Hi we took our 3 month old puppy to get his nails cut today, our puppy was on a lead & other dog (Collie) was on an extendable lead with his owner. When we walked in the Collie barked in our puppies face making him cry & run away. So should the owner of the Collie of said sorry? Should we have said anything to owner (we didn’t as we didn’t want to cause a scene over a dog barking making our puppy scared).

OP posts:

Your puppy cried? Get over yourself. I say this as a very experienced owner. You are being ridiculous.
Dogs bark at each other, dogs rough and tumble making unholy noises, they eat each others shit, they hump each other back front and sideways. Dogs are brilliant and noisy and dirty ( even the fluffy ones).

This is the most snowflake thing I've ever read on here.

😂😂😂

I'm not sure you should have a dog tbh. Do you have children?

Dunnoburt · 12/07/2023 20:43

I'm calling fake 🤣🤣🤣🤣

TheBellsToll · 12/07/2023 20:43

The OP would reply but it’s bath and story time for the dog 😂

It is YOUR job to protect your puppy from scary experiences.

Lesson 1 - other dog owners might well be dickheads and other dogs might also be dickheads.

Next time you walk into a vets or groomers, pick your puppy up if you can and carry them in, or open the door and find out whats in there, guide your puppy away from whoever else is in there and pair high value treats with the experience of simply being there, seeing stuff (do not, as I see many people do, wait until the puppy shows fear/anxiety, to use the treats!).

Should they have said sorry, should they have not permitted their dog to get in the face of a puppy (if that is what they did...) of course, but thats not the important point here is it? Focus on what is important, pairing experiences with positive reinforcers and avoiding unpleasant experiences wherever possible.

If I was sitting in a reception area and my dog barked at and scared a puppy, I would definitely apologise 🤷🏽‍♀️

Why wouldn't you?

Azandme · 12/07/2023 20:55

We took our ten week old kitten to the vet on Monday. Whilst we were in the waiting room with about five dogs, one of them barked and set them all off.

It was like the beginning of 101 Dalmatians.

I didn't panic for my kitten, say anything, or worry she was upset. I shrugged and smiled. Dogs are gonna dog.

Kitten jumped, but was fine. Obviously.

Gilmorehill · 12/07/2023 20:55

Seeing this post today just reminds that there are so many dog owners these days who really don’t have the first clue and just want something cute. I had an encounter with such a person yesterday. I had to bite my tongue when he pushed my dog’s head because apparently she was taking too long to sniff his dog 🙄. I didn’t want to get into a confrontation with someone I might see every day on my dog walk but those kind of people really annoy me.

Sorry but…

tommyhoundmum · 12/07/2023 21:08

This is upsetting when your puppy is such a baby. In my neck of the woods the owner of the barker would have apologised and made a fuss of your puppy and firmly told off her dog. It's not good that an older dog barks at a young puppy. Hardly fear aggression. Just my opinion.

Dear god please please learn about dogs
Go to training do the practice and don't end up one of the dog owners so many posts are about

SlashBeef · 12/07/2023 21:11

What?! 💀

21ZIGGY · 12/07/2023 21:12

Do you want the dog owner to say sorry to you or your puppy?? 🤣

Buttons232 · 12/07/2023 21:18

Part of job as puppy parents is to expose your puppy to as many other dogs and different experiences as you can. Dogs will bark. Your puppy will learn to deal with it. If they’re not given those opportunities it’ll screw them up good and proper and you’ll end up with a poorly socialised dog with a bunch of behavioural issues.

Baconisdelicious · 12/07/2023 21:19

Bloody hell.

shieldmaiden7 · 12/07/2023 21:21

🤦🏻‍♀️

Newmum110 · 12/07/2023 21:21

No you should not HAVE said anything

Atethehalloweenchocs · 12/07/2023 21:22

OP, I get that there is a big difference between the ways dog can bark at each other and no owner should let their dog get right in your puppies face unless you say it is ok. I hate extendable leads, it means that you dont really have good control over your dog unless it is in the locked position.

Actually it's more controllable in the extended position if it isn't locked because it naturally recoils as you call your dog to you or you can hoik it in using the mechanism. If it's locked you end up grabbing at a tangle of lead. They are perfectly safe if (big if) you use them properly. Obviously lock it when the lead is short.

Now I of heard it all.

Absolutely.

It’s not good dog manners to allow them to do this.
