I've been on Mumsnet for around 10 years now, I have read some crazy threads.

I'm lying in bed hungover and looking for some stories to brighten up my shameful Saturday afternoon.

If anyone wants to share it would be greatly appreciated Grin

OP posts:

Over lockdown, there was some intense discussion about whether cucumber could be deemed to be essential shopping.

I'm sure I don't know what you mean.

Recently it was the post about how humans should be able to swim in the ocean risk free and sharks are very entitled for sometimes eating them.

That story reminded me of the "old blonde joke", where she goes to the city council meeting to complain that the deer are not going across the road at the "deer crossing" signs. She wanted someone to do something, so they would only cross where they were allowed.

A short one, but one of my faves where to OP answers herself 3 years later.

Thanks for sharing, I've been here years and never seen that one before. Brilliant. 😆

TwisterorSolero · 17/06/2023 18:10

The thread that made me laugh the hardest, one poster divulged that in her family a poo that exits, escapes down the u bend without the need to flush, and left no residue was called a Lucky Barry. I have stolen it.

The Sistene screamer was very funny. As was the Maui poster and her misguided belief that all of MN was agog and breathlessly waiting for her to share updates on her wedding, honeymoon and decor decisions.

But why were they screaming?

You're a bit of a Rogue 😅😋

😊😆😘😘
It's just a normal thread up until about pg 18. Then it gets funny

ShakeYourFeathers · 17/06/2023 18:11

I'm sure the thread is in classics but can't find it to refresh my memory

The one where someone was a guy doing work on ops house. And they rocked up with their grandmother who couldn't speak English. And she was just parked in the garden for hours. And the op wanted to be hospitable but couldn't communicate with her

Maireas · 17/06/2023 18:11

There's one at the moment with a woman having spent three days staying with someone and raging about the textiles in their house! Too many carpets, curtains and cushions! In the title actually blaming the UK. Cue obsession with flooring, someone heaving when they hoover and the OP hating carpets because of "gross bare feet and spillages"!! Very odd and very very amusing. Also a different take on UK bashing. I'll get a link.

So moved by the beauty of the art.

It.was.hilarious!!!

Thanks for posting this one!!!

Maireas · 17/06/2023 18:16

As pp have said, hen do ones are usually bonkers, and there's been a flurry of mad bridesmaid ones recently.

Ebananascroogey · 17/06/2023 18:17

I can't find it now to link but I was howling at the one where a woman accidentally painted a pigeon 🤣

@Rogue1001MNer Will you kindly help me access this thread? Is it in classics? I agree art can be very moving though unsure how others experience it

MrsToothyBitch · 17/06/2023 18:18

My faves have been posted - pom bears, rapey dolphins and entitled use of supersoakers.

I also loved an absolutely bonkers thread where OPs Dds hamster had died on Dds bday, the little girl had left for school without seeing him and so hadn't reslised. The Op was debating popping him in the freezer for a day or two, so as not to ruin the birthday and the party they were having the next day!

I love "the UK should have moved on from carpeting"!! It's probably a wind up, but it's very amusing and brings out the hygiene weirdos. Enjoy!

That thread put me on mind of the poster quite some time back who wanted her guests to take off their shoes when they entered her house, but she did have a selection of artisenal slippers to offer them 🤣

I can't fully remember the details, but the thought of someone having a random basket of artisenal slippers has always amused me.

Hintofreality · 17/06/2023 18:19

Penis beaker!

getyourfucksinarow · 17/06/2023 18:20

I've been here for nearly 20 years. There have been many, but one that sticks in my mind involved an OP who was stranded on her worktop because her husband had gone to work and she couldn't get down. She then said she was ill because nobody was very sympathetic to her plight, and all of a sudden her mum was there and she had a doctor's appointment and was diagnosed with flu, all within the space of about 2 hours. I think the OP was called UpsideUp, but the only thread that's in AS under that name is one about whether a slug could have moved a glass which she put on top of it.

Korean lady. Mentioned upthread.
Ever so slightly racist and very probably untrue. See also Mexican house thief and the patio door bollocks.

Might have been me. I have a box of slippers. Wouldn't call them "artisanal", though (I can spell it). Just a set of 6 that came off eBay. They're not mandatory, just an option if people want them.

CherryCokeFanatic · 17/06/2023 18:22

There was one about puddles and awful neighbours that sounded ridiculous but haven’t been able to find it again

Superdupes · 17/06/2023 18:23

I remember one where the OP was being annoyed by someone, at work I think it was, so whenever she spoke the OP made pigeon noises at her - or maybe it was owl noises. The OP didn't seem to think it was a strange thing to do at all.

skyfalldown · 17/06/2023 18:23

The woman who screamed when she saw the Sistine chapel 😂
