Dog barked at our puppy today making him cry 😢 should we of said anything to owner

Hi we took our 3 month old puppy to get his nails cut today, our puppy was on a lead & other dog (Collie) was on an extendable lead with his owner. When we walked in the Collie barked in our puppies face making him cry & run away. So should the owner of the Collie of said sorry? Should we have said anything to owner (we didn’t as we didn’t want to cause a scene over a dog barking making our puppy scared).

OP posts:

Gettingbysomehow · 12/07/2023 19:30

I had to apologise to my neighbour once when my cat went over the fence and terrorised her dog.

Redglitter · 12/07/2023 19:30

Just when you think you've read it all.....

ActDottie · 12/07/2023 19:32

Lol this can’t be a serious post. Dogs bark at each other it happens.

Feellikeafailure45 · 12/07/2023 19:33

Have not of

MsPrism · 12/07/2023 19:33

You are getting a hard time on here OP, if I were you I would take your pup back to the vets during their quiet periods, to build up some positive experiences. Go in, sit down, give a treat, sniff around - if possible - come out again.
If I had been the older collie owner, I would have apologised if my dog has frightened your pup, and most of the dog owners I know would have done the same.
For future reference I would post this kind of thing on 'the doghouse' board.

@Jongleterre

I was that person who sometimes picked my dog up when a bigger (or smaller) dog went past. Not because I was worried about what the bigger dog would do, more because I was worried about what my dog would do. She loved people but she did NOT like other dogs. And there wasn't an opponent she thought that she couldn't beat, not matter what size they were. She only came up to my knees but she would have challenged King Kong to a fight if he pissed her off.

What exactly would you have said to the owner?

Yeah, I kind of want to know too

What do you think you should have said to the other dogs owner?

"Excuse me. Your dog upset my dog and made him cry. You owe my puppy an apology:

erikbloodaxe · 12/07/2023 19:38

No the owners didn't need to apologise but the collie should have been made to apologise and then lose his screen time for the next week.

It looks worse than it is, try not to worry - let dogs be dogs. We have a rottweiler/ bull mastiff x, and when we got our second dog (keeshond) some of the tellings off from our old girl looked awful. Fast forward three months and the kees spends her life hanging off the others ears and having a good play fight back. Best buds now. They just need to establish boundaries / work out their limits.

mintlily · 12/07/2023 19:39

It's a puppy not a baby

WhatInFreshHell · 12/07/2023 19:40

Lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol 😂 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Definitely one of those pampered made up breeds...I'm betting it's called a BorderCockaLabSharOoodle or something similarly stupid.
Fuck sake OP...dogs bark, get over it
I'm actually laughing my head off 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

LakeTiticaca · 12/07/2023 19:40

Absolutely amazing. Is this how soft people are now?
It's a dog, they bark.

pigsDOfly · 12/07/2023 19:44

I would have apologised if my dog barked in a small puppies face, not that she's likely to as she tends to ignore most other dogs.

It probably gave your puppy a bit of scare OP but puppy will be fine.

Can't possibly imagine what you would have said to the owner of the other dog though. As pps have said, dogs bark at one another.

My dog, who isn't very big, was attacked by a cat a few weeks ago in the park. Gave her quite a shock as the cat wouldn't let it go and just kept following us and throwing 'punches' at my poor dog.

We kept walking and the cat got bored eventually and wandered off. Needless to say my dog has suffered no trauma from the incident even though she did scream quite loudly at one point.

scoopoftheday · 12/07/2023 19:44

LOL

HTH

Somethingsnappy · 12/07/2023 19:45

I wonder what it was that the mean dog said to your pup? Dammit, I wish I could speak Woof.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 12/07/2023 19:46

😂😂😂

Is this a joke post??

If you're actually being serious, then I fear you've not done any enough research into puppies/dogs behaviour before committing to getting a dog.

Without meaning to be harsh, you need to get a grip.

Laauren · 12/07/2023 19:47

You've never owned a dog before have you...

ARareKindaBear · 12/07/2023 19:48
