To not go to A&E again?

reallydontwantaande · 08/07/2023 17:14

Went to A&E on Thursday night after collapsing at home and then again in A&E, spent eight hours on a drip and sent home as bloods were normal. They said thought had a gastric bug as was +++ vomiting and fever.

Have been to A&E five times since the start of April with similar episodes of collapsing. Each time it’s been put down to panic/dissociative attacks. Which would sort of make sense as my MH isn’t great.

I’ve also however had diarrhea for well over a year. Had a normal colonoscopy end of Feb 22 and told its probably stress/IBS.

Went to the toilet this morning, and again twice this afternoon - heavy rectal bleeding. Toilet bowl bright red. Didn’t even notice I was bleeding until I stood up. I’ve had spotting before but never bleeding like that. Wasn’t when I was opening my bowels - was just having a wee - but the bleeding is definitely coming from the back. Felt a bit sick/giddy standing up.

111 have said to go to A&E again.

I’m mortified at the thought of going back there again, I feel like they must be thinking I’m an hypochondriac now - a couple of the nurses have said, ‘oooh, back again’ etc and have said no, the bleeding feels like it’s external, it’s bright red. There is a fair bit but it’s worse when I sit down on the toilet which makes me feel it’s something on the outside that’s splitting? It’s not so bad when I just sit still. It’s not pouring or anything.

I’ve managed to persuade 111 to get an out of hours GP to call me instead rather than spending another night in casualty, was that stupid? A&E is 5 mins in a taxi, I just don’t want them to think I’m being a hypochondriac when it’s probably only piles!

Hope your ok OP. You’ve done the right thing getting seen.

Crohns / Colitis can cause bleeding like this.

I hope you get some answers.

ItsConfusingHere · 08/07/2023 20:42

Also make sure they tell you the results of your c-reactive protein level. It indicates the amount of inflammation in your body.

I recently went through this with my 18 yr old so I understand it's scary.

Good luck to you!!❤️

Being admitted to surgical assessment unit, just waiting on a taxi to get over there now. Doctor mentioned appendicitis and other stuff. Said I’ve got abdominal guarding on right side and ‘frank bleeding of no obvious cause’

GayPareeee · 08/07/2023 20:55

Blimey, poor you.

Hope being admitted is quick and you get some rest

ElizabethBest · 08/07/2023 20:58

That would fit with the multiple earlier episodes as you may have had a grumbling appendix

Tophy124 · 08/07/2023 21:01

Yikes op!! Hope they manage to diagnose you. A year of that is far too long!!

KingTriton · 08/07/2023 21:03

Fucking anxiety! Some GPs really are useless.

Hope it's all sorted out soon

PinkStarAtNight · 08/07/2023 21:04

Kellioo · 08/07/2023 21:09

I've had bleeding like that, very worrying to see. Mine turned out to be internal piles.

I'm glad they're taking it seriously, they'll get you right again now you're in the right place.

cellulitisinbaby · 08/07/2023 21:12

Sending you a handhold Flowers

Justaddalittlespice · 08/07/2023 21:16

Don't worry to much about what you pack they will have anything you forget. Iv been in over 2 weeks and the only thing I had was a phone charger and my bank card

Lougle · 08/07/2023 21:16

Glad you're being seen. Not finding a reason for your symptoms is not the same thing as you having no symptoms.

justasking111 · 08/07/2023 21:19

Hopefully they'll pin down a diagnosis now

londonrach · 08/07/2023 21:21

Hope they finally get it sorted. Good luck op x

Since when has collapsing been common with anxiety/mental health issues? Sorry if I'm being ignorant but I've never heard of that. I'd certainly be pushing to get checked out if I was collapsing frequently.

Glad you're being seen and looked after now op.

Batalax · 08/07/2023 21:24

At least you’ll be taken seriously now.

I was going to add slippers or flip flops to your list but it’s a bit late now.

It can be a feature of functional neurological disorder. But that should be properly diagnosed and any new symptoms should still be throughly evaluated.
