Can everyone stop driving these fucking stupid ego-tanks in urban areas now?

Who needs a fucking wank panzer in Wimbledon???

Ban them in urban areas.

Any recent, uk links to small cars doing this?

SUV's seem to be a reoccurring theme, bit like certain breeds of dog being involved in attacks

That link is very close to me. Infact I go to that hair salon.

From what I know this incident was caused due to the driver hitting the accelerator rather than the brake pedal when parking in the spaces just outside, just off the road. It's not the first time it's occurred there either shockingly despite not being open very long. Last time it was not a SUV but still caused similar damage. In the case locally the type of car doesn't appear to have been the main cause of the incidents, driver error was the issue.

It should also be pointed out that although in sheffield the location is towards the edge of the city. Less than a mile down the road it's rural and farms/field so a lot of visitors to those shops have these cars for genuine reasons. Obviously plenty of people also have them without the farm/horse/moving livestock/large objects reasons too, but it's not quite like being right in the city centre here.

We should ban peanuts too

And all swimming in the sea

And bicycles

And all forms of knives

And erm, other stuff

Peanuts are banned in most childcare settings.
And rightfully so.

DataNotLore · 08/07/2023 15:57

@AussiUnHomme

First one the fence collapsed because it was faulty, second link the car was stopped by the fence.

Why are electric cars so heavy?

I want them banned across London. Children's lives are at risk.

@AussiUnHomme

Might want to read the links before you post in future.

We have 3 family cars, a small one no bigger than a mini, a mid sized one and a 4x4.

I find the 4x4 much easier to drive. It’s high so I can see far ahead, it has an excellent reversing camera with trajectory lines, front and side sensors, out of lane alarm, tells you if you’re over the speed limit. it’s so easy and comfortable to drive and very safe.

The smaller car is very nippy and probably much easier to lose control of than the 4x4.

This incident could have easily involved a works van, bus, or lorry. The issue was the person wasn’t in CONTROL of the vehicle nor the actual vehicle!

I'm waiting for the links.

There is a Mini for you 😂

Yes only a scratch 😂😅

the type of car may not be the cause of the incident but it has a very strong bearing on the amount of damage which ensues.
Same as guns and dogs; an assault rifle does more damage that a small low powered gun (not a gun person, dont know the correct terms) the XL bully does more damage than the jack russel.

Exactly.

Nobody is arguing that small cars don't crash.

@DataNotLore You were waiting for links, now I'm waiting for your reply to the image of a Mini that went through some ones fence, through a garden and hedge and then proceeded to destroy the house and burn it down.

bellabasset · 08/07/2023 17:54

My deepest sympathies to Serena's parents and all those who were in the grounds of the school. These vehicles used to be referred to as Chelsea tractors. But whatever the reason for the crash the woman driving the vehicle will lose her license at the very least and she will live with the knowledge of the death of that little girl as well as causing Injuries to others I know the area well as I used to walk my dogs there on early summer mornings.

Pearlsaminga · 08/07/2023 17:55

SUVs are more likely to kill pedestrians because of where they impact
yes and now we see that SUV owners attempt the same spin as XL bully owners who point out that Chihuahuas can be very aggressive.
They want the big fuck off vehicle for similar reasons people want a big fuck off dog, so they can feel like the big cheese!

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/about-here-suvs-1.6411168

Of course getting hit by any vehicle is bad, but your survival chances are lower if it's an SUV.

Yet in the most up-to-date findings Between 2004 and 2021:

  • fatalities decreased from 671 to 361 (-46%)
  • serious injuries (adjusted) fell by 51%
  • pedestrian traffic (distance walked) grew by 10%
Averaged over the period 2016 to 2021:

Yet SUVs are more popular than ever 🤔.

May be safety by design does work.

Also your posting a link to an American report where American SUVs are not really comparable to Thier UK counterparts. 🙄

You need to post a link to the story.

One child dead. Another brain dead. Two children lost legs. 7 month old baby fractured skull. Mother in ICU. Another having spinal operation. She is going to have to live with that for the rest of her life.

I judge anyone driving one of those in a city. Totally egocentric - ‘look at me and how wealthy I am with my unnecessarily massive tank.’ Embarrassing.

There’s loads of them in wimbledon. Mums dropping their kids at school in them. They are status symbols.

That's a link to a fairly generic gov data resource.

Which elements are most relevant to your position and how?
