Pls help me find where to buy humane meat

I am looking for meat which is raised under highest standards of animal welfare: free-range obviously, and killed on the farm to avoid the stress of transportation to an abattoir.
Ideally in Wales as that’s where I live, but keen to hear of places further afield if they have a website and can purchase online.
Can anyone suggest anywhere?

There's no such thing as humane meat. The animals are just as dead regardless.

This. If you really cared you would go vegan or at least vegetarian.

I'd rather shit glass in to my hand and clap than become vegan/veggie 😘😘

If only you would bbz!

GreekDogRescue · 08/07/2023 20:03

I’d like to find a diary farm that keeps cows and calves together longer.
footage of cows chasing their calves being taken away is just horrific.

There is no such thing as humane meant. If you are so concerned about animal welfare, why not stop eating meat? Better ethically and environmentally.

I wouldn't eat meant either 🤢. A bit of ethically killed venison is nice though.

Best place to find humanely-raised meat with low food miles is at your local butcher or farm shop. We are serious carnivores in our house, and our pork comes from a farm about 15 miles away, and beef comes from a friend's farm. Eggs come from another friend, and chicken comes from the local butcher. It costs more than cheapo meat from Morrisons....but it tastes better and my conscience is clearer.

Why is it a ridiculous suggestion to consider stopping eating meat if you're concerned about animal welfare? It seems perfectly logical to me.
If you really believe that your hankering for a burger or a steak or whatever is mor important than another being's life being forcefully taken away from it, then fair enough.
It just seems insane to me that billions of animals are brought into existence for the sole purpose of killing them soon after, when humans don't actually need meat to survive. Each to their own, though 🤔

In the vegan section

Don't be silly, there is no meat in the vegan section. Plenty of good vegan food but anything resembling meat is upf junk food.

So how do we control non native invasive species?

The OP isn't asking about non native invasive species but about killing animals so they can be eaten.

I'm not saying animals shouldn't be culled to control numbers, preferably in a way that causes them the least distress, but I'm not sure killing things can ever be done in a humane way.

Dead is dead. The animal will suffer some degree of fear and pain regardless of how that's achieved.

It must be a really lonely life to hate nature and wildlife so much.

After all nature and food webs are about kill or be killed, suffering, parasitic invasion, disease, evolutionary arms race and eating other species. 🤔

Talkingtothetrees · 08/07/2023 20:13

OP get your meat from local farm shops where you can see the animals and they have lots of space and a good life.

I'm not certain but I think Halal is actually the opposite as I think they slit the throats alive and allow them to bleed to death.

We buy game from these people https://www.wildmeat.co.uk/
The owner was on Radio 4’s Gap Finders recently.

I came to share this too! The radio 4 interview is linked on their website. It sounded really good.

Yes they are they are asking about humane meat, venison and much of wild game are invasive species such as deer that are controlled and sold as meat.

If you want to quote me in the future get you facts straight.

Stroud Micro Dairy does/did. Though it's currently in financial difficulty so they have stopped milking until next spring as a stop-gap plan.

But I also agree with other posters that although they can be treated better in life... slaughter is slaughter...

Deer.

Only two deer are native, Red deer (Cervus elaphus) and Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus).

Other deer in UK are Fallow deer which were almost certainly introduced by the Normans while three Asiatic species, Reeves' muntjac, Chinese water deer and sika arrived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

List of invasive non-native (alien) animals

Check this list to find out which animals are widely and non-widely spread, and when they were listed:

Widely spreadCommon name Scientific name When it was listed
Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis 3 August 2016
Egyptian goose Alopochen aegyptiacus 2 August 2017
Grey squirrel Sciurus carolinensis 3 August 2016
Muntjac deer Muntiacus reevesi 3 August 2016 (already mentioned.
Signal crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus 3 August 2016
Terrapins - all subspecies including red-eared slider, yellow-bellied slider, Cumberland slider and common slider Trachemys scripta 3 August 2016

Do they need 'managing' ? Since wolves were exterminated from UK some animals have no natural enemies.
