Is this normal? 🤔 (cleaning)

AIBU to spend upwards of an hour and a half cleaning the bathroom every week?

I'm very particular with how I go about it.
Disposable gloves for cleaning the toilet, no harsh chemicals, different cloths for different areas etc.

Just finished a big clean. Started with the windows and windowsill, removed cobwebs, polished anything chrome, hoovered the floor, cleaned toilet inside and out, then sink (including pedestal), bath, shower and all tiles, antibact door handles, wiped skirting boards and radiator, dusted ornaments, rinsed shampoo bottles etc, buffed mirror and finished by mopping floor.

YABU - That's too much
YANBU - Yes, I do the same or more

xx

YABVU

I clean my bathroom occasionally, bits and bobs each week (one week floor, one week shower etc. Not all at once. A thorough clean (eg. skirting boards, towel rail, window sill, tiles etc every 6 months or so.

Snugglemonkey · 08/07/2023 23:21

We have a cleaner who does a full clean weekly. The ensuite does not get that much else, really. I just give the basin and taps a wipe each evening and stick toilet cleaner down every few days. The family bathroom needs more as my son sometimes misses 😔, so I clean around the toilet a lot! Downstairs gets the same.

Do what you like. It's not OCD unless there's an anxiety base to it.

Oh dear, I hadn't thought it could be reassurance seeking behaviour.

To answer the other post, I'm not happy letting other people do the job and can get pretty upset if smelly cleaning agents have been used. Someone tried to help out recently and I caught them rinsing the toilet brush out in the sink. Had to lie down in a darkened room after that one.

Of course you did. I thought everyone had to lie in a darkened room due to a toilet brush. Stick it in the dishwasher and you will really need a lie down.

three bathrooms on this house. cleaned all three today in one hour. cleaner comes every second week and takes same amount cleaning them. I do a deep clean about evey two months similar to what you describe. wouldn't have the time energy to do it every week. Like someone said bathroom is clean and no one dies.

What do you do in that 20 mins (per bathroom) please?

I really hope nobody does that IRL!!

I thought toilet brushes were verboten on MN? 😆

Wash and wipe down sink toilet and bath. bath only in one room. clean mirro and maybe window. scrub showere doors. (though use a squidgy and shower spray after every shower so it's not bad ) hoover and mop floor. bung all the towels mats into wash. then on deep clean time I do all that but scrub the grout clean out the grooves in the shower try joining the door. give radiator a good scrub and sometimes need to soak the shower heads etc in limescale remover

Ps. I always recommend my clients use a squeegee on a daily basis, to keep bathrooms from getting mouldy and limescaley. And then leave shower cubicle doors OPEN.

That one simple tool, used after the last person has used the shower that day, will prevent bathrooms from needing a deep clean.

And if you have the inclination, a quick wipe over with microfiber cloth to dry off any remaining water left on taps, shower controls and screens.

It's water being left behind that causes moulds, bacteria breeding and limescale etching into materials such as glass and chrome.

Get rid of excess water each day by spending 1-2 mins with a squeegee and a cloth, and your bathroom is perfectly fine.

Everyone in our house, including the DCs do at least a squeegee down of the shower screen. It takes seconds to do, but saves hours of scrubbing in the long term.

My husband does this every day. And dries the shower off and empties the remaining water from the shower hose. I hate showering after him as I have to do it! Hence always having the first shower

Stunningly unreasonable. Life Life's way too short to waste so much time on unnecessary cleaning. Ditch the cleaning stuff & go out and have some fun!

I wonder how many men clean anythingbathrooms this often or thoroughly... It's a bit depressing, frankly.

I wish there was a Like button for this.
It is depressing how many women seem to measure their self-worth by how much cleaning they do.... meanwhile life is passing them by!

boboshmobo · 09/07/2023 13:58

I have 4 bathrooms , I clean them all once a week and it's about 2 hours in total weekly .. I use different cloths and wash them all after ..

I move quickly though 🤷‍♀️🤣

JudgeAnderson · 09/07/2023 14:09

Apologies if I've missed it, and maybe there are some men posting, but I'm getting a strong impression that scrubbing bogs is still very much women's work.

Hoovered the floor. Is it carpeted? Blergh

I vacuum my tiled bathroom floor, to get up all of my hair that has inevitably fallen out all over it, before I mop it.

Orangello · 09/07/2023 14:39

I hoover all my floors, they are either tiled or laminate. You're not supposed to?

Cracklecrack · 09/07/2023 14:41

Yanbu it’s too much for me but you do you x

Fairislefandango · 09/07/2023 14:55

Why on earth would you think that only carpet can be hoovered? Confused I hoover all of my house and I don't have any carpet at all!

pigsDOfly · 10/07/2023 14:55

Hoovered the floor, Is it carpeted? Blergh

I also hoover all my hard floors.

A hoover picks up all the dust, a broom just pushes it around from place to place.

Snowpaw · 10/07/2023 15:32

I definitely don't spend that long.

  1. Gather up all DD's bath toys and put in the basket
  2. Throw out any rubbish or empty bottles
  3. Clean the bath out with Cif and rinse.
  4. Clean the shower out with Cif and rinse. I don't bother doing all the tiles just the shower tray and unclog any hair from drain.
  5. Clean the sink and wipe down the drawers underneath.
  6. Clean the toilet and leave bleach in it.
  7. Clean the floor round the loo properly on hands and knees and a whizz round the rest of the floor with a mop.

I don't polish any taps. We don't have a mirror. Windowsills meh - if they are filthy I'd do it but on a day to day basis they aren't.

Lissi99 · 10/07/2023 16:26

I had to vote yabu because of how you worded the vote and I definitely don’t spend anything like that doing my bathroom but I think if that’s what it takes for you to feel comfortable and happy then it’s reasonable for you. We all have different standards. Mine gets a lick and a promise once a week
