Hi we took our 3 month old puppy to get his nails cut today, our puppy was on a lead & other dog (Collie) was on an extendable lead with his owner. When we walked in the Collie barked in our puppies face making him cry & run away. So should the owner of the Collie of said sorry? Should we have said anything to owner (we didn’t as we didn’t want to cause a scene over a dog barking making our puppy scared).

Doggone cheek of it

Winner!

gemstoneju · 12/07/2023 19:53

Oh honestly! Collies are like that, they try to herd cats. Your puppy will not be scarred for life, believe me. The owner was a bit off, should have said sorry out of politeness, but what harm was done?

CandyLeBonBon · 12/07/2023 19:54

Of what op?

LakieLady · 12/07/2023 19:55

Pmsl!

Being told off by other dogs is how puppies learn canine boundaries and how to have good "dog manners". They need to learn this stuff as possible. (This is why it's all important to socialise them with other dogs from the earliest opportunity, and to introduce them to other things they're likely to encounter, eg bin lorries, kids on bikes, traffic, trains etc.)

I've raised 3 dogs from puppyhood, they've all been barked at by other dogs from the day their vaccinations were effective, and they've all been fine. Actually, more than fine in the case of my lakeland bitch pup - she stood her ground and barked back at the Rhodesian ridgeback that had the audacity to bark at her. She was tiny at the time, and the RR was most taken aback.

I suggest you buy yourself a book on how to raise puppies, OP, and read it. There are far too many dogs around who haven't been properly socialised or trained. You don't want to be "that" dog owner.

I hope its hooman will stop all its treats and ban any screen time for at least the week, or until it apologises. That will make it think about what it has done.

kayserah · 12/07/2023 19:57

No need for any apology. Have you arranged any dog classes? Would be good to start getting him socialised with other dogs

@Wolfiefan hadn't been when I was studying my PhD. And wild dogs were only part of the study. Baboons were amazing.

Tour PhD sounds so interesting, was it focused on animal ranking?

Threenow · 12/07/2023 19:58

I'm sorry, but you seem to know nothing at all about dogs, and I have to question whether you should actually have one.

BillieShears · 12/07/2023 19:58

😂

CampsieGlamper · 12/07/2023 19:59

Puppy or pussy?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/07/2023 20:02

PFD (precious first dog syndrome)

BMW6 · 12/07/2023 20:02

Christ Almighty 🙄🙄

Munchyseeds2 · 12/07/2023 20:02

I am assuming it's your first dog??

GoldDuster · 12/07/2023 20:02

Drop your shoulders, your puppy is going to be ok. You're in for a bit of a shock if this is where you're at so a course of Puppy classes would be good for both of you, and time for some research about dog behaviour, better late than never.

azlazee1 · 12/07/2023 20:04

If my dog barked at anyone or anyone's pet I would absolutely apologize. It is an act of aggression and I'm sure you were uncomfortable seeing your dog upset. To not say sorry is just rude.

AmaraTamara · 12/07/2023 20:05

Thank you for making me laugh today. 😂

You do realise your dog and the other arent toddlers in a playground right?

Dinopawus · 12/07/2023 20:08

ellyoctober · 12/07/2023 19:05

Anyone else guessing that the puppy is one of those very pampered indulged breeds? Sitting in a personalised velvet cushion with ribbons adorning its fur?

And not doing enough road work to wear its nails down.

🤣🤣🤣 Id of found that really funny

Don't encourage the 'of' shite, please...

NowItsLikeSnowAtTheBeach · 12/07/2023 20:11

So.

First dog?

dawngreen · 12/07/2023 20:13

It would have been polite to not let a bigger dog that close to a small pup. Just make sure your dog has a bit of distance from noisy dogs in future.

You'd find it funny that your dog was scared & upset??

Emotionalfuckwit · 12/07/2023 20:17

No, obviously they're rubbing it in about the 'of'.
