To not go to A&E again?

reallydontwantaande · 08/07/2023 17:14

Went to A&E on Thursday night after collapsing at home and then again in A&E, spent eight hours on a drip and sent home as bloods were normal. They said thought had a gastric bug as was +++ vomiting and fever.

Have been to A&E five times since the start of April with similar episodes of collapsing. Each time it’s been put down to panic/dissociative attacks. Which would sort of make sense as my MH isn’t great.

I’ve also however had diarrhea for well over a year. Had a normal colonoscopy end of Feb 22 and told its probably stress/IBS.

Went to the toilet this morning, and again twice this afternoon - heavy rectal bleeding. Toilet bowl bright red. Didn’t even notice I was bleeding until I stood up. I’ve had spotting before but never bleeding like that. Wasn’t when I was opening my bowels - was just having a wee - but the bleeding is definitely coming from the back. Felt a bit sick/giddy standing up.

111 have said to go to A&E again.

I’m mortified at the thought of going back there again, I feel like they must be thinking I’m an hypochondriac now - a couple of the nurses have said, ‘oooh, back again’ etc and have said no, the bleeding feels like it’s external, it’s bright red. There is a fair bit but it’s worse when I sit down on the toilet which makes me feel it’s something on the outside that’s splitting? It’s not so bad when I just sit still. It’s not pouring or anything.

I’ve managed to persuade 111 to get an out of hours GP to call me instead rather than spending another night in casualty, was that stupid? A&E is 5 mins in a taxi, I just don’t want them to think I’m being a hypochondriac when it’s probably only piles!

Good to hear you are getting the right treatment and attention at last OP! I would definitely put in a complaint when back home and feeling better. Its so frustrating that this wasn't picked up on and looked into sooner, how awful for you. As for your family, they should be there to support you not tell you that you're just messing around. Tell them that you have now been admitted and all the tests you've had/everything the doctors have now said. It's pretty clear that you're not just being a hypochondriac.

Try get some rest and relax a bit, you are on the right track now. Good luck Flowers

You poor love, get well soon Flowers

Have spoken to family and my uni (I’m a student) who are being v v supportive, hugely. Just wish they weren’t so far away. Uni are obv closer so said someone will probably try to come in to see me tomorrow.

Doctors have been round and said something about haemoglobin or something along that lines, said it’s 131 or something, and they want me to stay in today, get repeat bloods, get bladder checked and regular pain relief. Shattered doesn’t cover it. Managed a shower and a ‘hot roll’ for breakfast. Only in Glasgow.

Bloody hell, all that urine. Im guessing you hadn't felt that because you hadn't mentioned it upthread.
I wonder why? You'd think you would be in agony with needing a wee.

reallydontwantaande · 09/07/2023 19:58

Oh trust me once it hit a litre I felt it, was hanging onto bed rails crying with it once it hit a litre.

For some reason I assumed you were older, you poor thing, family far away. Absolutely this should have been picked up sooner and treated sooner, this is totally not ok and not anxiety! Hope they get to the bottom of everything, it sounds like there's a lot going on.

Mirabai · 09/07/2023 20:15

Do they know why you’re retaining urine?

whataballbag · 09/07/2023 20:27

Oh OP. How're you feeling now? I hope they get to the bottom of it soon

vipersnest1 · 09/07/2023 20:28

@ADHDDDDDDDBOOM, it's possibly not to know in the early stages. I had urine retention and by the time it was treated, my bladder had two litres in it. I have nerve damage due to it. I knew I needed a wee, but in the early stage could manage a small amount. Later, I couldn't sit or stand still due to a horrible urge - by that point I could feel my bladder as it had come up out of my pelvis.

Completely different. I once got pints mixed up with litres and downed a litre of water before baby scan rather than a pint (baby brain is real, I'm normally pretty smart, I promise!) I was in agony with a litre in me, I can't imagine how you must have been feeling with three litres, you poor thing! I hope they get you sorted asap and you get some answers!

Do they know why you’re retaining urine?

I’ve got a urethral stricture/stenosis and bladder has nerve damage - hadn’t been seen by urology since 2020 despite being told in 2019 I would need a yearly dilation. They said last night probably get another one soon. Catheter’s bloody sore, nurse was in at midnight thinking I was getting bladder spasms or something. Just been given dihydrocodeine again so hopefully that does something said if not can have morphine and anti sickness.

My aunty’s coming in today hopefully, so that’s good/looking forward to a hug!

My daughter was in hospital and her uni (York) were really supportive, as were her flat mates. Don’t be afraid to reach out, people love helping and most will be happy to bring in stuff for you.

I’m glad your aunt is able to come in and give you a hug and I’m glad they are finally taking your symptoms seriously.

Raspberri · 10/07/2023 08:54

I'm glad you're finally being treated properly. Please don't let them fob you off because you're young or make you feel like you're wasting their time. This happens so much with the NHS. You really do need to advocate for yourself and make sure they get to the bottom of things.

reallydontwantaande · 10/07/2023 10:34

Getting kept in tonight as well. Can’t get up without 2 nurses and needing a CT scan too.

Augend23 · 10/07/2023 10:52

What a pain! But better that they keep you in til they work out what's the matter than that you end up on someone's waiting list I think?

I'm really pleased they're taking it seriously.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 10/07/2023 10:55

So glad you went back in, glad your auntie is coming as well.

RhosynBach · 10/07/2023 12:53

I’m glad they’re giving you a scan op and hope they find out what the issue is soon so you can be on the mend. Sounds awful

justasking111 · 10/07/2023 13:06

@reallydontwantaande can your family although far away come now. You really do need an advocate.

girlswillbegirls · 10/07/2023 13:35

OP I hope you are not alone and your family will be travelling to be with you. Hoping you get your results and treatment you deserve soon. xx

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 10/07/2023 16:22

Can your flat mate drop you by some stuff that you need for a longer stay?

I’m glad you are being kept in and they are doing more tests, hopefully they will get to the bottom of it soon.

whatabeautifulwedding · 10/07/2023 16:29

Although you don't want to be there it's good that they are taking things seriously and hopefully will get to the root of the problem. Keeping you in my thoughts x

Didicat · 10/07/2023 21:37

Hope they manage to pinpoint a diagnosis and get you back on track shortly and back to full health for uni in September

Polkadotpjs · 10/07/2023 22:10

Sounds like you're having a rough time. Glad you've got a visitor
