Is this normal? 🤔 (cleaning)

AIBU to spend upwards of an hour and a half cleaning the bathroom every week?

I'm very particular with how I go about it.
Disposable gloves for cleaning the toilet, no harsh chemicals, different cloths for different areas etc.

Just finished a big clean. Started with the windows and windowsill, removed cobwebs, polished anything chrome, hoovered the floor, cleaned toilet inside and out, then sink (including pedestal), bath, shower and all tiles, antibact door handles, wiped skirting boards and radiator, dusted ornaments, rinsed shampoo bottles etc, buffed mirror and finished by mopping floor.

YABU - That's too much
YANBU - Yes, I do the same or more

xx

I wish I could be bothered to do ours to that standard every week!

Spirallingdownwards · 08/07/2023 18:18

I didn't vote. I spend less time on mine but it is okay to do what you want.

Floralnomad · 08/07/2023 18:18

I clean my bathrooms most days , I can’t imagine how bad they’d look if I left them a week .

Xrays · 08/07/2023 18:18

It takes me about 20/30 mins to do ours and I pretty much do all of that. I just work fast!

araiwa · 08/07/2023 18:20

As long as you don't complain about how long it takes you, then do what you like

Blossomandbee · 08/07/2023 18:22

Yanbu, you do what suits your needs. I do small daily cleans then a deeper clean once a week. I also have more than one bathroom so it probably adds up to more than that time wise.

WonderfulUsername · 08/07/2023 18:22

Who gives a shit apart from you OP? Genuine question Confused

People do things differently.

BiscuitsandPuffin · 08/07/2023 18:22

IDK what you find to do that builds up that much in a week and takes that long. Mine's done in 20 minutes. Do you have an enormous bathroom?

HippeePrincess · 08/07/2023 18:23

That’s way over the top every week!

NoIfsOrButsOrCoconuts · 08/07/2023 18:23

I do a proper clean twice a week -floors, toilets, shower, basin, window sills, mirrors.
I draw the line at washing shampoo bottles.
I don’t have ornaments for the very reason that they are dust catchers & would need cleaning.
No skirting boards though & no way am I doing the windows that often.

BCBird · 08/07/2023 18:23

Stopped reading after 90m.of life spent on cleaning a bathroom. 😬not for me

viques · 08/07/2023 18:24

I would remove ornaments for a start, no need in a bathroom! Dust and germ catchers, smells are particulate so every poo in the toilet is a few more poo particles on your ornaments.

Bert2e · 08/07/2023 18:24

You'd never get a job in hotel housekeeping! Are you so obsessive in other areas of cleaning? Life's too short for me but whatever makes you happy and if it doesn't it's time for a chat with a professional.

Ginmonkeyagain · 08/07/2023 18:25

There's just two of us and we are out a lot so I give the bathroom a proper clean once a week and every day I spay the shower screen, bath and sink with shower spray and give the floor a quick mop.

We have a rim block for the toilet that seems to keep it fresh. But both adults are good at ensuring the toilet is left clean for the other. I imagine it might be different with children and teens.

MaryJean87 · 08/07/2023 18:25

I clean the toilet and sink once a day and clean the bath about twice a week. It only takes a few minutes. We have one bathroom between 2 adults and 4 kids so it gets minging. Once a week I'll spend about half an hour cleaning it properly.

Mischance · 08/07/2023 18:27

Ah .... thinks ..... when did I last clean the bathroom......? Can't remember.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 08/07/2023 18:27

I’m just trying to balance “no harsh chemicals” and disposable gloves…

VyeBrator · 08/07/2023 18:28

I think hell would freeze over before a bloke started an internet thread like this.

What's going through your mind OP, that you decided to list out every little detail of how you clean a room?

You sound a bit like my friend's mum who was raised to think cleaning and also talking about her cleaning, somehow made her a more 'worthy' person or something.

You do you.

CornishTiger · 08/07/2023 18:32

Hoovered the floor. Is it carpeted? Blergh

yellowsmileyface · 08/07/2023 18:32

I do about the same but once a month.

I clean the toilet and sink weekly, but only do a big clean (shower, floor, etc) monthly.

TerfIngOnTheBeach · 08/07/2023 18:34

I clean mine every day, quick wipe over everywhere and spray and rinse the shower screen and walls. Its never dirty as a result.

just come back from a SC Villa and the bathrooms weren’t cleaned the whole week we were there as we were on holiday. I coUld have deep cleaned all three in 1.5 hours.

Nordicrain · 08/07/2023 18:35

I don’t know how you manage to spend 1.5 hrs on those things unless there’s a massive drip feed and you are Kim kardashian and therefore have a bathroom the size of my house.

but anyway, i wouldn’t choose to spend my time that way, so to me yabu.

DappledThings · 08/07/2023 18:38

I just cleaned the bathroom and the en suite. Took me about 45 minutes and was the first time in about 3 weeks. So it would be way too much for me but if that's what you want to do then crack on. Why does it matter what anyone else does?

Wronwron · 08/07/2023 18:39

Thanks all, it looks like I am BU but mostly due to the time it takes. Today was only a rough estimate as I had to keep stopping to do other stuff then go back to it.

To answer some questions - I'd say it's medium sized and there's also another one + small loo, tiles not carpeted, I may genuinely have OCD, no I don't competitively clean, the gloves are a barrier to germs and yes I should probably ditch the ornaments!

I doubt it. I hoover before mopping the hard floors. Otherwise you just get fluff swiped around.
