This is already in the public domain .

I see a lot of negative comments about police and some of it , rightly so.

But this sums up for me what the job is about .
And why normal everyday men and women , like me , join the police service .

The bravery shown here is commendable .

Thanks for taking the time to watch .

Ok but the institution is still massively corrupt, racist, misogynistic.

PaigeMatthews · 12/07/2023 20:45

Is this so we ignore all the misogyny and rape?

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 12/07/2023 20:45

Well done to all....it's a tough job

The bad apples aside you all do a fab job

Brefugee · 12/07/2023 20:46

meh. They know what they're signing up for.
Now, how are they going to root out all the bad apples?

Talapia · 12/07/2023 20:49

The police need higher entry requirements. Still too many sexist/racist/homophobic yobs.

Greenshake · 12/07/2023 20:49

@baggiesmalls I am with you on this, but you won’t get much reasoned debate on here.

CaribbeanCupcake · 12/07/2023 20:49

These comments are ridiculous! You have bad apples in every walk of life.

These guys are hero's. Not all officers are rapist/ misogynistic etc. Some actually join the force because they want to help people.

People love to hate the police but who do/ will they call next time they are in danger?

You would never do the job yourself so you can't say this video isn't to be commended

Florissante · 12/07/2023 20:49

Very brave men. I salute them.

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 12/07/2023 20:50

The vast majority should not have their career belittled because of those few though

And you all know that. You just love to pour scorn

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/07/2023 20:51

I've worked in housing for 30 years. Workers I've know have gone through every single thing in that video. Ditto nurses, paramedics and some fire fighters. Social workers, shit even Council employees.

It's rough, it's traumatising, it's dangerous and people in those jobs are brave.

In only one of those professions have I seen widespread accepted misogyny, racism, domestic violence one of the highest rates, and this will to forgive terrible behaviour because of the rigours of the job. I don't know what selection, training and support is missing. I do know it is missing.

Men? Did you miss the female officer entirely?

baggiesmalls · 12/07/2023 20:53

Those officers put out a fire the suspect had started in the children's bedroom , saved ia woman in her burning house holding two tiny children while her ex partner held a knife to her throat and got stabbed themselves in the process .

Police do put themselves in extremely dangerous situations to protect the public .

The starting salary is 24k

I hear a lot of bad press . I never hear this type of story however in the media , so just showing the reality .

The video is worth a watch .

Sure, I wouldn't want to pick up the pieces of violent crimes and car crashes like the police have to do................but does that excuse all the bad things they do? And the cover ups?

Similarly, does being a BBC presenter and entertaining/reading an autocue to millions give a person a licence to do some of the things that they seem to like to do?

It reminds me of the fact that my mum's dad beat his wife and kids, but people shrugged it off as "I'm sure it's nothing and he's a pillar of the community, so..."

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 12/07/2023 20:56

What's YOUR job/profession then??

Bet it has its own set of bad apples too.....

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 12/07/2023 20:57

Shall we slate that too....?

CrocodileOenophile · 12/07/2023 20:57

Brefugee · 12/07/2023 20:46

Would you rather they didn't sign up?

LakeTiticaca · 12/07/2023 20:58

So none of you naysayers will call the police when a maniac is holding a knife to your throat then?

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/07/2023 20:59

Thing is there are bad apples everywhere. But the number and influence in the police is higher and worse. If someone sent the kind of messages and emails around my workplace that are regularly sent amongst police, they would be fired. Really, actually. People wouldn't join in FFS.

LakeTiticaca · 12/07/2023 20:58

I call the police all the time. I called them twice yesterday. I work in a profession where we deal with violent abuse constantly. I have really wonderful working relationships (and a couple of personal ones) with police officers.

I also think the profession is rotten at the moment and the police officers I know and like agree.

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 12/07/2023 21:01

You don't know that @MrsTerryPratchett

So how many in the countries police force have behaved this way then? Can we see the stats?

DdraigGoch · 12/07/2023 21:02

Greenshake · 12/07/2023 20:49

Indeed

powershowerforanhour · 12/07/2023 21:03

"meh. They know what they're signing up for."

Well it's a good job some people keep signing up for it so the rest of us don't have to. Cos somebody has to.

Same, supported accommodation and seen things like this daily.

There are 150,000 police officers in the UK. Do you really think that even most of them are doing this?

albapunk · 12/07/2023 21:06

Some of these responses remind me of the responses to my line of work...

There are many, many amazing Police officers from all walks of life, who do their best in with the state of the Police Forces in general. There are bad apples and those who abuse their power. There are higher ups who allow it. But the majority know and recognise this and try their best to be the best they can in their role. We all still call them in a time of need.

I'm a senior care assistant. Many many people, even on Mumsnet imply we are mostly shit at our job and it's a role for lazy and uneducated people who simply don't care, yet they give us their family members and loved ones to look after.
