Can everyone stop driving these fucking stupid ego-tanks in urban areas now?

Who needs a fucking wank panzer in Wimbledon???

Ban them in urban areas.

I live in a city
Shame on me I drive a Range Rover
Actually need it for my job supporting young adults with disabilities and learning difficulties
Couldn't fit two wheelchairs in a smart cat
Sorry 🤷‍♀️

Thatbloodyhedge · 07/07/2023 16:43

Car not cat obviously

I’m guessing you don’t live at the top of a hill, properly rural, and with any countryside responsibilities, then. You’d be hard pushed to get your little roller skate anywhere near our farmhouse in wet weather, let alone winter.

I imagine you are the exception, as most people round here don't live in farm houses or are farmers.

Not everyone who lives rurally needs a 4x4. I am proof of that as I've lived here for 23 years and only ever had teeny cars.

If you need one for work thats a different ball game, of course farmer's need a suitable vehicle, it'd be dangerous not to have one.

Momentum = mass x velocity.
Simple maths proves bigger cars are much more dangerous, and I agree they should be banned in cities.

And the stupidest post for a while goes to the OP
It was a heartbreaking accident
End of

Why don't people say this when the latest child gets mauled by a XL dog?

It's because banning unsuitable vehicles and animals from urban areas would minimise deaths and injuries from these things.

hattie43 · 07/07/2023 16:48

Nobody has to justify their choice of car to anyone . This accident whilst shocking is thankfully rare .
I love my SUV. I don't need it but I love it and my next purchase will be another

What annoys me is the posters who hurtle into these threads and are obviously intimidated/threatened/jealous, have no concern for the environment (you can tell which ones they are because their reaction is utterly disproportionate) who start with the “any one who drives an SUV is a cunt who drives like a cunt, and is a fat lazy cunt, who wants everyone to think they’re a rich cunt…” narrative.

It’s lazy, it’s ignorant and as this poor child only died yesterday, the gleeful ‘SUV cunt’ bashing, before anyone knows what’s happened, it is frankly sickening.

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 07/07/2023 16:49

I'd vote for that- plus some actual enforcement of school streets

School streets?

PuddlesPityParty · 07/07/2023 16:52

May an additional test should be needed for larger vehicles.

Anxioys · 07/07/2023 16:52

If they are a hazard to child safety then you don't need to ban them; you can lower the speed limit around schools appropriately and restrict parking around schools for all but residents.

It is the driver, not the car, but the question as to whether SUV drivers are less good drivers or take more risks isn't something we know, though anecdotally I guess many will say so (and that is my experience too).

PuddlesPityParty · 07/07/2023 16:52

I thought the speed limit on this particular street was 20mph?

You’re right, nobody has to justify the car they own, it hasn’t stopped loads of SUV drivers coming on and doing exactly that on this thread though. Maybe they feel they have to?

I imagine being called fat cunt/rich cunt/smug cunt/ignorant cunt etc, did it.

Yeah you do.

There's a whole gamut of law around what is legal to drive on a public road.

You don't get to do whatever you want even now.

Why does anyone need the bl00dy things anyway? Terrible for the planet, terrible for the safety of any person or vehicle they come up against. We’re getting unnecessarily infected by all the worst of America yet again.

There’s a real strength of feeling about unwarranted ownership, I suppose.

Anxioys · 07/07/2023 16:58

@bellac11 - no idea. 20mph is okay ish for standing pedestrians. If you are hit on the ground then serious injury or death is likely. Even then it's not a target is it?

It seems reasonable to assume that the impact speed was greater than 20mph.

Nellynoowhoareyou · 07/07/2023 16:58

There’s an environmental movement to slash SUV tyres under cover of darkness you know…

Are you confused? Or just piqued? We’re all answerable for our conduct in the road and the condition of our vehicles, but anyone can can buy any car they like, so long as they have the financial means and the appropriate licensing.

Just because they can, doesn’t mean they should.

I’m not sure encouraging criminal damage to other people’s property is the argument ‘win’ you might like. 😆

DataNotLore · 07/07/2023 17:02

There's a real strength of feeling about urban areas becoming barely habitable due to excessive car use and these monstrosities are the most obvious manifestation of it.

They're not justifiable, they're anti-social and dangerous.

The law controls what is on the roads and what it is allowed to do. We do not live in a car advert, driving carefree across dunes having adventures.

Most of us live in tightly controlled, densely populated and regulated urban areas. You do not have the freedom to drive whatever you want, however you want. The law controls that.

It can control this problem too.
