Never play chess with a pigeon; they kick over the pieces, shit on the board and still insist that they've won.

@Gulikitti coo.

I'd agree so by saying coo I'd guess your the pigeon 🤣

You're the gift that just keeps on giving.

Still no idea what your point is, suspect we'll never know! What a mystery!

Post at 17:59 & 17:58 no you did not. It's like talking to children 🤣

So you were quoting me in your post, for fun rather than responding to what I'd said.

Good to know.

Don't worry I don't talk pigeon so I guess you'll never know. 🤣

One child dead. Another brain dead. Two children lost legs. 7 month old baby fractured skull. Mother in ICU. Another having spinal operation. She is going to have to live with that for the rest of her life.

Oh my goodness that's awful.

But hey yeah let's just debate SUVs.

MissHen · 08/07/2023 21:42

Glad that this was mentioned. I live in a very rural coastal area. SUVs are not practical. Too wide for the lanes, miles from Petrol Stations, block roads so buses can't run. Most here drive hatchbacks, small vans, estates or real tractors. When people arrive during the Summer in huge Chelsea tractors we dread it. These new 'Defenders' are designed to easily overcome obstructions such as ditches and walls. Can't see a need in City or Country for that.

This is awful. It hasn't been reported, wonder why.

Where does this info come from?

And part of the point is that a small car would probably not have caused so much awful damage.

Zonder · 09/07/2023 08:11

I still can't see how the car got where it did. The fence around the front garden looks intact on the photos.

This is just nonsense. An out of control smaller car, could easily have caused more damage depending on how it swerves and its trajectory. Anyone who drives knows this.

There is a huge hole in the wooden fence. The photos you are looking at don’t show it. All the flowers are lined up against the hole.

I’m just not sure I buy this. This was an enormous 2 tonne car. I can’t see how a smaller lighter car would do similar damage.

Qilin · 09/07/2023 12:20

I think the issue as to why the fences didn't stop the car will possibly down to whatever happened with the driver. It's likely she had a medical issue which forced her foot to remain in the accelerator at all times which meant the car would just keep going. A relatively small fence won't stop that sadly.

This may be outing in real life but a friend of ours had a seizure when driving one morning. He'd never had one before. Dh was in the passenger seat and a friend behind them. When he had the seizure his whole body locked with his foot clamped down on the accelerator pedal and his hands locked in a turning steering wheel. Luckily he wasn't alone and it was a quiet road on a Sunday morning. 2 miles down the road it would have been much busy. A week day morning the area would have been much busy with cars and pedestrians on school and work runs as close to the local primary. Half an hour later he'd have been on a busy motorway.

A much worse incident was averted as dh undid his seat belt and used his hands to remove friend's foot and the other friend lent over to grab the handbrake and keep the steering wheel in one direction. Dh and friend were shell shocked tbh - it all happened so suddenly and so quickly. It was very much a case of right place right time for it not to have killed someone.

If something similar has occurred the poor driver will need to live with this for the rest of her life, as well as the trauma all of those children and their families will be experiencing for goodness knows how long.

Pearlsaminga · 09/07/2023 13:21

Horrific
if only she'd been driving a normal vehicle instead of that ego boosting 'look how rich I am get out of my way you peasants' monster truck

Anyotherdude · 09/07/2023 14:13

It wasn’t the fault of the car itself, and from what I’ve read, neither the fault of the driver (the driver apparently had a seizure at the wheel, bit through their tongue). The fence that it went through appeared to be a wooden one - unusually - most schools do seem to favour railings.
A very sad accident, but unfortunately the same outcome was likely regardless of the vehicle involved (a Mini Cooper EV is a mere 27 kilos lighter than a Land Rover/Range Rover Evoque)
Accidents do happen - hopefully the investigation will figure out how to prevent similar in future.

A metal fence barrier, a wooden fence and a concrete bench (not clear).

Well if thats the case, that could happen to any one of us, horrific and frightening (and an example was given upthread by a previous poster too of a similar thing)

I dont think the nature of the vehicle has much to do with it
