That teachers should be held legally responsible for erroneously teaching children they can change sex?

Listening to this ridiculous teacher today bullying two students, isn't it time that we started holding teachers responsible for indoctrinating children into thinking they can identify as anything they feel like?

How did we get to this point where kids are so afraid to speak up because of being bullied by classmates or even by teachers?

YABU - I identify as a cat
YANBU - teachers should face the legal consequences for encouraging children to identify out of their biological sex.

Please stop putting this stuff in AIBU or other areas of mumsnet. Its absolute poison. I can ignore the roiling cesspit that “feminism” has become but I can’t block all the other topics and still enjoy the site.

As I scroll through AIBU many topics don’t interest me. I’m not sure if you aren’t aware of this, but you don’t actually need to click on and comment on topics that you don’t want to. It’s not like a work email

whereaw · 18/06/2023 10:57

@pikkumyy77 can't you just pretend the threads on gender ideology don't exist?

Certainly, what's being taught might be regarded as "poison"

@WonderingWanda

But do you teach children that they can change their biological sex?

No and nowhere have I suggested I do. Why do you think that I do this based on one tik toc video you've found?

FourTeaFallOut · 18/06/2023 11:02

This never happens

No you can't have a copy of the teaching materials

That kid is lying

All those kids are lying

Ha, your kid will be suspended for recording the thing that never happens.

SunnyEgg · 18/06/2023 11:03

I believe it is illegal, yes, to record someone without their permission, and then post that recording online with identifying information. I am willing to be corrected if wrong.

I‘m not sure about this as we see so many people end up in recordings - the Starbucks incident, today a video on partying is out, so many more that don’t come to mind atm

Would be good for someone in the know to clarify

Asiatoyork · 18/06/2023 11:11

I've gone down the rabbit hole! From what I’ve read, recording without consent is not illegal, but sharing or publishing it is a grey area, and depends on the intent. I really want a lawyer to tell us.

But I agree with the broad point that it’s not really a suitable topic at all, and feel really sorry in general for teachers getting caught in the middle of it.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 18/06/2023 11:11

There is no law preventing people from taking photographs in public. This includes taking photos of other people’s children. If you are taking photographs from private land, you need to have the land owner’s permission. Taking a photo of a person where they can expect privacy, such as inside their home or garden, is likely to cause a breach of privacy laws.

The best I can find is from Avon and Somerset police. Schools are on private land and most have a blanket ban on photography unless express permission is given by the subject of the photograph and their responsible adult if the subject is a child. But, equally, nobody has an expectation of privacy in a classroom so it is likely a civil rather than criminal matter.

Report someone taking photographs in a public place | Avon and Somerset Police

There is no law preventing people taking photographs in a public place, providing they are not considered to be indecent.

I’m very gender critical but am happy to support students that are trans, despite knowing they can’t actually change their sex. However, im stuck between a rock and a hard place. All bar one of our trans students are asd, very intelligent but perhaps haven’t found their people (all bar 2 are f to m). Id be hauled over the coals if I suggested they aren’t trans (statistically, they can’t all possibly be trans) and just need help addressing their nd or sometimes mental health - I’d be out of a job. The government need clear guidelines that link directly to the medical profession. We are doing these kids a disservice but how do I know if the parents are like me or if they buy into this nonsense? I don’t. I wouldn’t be caught out like the teacher in this case though, I’d agree with the girls that their views are protected by law.

Farmageddon · 18/06/2023 11:31

Tabletable · 18/06/2023 10:22

My whole staff room agrees with you. However, the teachers would all be risking our jobs if they’re told to teach it and refuse to. Luckily they haven’t been. Yet.

Can we just think about this for a minute.

Even if you remove the actual topic of discussing here, can we please acknowledge the dangerous implications of how this is being dealt with. We are in a situation (in a supposedly open and democratic society) where ordinary people are afraid to say something truthful and factual, or challenge something untruthful in public lest they risk losing their jobs. It's completely ridiculous.

How are so many people ok with this? Do they really think this MO wont be used in other ways to manipulate, now it's been demonstrated how effective it is.

Whether or not you agree or disagree with the issue, shutting down debate or conversation or indeed threatening people's livelihood and reputation is disturbing.

Even worse is how many people don't seem to care, as it doesn't affect them directly. People like pikkumyy77 who want to cover their eyes and ears and pretend it will all just go away if we don't look at it.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/06/2023 11:40

It's not a picture of democracy or liberalism that I recognise Farmageddon.

WandaWomblesaurus · 18/06/2023 11:42

@WonderingWanda

That's great if you don't - I'm not sure where you got the idea that I think ALL teachers do this - especially when I already mentioned that I know teachers who are afraid of losing their jobs. That's like coming on to a thread and saying "Not all men."

Maybe wasn't your intention.

Climate change is a genuine issue though. Can't bury our heads in the sand about it.

An gender ideology nonsense isn't? Christ.

Cesspit, that's what you think about women talking about the safeguarding of women and children?

How lost you must be.

What is poison? You know you don't have to open and comment on threads if you don't want to...

@RudsyFarmer

"Brilliant. Let’s terrify the kids about climate Armageddon instead. What a time to be alive."

Well burying their heads in the sand isn't going to do much good is it? It certainly hasn't done a whole lot of good while we've all done it!

Avondale89 · 18/06/2023 12:53

I feel so sorry for teachers in this day and age.
No wonder there’s a shortage.
And none of this hand wringing is about the “poor children”, it’s about bigotry. The children are just a convenient moral veil.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/06/2023 12:54

I'm surprised you aren't in mortal peril of collapse as you traipse up and down MN to demand posters turn their petty thoughts to Armageddon. Oh, but you seem to be stuck here?

cuckyplunt · 18/06/2023 12:55

The children are just a convenient moral veil.

These children, the ones being told that they a wrong, homophobic, in jeopardy of being expelled, being sent for re-education and expected to submit a report for their observation of reality? These children?

Fairislefandango · 18/06/2023 13:04

*Id be hauled over the coals if I suggested they aren’t trans (statistically, they can’t all possibly be trans).

This suggests that there's a difference in definition between being genuinely trans and not. But there isn't, is there? Trans just means wanting to be / 'identifying as' the opposite sex. The root cause of what is making them want to be the opposite sex is, as far as I'm aware, is not any part of the definition at all.

I see that this woman's name and photo are now all over twitter, with her email address and encouragement to send her abuse.

No concerns for safeguarding women there, I see.

stbrandonsboat · 18/06/2023 13:10

That teacher sounds as thick as mince. I suppose with the shortage of teachers these days they have to take any old rubbish. The teaching profession needs intelligent, skilled individuals not brainwashed drones.

Apologies to the actually intelligent teachers here, but you have to admit, standards are plummeting.

JudgeJ · 18/06/2023 13:13

MintJulia · 18/06/2023 01:37

My ds just rolls his eyes if anyone talks about trans. He's bored as only a 14yo can be with the topic.

Parents need to teach their children that everyone has different opinions on such subjects and that they are entitled to their own views.

A school should be teaching critical thinking but depending on what country you are in, some teachers are required to stick to a set curriculum.

I think the majority of teachers would be delighted to simply stick to the curriculum and leave all the extraneous stuff to parents etc., it would certainly have a positive impact on retaining teachers because many are sick to the back teeth of being pushed by agendas that are simply this season's box ticking exercises.

How is that relevant to the discussion here, where posters have not stated any of that personal information?
