Can everyone stop driving these fucking stupid ego-tanks in urban areas now?

Who needs a fucking wank panzer in Wimbledon???

Ban them in urban areas.

Hmmmm, an investigation will tell what actually happened, hopefully. The driver may have bitten through her tongue on impact. She was discharged from hospital very quickly.

A car is a dangerous weapon, and, obviously, a very large vehicle can do worse harm. I do not disagree that many Range Rover drivers do have an attitude. Some years ago I had a row with a school mum who backed up onto the pavement. When I remonstrated with her, she said, “I can’t see out of the back” Shock as if this were perfectly reasonable and it was up to me and the dcs to jump out of the way.

And I’ve just remembered that the other week I was standing at a corner with dog waiting to cross and another Range Rover woman was gesticulating at me with gritted teeth. I was a bit confused, until I realised she wanted me to step back as I was impeding her view Angry . She could easily have just let me cross the road instead of the arm waving and mouthing.

Well if thats the case, that could happen to any one of us, horrific and frightening (and an example was given upthread by a previous poster too of a similar thing)

I dont think the nature of the vehicle has much to do with it

It illustrates perfectly why lorry drivers have to have regular medical checks.

Well if it was a random seizure it could be an accident. If some prior medical condition either known or undeclared to the DVLA then the driver is in real trouble.

being in a large vehicle & high up makes them feel superior & invincible

Horrific
if only she'd been driving a normal vehicle instead of that ego boosting 'look how rich I am get out of my way you peasants' monster truck

Yes indeed.

Or not driven if she knew she was subject to seizures.

Not necessarily. If epilepsy is well-controlled, you haven't had a fit for 6 or 12 months (it varies) and the DVLA's medical advisors are satisfied that you are safe.

I have epilepsy, haven't had a seizure for over 10 years (touches wood), and I drive. I have a 2 year licence. Every time I renew it I have to fill in lots of forms, as does my GP and the DVLA have the final say-so.

If properly declared and risk-assessed, the driver won't be in 'real trouble.' She will however, have to live with what's happened for the rest of her life and I really feel for her. That doesn't mean I don't also feel terribly sorry for those who were the victims of this terrible accident. But if she was deemed fit to drive, it was an accident.

A medical test wouldn't have helped my friend.
He had never had a seizure before. He did have a second a few months later when he was finally out in medication. He had another couple of episodes over the following year iirr. I don't think he's ever had another since - that was a fair few years ago now.

So a medical test wouldn't have found any issues.

Qilin · 09/07/2023 19:39

And yes, my friend is doing driving again. He had a period of a year or two where he couldn't. It's all fully declared.

supersonicginandtonic · 09/07/2023 20:05

It's just been announced that a second girl has died. How awfully sad for everybody involved

Such sad news.
Those poor families and children.

Unimaginable - and don’t try and gaslight me that this massive 2 tonne tank didn’t contribute to this mess. A brick bench in the grounds was fully wiped out by that car. These status symbol cars are killers. Women not being able to see properly out of them. Don’t gaslight me.

Lacucuracha · 09/07/2023 22:19

RIP Nouria Sajad. 2 lives lost, unbelievable.

If the woman she could have seizures and still drove that behemoth then she should be jailed.

TheModHatter · 09/07/2023 23:06

Poor poor families.

I do. There is an aerial shot that shows that the vehicle destroyed a concrete plinth type bench before hitting the school wall. And it’s front is less dented than when I ran my Ordinary hatchback into a wooden post at 10mph. My car couldn’t have got through the concrete bench. These Range Rovers are designed to be incredibly powerful and indestructible. Of course it makes a difference when an accident happens.

OK, we won't gaslight you especially as you've told us twice not to do so in your post Hmm

Regardless of what car she was driving, if she drove knowing that she wasn't allowed to do so because of seizures, she should have the book thrown at her. It could be that she's got a clear medical history and that this was a tragic accident.

Standingchair1 · 09/07/2023 23:23

You could ask yourself “why have I chosen to own a giant dog?”.

anonacfr · 09/07/2023 23:23

Not saying that it's the case here, but I think we'd be surprised at the number of people who shouldn't be driving but still do. One of my father's closest friends has advanced Parkinsons and still drives. Apparently his GP told him he still could because not being allowed to drive would affect his mental health too much... 🤔

Standingchair1 · 09/07/2023 23:26

And I can confirm you are talking bol*ks!

Oh look there's an SUV driver ☝️👀

jannier · 10/07/2023 16:04

I'm pretty sure that if you floored any normal sized family car it would go through a wooden fence and brick supported bench especially if in a seizure you did not lift your foot. The issue will be if she was fit to drive or had been told not to.
A tragedy

category12 · 10/07/2023 16:59

Oh come on, why are people in such denial about basic physics?

TheModHatter · 10/07/2023 17:31

I'm pretty sure that if you floored any normal sized family car it would go through a wooden fence and brick supported bench

So if a low powered hatchback can do the same as a Range Rover, in terms of power, why does anyone need a RR? For all these big towing / uphill tasks? Why buy a RR at all if the extra weight and power isn’t needed?

Ive just realised that I made this comment and you're talking about me

I dont have an SUV, never even driven one

Try not to make assumptions about people.

MLMsuperfan · 10/07/2023 19:29

If a child is hit by a mini they will be scooped onto the bonnet. If they're hit by an SUV they'll be pulled under the wheels.
