To not go to A&E again?

Went to A&E on Thursday night after collapsing at home and then again in A&E, spent eight hours on a drip and sent home as bloods were normal. They said thought had a gastric bug as was +++ vomiting and fever.

Have been to A&E five times since the start of April with similar episodes of collapsing. Each time it’s been put down to panic/dissociative attacks. Which would sort of make sense as my MH isn’t great.

I’ve also however had diarrhea for well over a year. Had a normal colonoscopy end of Feb 22 and told its probably stress/IBS.

Went to the toilet this morning, and again twice this afternoon - heavy rectal bleeding. Toilet bowl bright red. Didn’t even notice I was bleeding until I stood up. I’ve had spotting before but never bleeding like that. Wasn’t when I was opening my bowels - was just having a wee - but the bleeding is definitely coming from the back. Felt a bit sick/giddy standing up.

111 have said to go to A&E again.

I’m mortified at the thought of going back there again, I feel like they must be thinking I’m an hypochondriac now - a couple of the nurses have said, ‘oooh, back again’ etc and have said no, the bleeding feels like it’s external, it’s bright red. There is a fair bit but it’s worse when I sit down on the toilet which makes me feel it’s something on the outside that’s splitting? It’s not so bad when I just sit still. It’s not pouring or anything.

I’ve managed to persuade 111 to get an out of hours GP to call me instead rather than spending another night in casualty, was that stupid? A&E is 5 mins in a taxi, I just don’t want them to think I’m being a hypochondriac when it’s probably only piles!

Do many people collapse and vomit a lot with anxiety, enough to visit A and E multiple times? Sounds like it needs a lot more investigation, especially with the new symptoms. Agree endo should be considered. A lovely friend of mine was also dismissed with anxiety when it was something else. It's very common for women, unfortunately (and of course some things like heart pain often are anxiety but they still need to be properly checked out!)

I don't know if this is helpful or not but my dad was pouring blood and ignored it. He had some blood tests at the GP who got a call about the results and sent an ambulance
He ended up having 2 blood transfusions because he had lost so much blood but it turned out to be something totally benign and he was fine

Highdaysandholidays1 · 08/07/2023 22:29

Plus, if you are ill, weak, exhausted and not listened to, your mental health will not be at its best. Hope you get somewhere OP.

Cocolapew · 08/07/2023 22:33

Hope you get sorted op 💐
DH had internal piles that burst, there was so much blood pouring from him I had to mop the floor with a bathtowel. A&E tied them for him.

BlackFlyChardonnay · 08/07/2023 22:34

I'm so glad you did seek treatment and that they're taking it seriously this time. Best of luck

Justaddalittlespice · 08/07/2023 22:50

Honestly don't worry about them asking about family history of bowel cancer they ask everyone that

Marchbug · 08/07/2023 22:51

Good luck op, feel better soon

Zarataralara · 08/07/2023 22:55

They keep asking about family history of bowel cancers which has panicked me a bit.

Drs have been asking me that for at least 20 years. I have IBS and diverticulitis and am sensitive to lots of different foods, causes lots of problems but various cameras say no real problems. It’s standard questions, don’t worry about it.
Hope you can sleep and you get sorted out.

fuckmyuteruslining · 08/07/2023 22:56

Agree re asking about cancer. They start with that and work it out from there.

Dita73 · 08/07/2023 22:57

I really hope you’re alright x

Polkadotpjs · 08/07/2023 22:59

Glad youre being seen. Good luck.

PinkStarAtNight · 08/07/2023 23:12

Whenever I've been to a GP or A&E about anything they've always asked about family history of various cancers, ita probably just a standard question they ask. Whatever it turns out to be, just remember you are in the right place now. As others have said, make sure you mention the endo and keep pushing them - don't let them palm you off and send you home with no answers. Get across to them how much this is affecting your life and that you really do need a solution.

The NHS can be wonderful but unfortunately these days due to how much they are struggling financially, you really do need to push push push to get any help. Be polite but firm, make sure they cover all bases and get some answers and plan for you. Best of luck Flowers

Weenurse · 08/07/2023 23:16

I hope they find the source of the bleeding soon

Didicat · 08/07/2023 23:24

Batshitcrazy007 · 08/07/2023 23:29

Fingers crossed they get you sorted xx

TiredyMcTired · 08/07/2023 23:33

Could be a fissure or ruptured pile. If you haven’t got diarrhoea or pain then I doubt it’s Ulcerative Colitis or Crohns. Hopefully they will sort it all out for you soon!💐

neilyoungismyhero · 08/07/2023 23:44

It seems to me at times it takes far too long to actually get into the system but once you're in things seem to progress OK. I hope this is how it will be for you.

snapple21 · 08/07/2023 23:45
