This is already in the public domain .

I see a lot of negative comments about police and some of it , rightly so.

But this sums up for me what the job is about .
And why normal everyday men and women , like me , join the police service .

The bravery shown here is commendable .

Thanks for taking the time to watch .

All I can say , is my experience has mostly been positive , I work in a progressive force , with a as many women as men .

We have a female chef constable who is committed to ensuring fairness and that her officers uphold the principles of the service .

I've seen 2 "bad apples " get the sack in 15 years . They really don't seem to last long in our force if they are of a disposition not in keeping with the principles , honesty and integrity is core .

Please don't tar every police officer and every force with the mets brush .

@baggiesmalls 👏👏👏 you are doing a great job. Thank you.

Those slagging off the police, are you going to hesitate phoning these racist, homophobic pigs if you are in trouble? I thought not.

Dumbphone · 12/07/2023 21:14

Police saved my life numerous times I will never forget

Is this so we ignore all the misogyny and rape?

And false accusation and persecution (personal experience)?

Yes actually I will never contact them again afterwards they did to me and my family when we were targeted because of DS disability.

So stuff that patronising attitude somewhere dark and moist.

@Leastsaidsoonestscrewed what an eloquent response.

WeAllKnowHeWillGetAwayWithIt · 12/07/2023 21:17

Surely it's the same in every industry and job type. There'll always be good and bad eggs.

I had to report a SA recently, and whilst the officers who are dealing with my case have been nothing but amazing, it came at a time as one officer from that station was being sacked due to the disgusting and misogynistic way they handled a different report of a similar crime.

The majority of men are nice normal human beings, unfortunately we still live in a society where there are still too many men who think women owe them sexual gratification, it really doesn't matter what job they do. And it certainly shouldn't take away from the hard work others do within the same industry.

DoristheDuchess · 12/07/2023 21:20

Of the police officers I've known:

One was a serial domestic abuser of his wife, who only left when he threw her down the stairs. She knew there was no point reporting it because it was clear he would be covered by his mates.

One was a senior police officer who was dismissed for corruption and so went abroad to work as a contractor.

The other was involved in the arrest and wrongful prosecution of a man for rape. They misled led the guy into fully cooperating with them, didn't suggest he needed legal representation at any point and told him if he just agreed and gave his side it would all be cleared up. He was convicted and sent to prison, never allowed to live in the same house as his kids again. How do I know he was innocent? the victim told everyone afterwards it was consensual, that she was just lying and had been encouraged along. She was laughing about how stupid it all was. Did the police know? yes, they were made aware she'd changed her story but refused to take any action and pushed the case through.

I'm now teaching both my kids never, ever speak to the police without a solicitor present. Ever.

A video will not change my own experiences or that of many people.

baggiesmalls · 12/07/2023 21:20

I just want people to watch the video . It's from body worn video .

@Leastsaidsoonestscrewed what an eloquent response.

If this is supposed to be winning sarcasm, have I some news for you. But you obviously don't want hear it. They nearly ruined my family and utterly failed to protect us so you can also stuff it.

Greenshake · 12/07/2023 21:24

@Leastsaidsoonestscrewed I am happy to listen to anything you want to say if you can say it in a mature fashion.

KvotheTheBloodless · 12/07/2023 21:24

I think most officers are probably decent enough people.

However - there are far too many standing by whilst other officers make blatantly racist, homophobic and misogynistic comments, and far too many who turn a blind eye to behaviour that in any other profession would lead to dismissal. There is a thread of rottenness that runs through every force, an unacceptable culture of permissive attitudes to rotten behaviour.

Culture change is hard, and requires everyone within the organisation to acknowledge that there is a problem in our police forces, and commit to tackling it. That doesn't mean we start saying that all coppers are wrong'uns, but it does mean we can no longer pretend that 'it's only the Met/West Midlands/whoever' and admit that it's a systemic issue.

Pancakefam · 12/07/2023 21:25

LakeTiticaca · 12/07/2023 20:58

So none of you naysayers will call the police when a maniac is holding a knife to your throat then?

I don't think you've thought this question through!

I've met enough rotten police to wonder how all of the so called good apples stay and put up with them in good conscience.

@baggiesmalls I am with you on this, but you won’t get much reasoned debate on here.

Agree.

rubbish. If you really needed help, your child had been kidnapped, someone broke into your house with a knife, you would phone the police. It’s cool to hate the police till you need them

Leastsaidsoonestscrewed · 12/07/2023 21:29

@Greenshake
yes, how dare we be blazingly angry. How "immature" of me.
50+ incidents of anti disability hate crime including repeated assaults on a teenager with asd. 0 response.
1 incident of two kids throwing stones. Complaint. 1 prosecution of the complainant. MH breakdown.
Happy now? Mature enough for you?

DoristheDuchess · 12/07/2023 21:30

MichelleScarn · 12/07/2023 21:27

Agree.

Why do you so readily dismiss real experiences people have had with the police?

Surely that's not a reasoned debate either, not to even listen to the very real experiences of others because it doesn't support your own views

There are many people in this country who genuinely deeply mistrust the police for very good reasons. Dismissing their views won't solve the problems.

I did need them. Read my next comment and tell me it's rubbish.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 12/07/2023 21:31

Thank you for your service. Must be a tough time to be on the force. I have worked really closely with the police at different times in my career, and although I can understand some of the scandals, I know the vast vast majority of officers and ready to do stuff like this.

Just to be clear, at no point did any of us even come close to breaking the law. Some people are very good liars.

Leastsaidsoonestscrewed · 12/07/2023 21:33

@DoristheDuchess

Because it's easier and more comfortable to pretend. As with so many things.

Greenshake · 12/07/2023 21:33

@Leastsaidsoonestscrewed nobody has said you are a liar. Equally, nobody knows the ins and outs of your situation. That said, you are not presenting yourself very well on here, which was my original point.

Leastsaidsoonestscrewed · 12/07/2023 21:35

MichelleScarn · 12/07/2023 21:27

Agree.

Translation: anyone with a bad experience needs to shut up and go away so you don't have to feel uncomfortable. I expect that's nice for you.
