Dog barked at our puppy today making him cry 😢 should we of said anything to owner

Hi we took our 3 month old puppy to get his nails cut today, our puppy was on a lead & other dog (Collie) was on an extendable lead with his owner. When we walked in the Collie barked in our puppies face making him cry & run away. So should the owner of the Collie of said sorry? Should we have said anything to owner (we didn’t as we didn’t want to cause a scene over a dog barking making our puppy scared).

Sorry, your puppy is too young to a)need it's nails cut and b) go near another dog as it won't be fully vaccinated yet.

3. other dogs will bark at them
4. you don’t ask other dog owners for an apology if their dog barks at yours.
5. you don’t need to apologise if your dog barks at another dog, or person, or bird, or bike.

@Treehouse00 please go to dog socialisation classes so you can learn how dogs interact. You’ll end up with a nervous dog with no social skills.

@Wolfiefan hadn't been when I was studying my PhD. And wild dogs were only part of the study. Baboons were amazing.

@Zarataralara even the person who came up with the theory now admits they got it wrong!

The only thing that would have annoyed me is the dog being on an extendable lead in the vets/dog groomers running up to other dogs. It should have been on a normal short lead. Barking is what dogs do. Your puppy will get used to it.

Why did you put your puppy in a position to have another dog in his face? With mine, I didn’t allow other on lead dogs to approach until I’d ascertained that it was safe.

Firstly, I have never seen a puppy cry - whimper yes. You need to toughen up. I know it’s hard as you feel protective when they’re so young.

Please don't be that ignorant person that picks their dog up when a 'bigger' dog passed by.

Your puppy needs to socialise and mix with all kinds of dogs and temperaments.
