Is this normal? 🤔 (cleaning)

AIBU to spend upwards of an hour and a half cleaning the bathroom every week?

I'm very particular with how I go about it.
Disposable gloves for cleaning the toilet, no harsh chemicals, different cloths for different areas etc.

Just finished a big clean. Started with the windows and windowsill, removed cobwebs, polished anything chrome, hoovered the floor, cleaned toilet inside and out, then sink (including pedestal), bath, shower and all tiles, antibact door handles, wiped skirting boards and radiator, dusted ornaments, rinsed shampoo bottles etc, buffed mirror and finished by mopping floor.

YABU - That's too much
YANBU - Yes, I do the same or more

xx

Why not just spend three minutes each day wiping every surface and put some bleach in the loo? Then your bathroom would look nice all the time rather than either being very clean for a couple of days and then a bit grubby for the rest of the week.

StarchySturgess1 · 08/07/2023 19:47

I've neither the time nor the inclination. If it makes you happy though then crack on.

StarchySturgess1 · 08/07/2023 19:48

Hang on. Ornaments? In your bathroom? YABU.

Wronwron · 08/07/2023 19:48

@Catusrusty I have seen the steam cleaners - was thinking of getting a hand held one too but they seem quite expensive.

Your ignorance is showing. You must think no gypsy women work?

Not at all. Tbh it wouldn't remotely have occurred to me to think that gypsy women didn't work. My comment was based on what you said that you do, not your comment about gypsy women. I just thought it unlikely that anyone who did such excessive cleaning would have time for a full-time job!

I'm getting rid! It's not just dust they collect apparently...

@Fairislefandango so because I clean my bathroom daily, I must spend all day doing that and I have no time for anything else whatsoever? Okay then.

I could but it's a big house (not humble brag) and I'm hopeless at sticking to a routine.

I only clean my bathrooms that thoroughly about twice a year.

Otherwise they get about 10 mins once a week.

Hollyppp · 08/07/2023 19:54

i clean ours (2 en suites, a family bathroom and a downstairs loo) every week or every 2 weeks. Each room gets about 15-20 mins max!

pellegrina · 08/07/2023 19:55

Question: ornaments in the bathroom?

pigsDOfly · 08/07/2023 19:59

Why on earth are you cleaning windows every week?

And how many cobwebs can a bathroom collect over a week.

Sounds like you're making an awful lot of extra work for yourself.

But tbh it really doesn't matter what anyone on here thinks.

Personally, there's no way I would spend 1.5 hours a week cleaning one bathroom, which is one of the smaller rooms in my house, but if that's the way you clean your bathroom then for you it's normal.

Question: ornaments in the bathroom?

Shells, statue of Venus, porcelain ducks, candles, pot plants, wooden anchor, mermaid tail, r e l a x sign...that sort of thing.

I just did all that in 2 large bathrooms as the cleaner is ill - but no way would it take 1.5 hours per one. How?

My bathroom is small. Very small. I do the same every week. But maybe I am not as meticulous. This takes me 45 mins tops

ImGonnaHaveToTurnMyBackOnYou · 08/07/2023 20:01

I YANBU'd but I don't do it - I just think its perfectly reasonable - and also, if this is how you prefer to, its your choice.

bumblebee2235 · 08/07/2023 20:01

@VisionsOfSplendour bit mean.. didn't know you could snipe over cleaning habits. Yes I know what scrub means.. yes I scrub a lot.. no it's not fun... yes I have a problem.. happy?

rigamortiz · 08/07/2023 20:02

Not normal to me but I wish I had the oomph to do that. If you don't mind the time and effort, why stop?

adriftabroad · 08/07/2023 20:02

3 mintes a day. 10 minutes once a week. MAX. You sound ridiculous to me, but I sound ridiculous to you.

Blarn · 08/07/2023 20:05

If you are doing that every week, it shouldn't take an hour and a half, nothing should be that unclean.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 08/07/2023 20:06

What happens if you can’t do that?
Would you cancel plans to clean?

We all know that a Scrub is a guy who thinks he's fly. And is also known as a busta.

It takes me about 20/30 mins to do ours and I pretty much do all of that. I just work fast!

Same.

Showdogworkingdog · 08/07/2023 20:17

I’m in the minority and do the same with mine but in my defence I’ve just had a lovely new bathroom after living with a leaky, grotty one for years, it cost a fortune and so I want it to stay looking nice.
usually about five minutes after finishing, someone splatters pee on the seat, but at least it’s clean for a few minutes every week
