Dog barked at our puppy today making him cry 😢 should we of said anything to owner

Hi we took our 3 month old puppy to get his nails cut today, our puppy was on a lead & other dog (Collie) was on an extendable lead with his owner. When we walked in the Collie barked in our puppies face making him cry & run away. So should the owner of the Collie of said sorry? Should we have said anything to owner (we didn’t as we didn’t want to cause a scene over a dog barking making our puppy scared).

For the sake of your dog please start treating it like a dog. Dogs bark to communicate. Puppies are annoying to older dogs, the collie will have been teaching your puppy his place in the pecking order. It’s good for teaching dogs manners.

Barking is one of the ways dogs communicate with each other. Your puppy probably got too close to the collie for his liking so he told them to back off. Or maybe collie was just excited? That is another reason why dogs can bark. It is not worth saying anything to other dogs though. Puppies need to learn to socialize with other dogs.

Well, I think it's lovely you think like that, op. Mine is quite placid but can get fed up when others plague him. I always explain to him what he's doing right or wrong. I think he understands. If he'd barked at a little puppy, I'd have said that's not how we behave.
I think that's why he's so placid and easy-going. Because he digests what I tell him. 😄

@Treehouse00 a puppy shouldn’t need a nail trim. And if it does much less stressful to learn to do it yourself. FB group nail maintenance for dogs is good.

In an ideal world, the barking dog would send your puppy an 'I'm sorry' card, maybe send some flowers or treats to really show his remorse but dogs these days just don't seem to understand proper etiquette.
