Pls help me find where to buy humane meat

Orchidgal · 08/07/2023 19:15

I am looking for meat which is raised under highest standards of animal welfare: free-range obviously, and killed on the farm to avoid the stress of transportation to an abattoir.
Ideally in Wales as that’s where I live, but keen to hear of places further afield if they have a website and can purchase online.
Can anyone suggest anywhere?

I just love the nastiness to vegetarian or vegan practices, why? It's our choice. But I suppose saying about shitting glass etc... shows the level of intelligence on those who mock.

Calm down 🤣

I will, with chilli made from an ex dairy cow from down the road.

Humane? They don't sing them to death. Or hug them to the after life.

After looking at it objectively I think the "halal" way, where they are stunned before being killed is the most humane way but yet people have a serious issue with halal meat?!!!!!

You’ve got this the wrong way round. Halal meat is usually unstunned - the animal is killed while fully conscious. Normal ( non- halal and non-kosher) butchery requires the animal to be stunned.

KnickerlessParsons · 08/07/2023 22:54

Pawleygirl · 08/07/2023 19:38

I'm from another country, but I would look up any places that specify halal or kosher. Those should be the most humane places, and they would kill their animals humanely as well.

I don't think halal is much kinder to the animals. They just bleed to death.

Royalbloo · 08/07/2023 22:55

At least they stun them first.

No! Halal meat is usually unstunned! It’s ritual slaughter, that’s the whole point of it, it’s not governed by animal welfare but by ancient ritual.

It’s ordinary meat that’s always been stunned. And only a very small percentage of halal meat.

I don't really get why people float about eating meat? I eat meat but this comes across badly... not sure what the word is

Royalbloo · 08/07/2023 23:01

If you butcher normal meat you only need to lull them. For it to be halal they usually stub them first and then kill them.

If anyone is THAT worried about how they die, pease remember that they die all the same, regardless of which parts of the Quran are recited over them.

If you hate it, stop eating them. It's pretty simple if you don't want them to die for human consumption.

If you don't mind then dying that's also cool, but look at how they die. Lots of "non-halal' animals are killed by a bolt through the head, which I would recommend you DO NOT google.

I just stopped eating meat. I don't like any of it to be honest. But it's up to us all to make our own decisions.

It's bad to choose higher welfare meat now? I am tired of vegans coming onto these kind of threads, if I wanted not to eat meat I wouldn't. Why discourage people from choosing local high welfare meat?

Because you're sticking a plaster over a decapitated head.

Vegans are sick of people trying to gloss over their appalling entitlement to animals' lives merely for a few minutes' of taste. We are sick of the "welfare" tag, because no slaughter is humane, and you just sound stupid pretending you believe there is.

Argh, I promised myself that I wouldn’t engage in any arguments about this (as I knew there inevitably would be some) but I just feel I have to point out how massively counterproductive your argument is!! Such black-and-white binary thinking!

Can you not see that the whole of humanity is not going to suddenly turn Vegan tomorrow?

Can you not see that any change takes time and that baby steps in the right direction will get us there in the end?

Do you not think, given that people will still be buying and eating chickens and cows next week and next year (like it or not), that it is preferable for those animals to be well-cared for before they are slaughtered, rather than experience lives of abject pain and misery?

Baby steps, EmeraldFox, baby steps!!! If you care about animal welfare you should be supportive of high welfare farming, alongside your Vegan ministrations.

And now I am going to bed.

No such thing. They all die horrific deaths desperately fighting for their lives 🙄

Zipps · 09/07/2023 00:26

Halal meat is definitely not humane.

You've listed the two most inhumane meat.

Maybe contact local, smallholders and ask them where their meat is slaughtered.
We had an accidental litter of piglets (a pig we'd rehomed was pregnant and we weren't told). They live in woodlands, free to do what they like, snuffle all the bulbs and walnuts from the tree, all bundle in together despite having multiple arcs to choose from!
When we had to get some slaughtered, I researched so hard to find a small place. I'm vegetarian and knew that I needed to make it as calm as possible. There aren't many small abbatoirs but I found one that isn't commercial or have hundreds a day. It was the best I could do with a situation I really didn't want to be in. As a smallholding, we love these animals and I never had any intention of having to do this so worked hard to do best by them.

Why didn't you send them to a sanctuary? I'm surprised as a vegetarian that you would choose to have pigs slaughtered? You rehomed a pig, was this a pet? I can't imagine killing my pet's accidental litter.

HowcanIhelp123 · 09/07/2023 00:50

Why not go to your local farm shop? They will have locally sourced meat, usually treat animals well, minimal environmental impact from transport.

Sometimes free range isn't a 'thing' because farmers get ordered to bring animals in for their own welfare if there is reason to (e.g. bird flu outbreak). Doesn't mean they're treated badly indoors.

First of all, I'm allergic to pretty much all vegan sources of protein. Nuts and legumes (lentils, pulses, beans). I literally cannot have a balanced diet without meat products. Theres very few meat substitutes I can eat (even many of the wheat, mushroom or pea protein ones use chickpea water as a binding agent). I medically cannot be a vegan.

Second of all, animal uses in industries including farming is highly regulated with lots of rules. They're treated better and receive better healthcare than lots of pets.

paellabella · 09/07/2023 00:58

How did you humanely kill an animal to eat it?

ALL plants are sources of protein.

You can be vegan. You don't want to.

Lol, pets aren't slaughtered for food. They are treated far better than live STOCK. LIVING creatures referred to as stock. Think on.

Cuddled it with a knife, I think. So kind and humane.

Nipna and Calf at Foot Dairy are two farms I buy meat from and follow them on social media.
