I've been on Mumsnet for around 10 years now, I have read some crazy threads.

I'm lying in bed hungover and looking for some stories to brighten up my shameful Saturday afternoon.

If anyone wants to share it would be greatly appreciated Grin

The woman who screamed when she saw the Sistine chapel 😂

That was weird but not funny.

Strawberrydelight78 · 17/06/2023 18:26

AIBU to be annoyed this person told my child off when I wasn't paying attention. When it was pointed out no they weren't her child was being a little shit and she wasn't paying attention to what he was doing. They updated saying they weren't talking about they're own child but SIL and her son.🤔

Might have been me. I have a box of slippers. Wouldn't call them "artisanal", though (I can spell it). Just a set of 6 that came off eBay. They're not mandatory, just an option if people want them.

I wasnt being nasty, so not sure why you seem to have taken it that way. The thread was probably 10-15 years ago, and I definitely remember them being artisanal slippers. Not sure if it was you or not, I just found it amusing.

Sorry for my spelling though 🙄

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I think this one deserves a prize. It's hilarious.

I keep looking out for threads that may have been written by Alan Bennett. I think this is one of the them. It can't be for real, surely?

Turtles4543 · 17/06/2023 18:28

Does anyone remember, it was something like things overhead on a bus? There was a boy on the phone talking to waster-man and it was his dad…I think

SammyScrounge · 17/06/2023 18:28

I loved the one where the poster found her mother-in-law ironing the poster's thongs into neat little triangles.

OhComeOnFFS · 17/06/2023 18:29

The one I remember was a nice gentle thread about helium balloons and the first person to post went absolutely fucking nuts, screaming her head off about how we were all going to die.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 17/06/2023 18:29

Now I know that someone remembers me as a loon because I've got slippers that guests are welcome to use if they want to, I remember another time people regarded me as a MN crazy. It was a thread about using the toilet at home and I don't mind admitting I was surprised that so many people don't wash their hands if they're home and it's a wee. I always wash my hands wherever, whatever. Was told I was a MN germphobic clean freak. Can't be, I don't hover over toilet seats.

Cheers you're a star 🌟

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/06/2023 18:32

It's the batshit ones I remember rather than the funniest, people who walk among us believing their behaviour is fine when it's really not.

tacomaco · 17/06/2023 18:32

Not bonkers in terms of WTF but I was responsible for the mumsnet scarf about 12 years ago. That all did go a bit bonkers.

Purplepeaches123 · 17/06/2023 18:32

Loads that I can’t remember but a recent one about a jealous husband and a poster said he was in the right and that women shouldn’t chat to men when out with friends. When I asked the poster what you should do if a man speaks to you when out she basically said cut him off and walk away 😂

Always wash your hands, well-done

Er, well, you were laughing at my "artisenal" (sic) slippers and how much the idea amused you, so it's really not that I took it any way, it's about what you objectively said. You can laugh if you want, just please don't try to blame me for it. Own it.

But don't worry, I don’t actually give a shit. I was called a "fucking weirdo" on the thread for doing it (was that you?) so I do realise not everyone likes the idea. I got it from a Muslim friend who has a shoeless house and has a basket of guest slippers. Stopped my feet from getting cold at her place, plus I don't really like being barefoot.

But they really aren't very artisanal. Don't know where you got that from. Maybe someone asked what they looked like.

NobbyButtons · 17/06/2023 18:38

The one where the OP wanted to make her cats ice cream from dead shrews springs to mind!

KaliforniaDreamz · 17/06/2023 18:38

re: the dolphin thread, this reply has cracked me up

pombal · 06/10/2018 23:55
I’m glad I clicked on this.

I’m off to buy some tuna right now.

TheShellBeach · 17/06/2023 18:41

There was a glorious baby names thread which MNHQ deleted (boo!) where the OP wanted to call her baby Luckey-Buoy.

Rogue1001MNer · 17/06/2023 18:42

@cassiatwenty and anyone else who's never been there.

If you've got time to kill, mn classics (in mn stuff) will waste hours of your life in good ways!

And the Hugo one.

That was very, very funny

Diorinthecountry · 17/06/2023 18:45

The one where the op wasn't a happy bunny because she was working and her friends went ahead with a dinner party without her.

Maireas · 17/06/2023 18:46

Don't worry about it, @DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder , it's actually quite a nice idea, and I've seen it in Islamic homes. I think the shoes off, flooring and carpeting does seem to attract somewhat extreme responses. I've no idea why.
