To think men can NEVER be mothers

I am furious that men like this think they can call themselves mums/mothers. This deserves a wide audience, hence posting in AIBU.

(11) Paul Embery on Twitter: "ITV news did a piece about the impact of soaring water bills on an everyday mother. So naturally they got a man to play the part. t.co/b0ipO7loUE" / Twitter

I'd be interested to hear more from those who are answering YABU.

What's wrong with calling themselves fathers? Have a bit of pride in what you actually are instead of pretending to be something you're not. They can still wear what they want and have long hair or whatever, but only women can be mothers. I don't see why this is controversial.

Naunet · 29/06/2023 14:04

Course they can’t, but women having anything of their own or not fully supporting men’s appropriation and perversion of language, is hateful apparently 🥺

Men’s desire to larp, is more important than women’s born reality it seems.

SmartHome · 29/06/2023 14:07

I really thought this one was a piss take it was SO ludicrous. And no actual mother would a) put the washing machine in such a stupid place b) use a washing up bowl as a laundry basket!

Yes, have the courage of your convictions. Why should Men be encouraged to appropriate the identity of 'mother'?

WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports · 29/06/2023 14:12

YANBU OP.
I'm also awaiting anyone voting YABU to stop being a coward and explain.

LittleMG · 29/06/2023 14:13

I know I’m going to be really flamed and I don’t think this in a nasty way at all… but I honestly feel that when I had my child I became a mother in lots of ways, I mean like I gained this kind of second sight/intuition to my children I never had with anyone else. My husband is an amazing dad and we parent 50/50 but he does not have my intuition when it comes to my babies. Men dont get it imo

rwalker · 29/06/2023 14:14

Aren’t they just falling over themselves to be inclusive
if it’s real I don’t think the person in the video Would describe themselves as a man

Whattodowithit88 · 29/06/2023 14:15

No, they are fathers, don’t know why they are ashamed to say so either, especially in this day and age you get some really good fathers too.

I would say this is the fault of ITV for pandering to.this nonsense
I.know .mumsnet,is always up in arms about men wanting to.be women but anecdotally I know of two.young women who feel they are men, so this works both ways sadly.

jeaux90 · 29/06/2023 14:21

I also object to the rank homophobia.

If this is a woman it means men can be lesbians, I don't bloody think so.

Samcro · 29/06/2023 14:22

i saw that on the news. when they said they were a mum, I admit to saying your not.

MykonosMaiden · 29/06/2023 14:22

Meh. You hear this a lot but between both my parents...
My mother is anxious about everything, fusses around a lot and can certainly tell that I'm hungry/tired/grumpy. She thinks I'm an angel though and doesn't understand my true nature as deeply as my father.

Helleofabore · 29/06/2023 14:24

Well, these male people describe themselves as women or girls, they describe themselves as lesbians, there is no word they won’t take and destabilise for their own use. There are no boundaries. This is just the results of queer theory in action. And people are applauding it.

All the while, female sex crime is increasing quickly in areas where males are recorded as female, and males are celebrated as the ‘first women military leader / what ever’ when it is a male with all the male privilege, and ‘men can miraculously give birth and be celebrated’ when they are female bodied people and female people have been giving since the human species all began.

Language is a free for all for whoever wants to make it mean the exact opposite to the intended meaning often for their own gain. And here is another opposite that posters do when they answer threads like this, they say ‘no harm done, it is people living their life’, because they cannot recognise the harm. Probably because they have no idea how it impacts others, or they simply couldn’t give a toss because it isn’t them and they are all right Jack!

CampervanKween · 29/06/2023 14:25

OMG make it stop.

Do these men not realize how ridiculous they look, pretending to be something they are not and never will be.

LongStoryLong · 29/06/2023 14:27

That’s offensively ridiculous

ITV don‘t actually use the word mother or woman though - they just say "this bill payer" and "customer" (both verbally and on the caption below) and I imagine they are just trying to be inclusive. I mean what does it matter if the person who is struggling to pay their bills is a woman or a man, they‘re both equally valid. I don‘t have a problem with ITV here.

It‘s only the person in the video who refers to themselves as a mother.

It‘s the person who posted the twitter link who has made this into something its not "ITV did a piece on (...) everyday mothers". I don‘t think that was the point at all.

It’s a story about how the increase in energy/water bills impacts mothers, so yes, they’re heavily implying they think this dude is a mother.

IhaveanewTVnow · 29/06/2023 14:35

Regarding the “you are being unreasonable… “ I’m starting to think on MN that people just don’t understand the question being asked.
