07/2023 22:21

Can we stop with the theres no RSPCA? We have an equivalent service, we arent completely feral.

noglow · 13/07/2023 22:22

They reported you as they were concerned. The RSPCA weren't concerned. End of. Would you rather no one reported anything they were concerned about and animals and even humans died?

TenOhSeven · 13/07/2023 22:22

To all those saying the RSPCA don't operate in Scotland, come on. You know full well what the OP means and if she'd written SSPCA then there would have been many posts saying, don't you mean the RSPCA, what is the SSPCA etc etc.

Well the SSPCA said it was fine so in what way is OP "sick"?

I'm still not understanding why the dog cant be at home.

I bet her colleagues are thrilled.
