To tell those who lecture me on vaping to Fuck Off

I'm in my 50s and was a long term smoker. I switched to vaping in January. I am considerate and only vape outdoors and move away from other people or into a smoking area. People sometimes
comment, there's a brief convo around my giving up smoking, and 9 out of 10 respond nicely in a 'well done you' kind of way.

The 1 out of 10 though start lecturing me on the evils of vaping. These can be complete strangers, or acquaintances. They go on and on.
Usual themes:

1. Just as bad for you or worse for you than smoking.
2. Children are vaping.
3. Environmental impact of disposables.

I respond politely. I acknowledge there is a concern around all of this, and
1 - I know they aren't exactly good for me but I think they are not as bad as cigarettes, and it's my intension to also stop vaping this year
2 - I agree the manufacturer's should stop targeting non-smokers with the sweet flavours
3 - I agree, I use a rechargeable, but there's probably a lot more all of us could be doing for the environment.

But they do not let it drop. I've literally been lectured at on and on.

YANBU to stop being polite after my initial response and tell them that if I stopped vaping today, I'd be back on the fags tomorrow so mind their own fucking business?

I'd just shrug and say I enjoy it.

Oh sod them. Congratulations on quitting smoking, regardless of vaping not being ideal, quitting smoking is a massive achievement and you should be bloody proud. In an ideal world I'm sure we'd all love to do everything perfectly but in the real world something is better than nothing. Good on you.

Youve just swapped one for another?? Vaping cant be good for you. My dad died of lung cancer. I can see why you would use vaping to stop smoking but are you addicted now to vaping?

I think both should be done at home. The smell of vapes is nauseating tbh fag smoke is horrible too and it triggers my sons asthma. I don’t care what you do as long as I don’t have to breathe it in.

I don't really vape while out except maybe at the bus stop if there's no one there.

I do hate the smell and fug of some vapes, is it that that's bothering them?

I Vape, and get the lecture sometimes. Most recently from a weed smoker (weed is better than vape liquid, according to him), and also a woman with a face full of filler who's also now considering Botox for eye wrinkles. Who says what they're putting into their bodies is better/safer than what I'm doing? I ignore, and if people go on about it I tell them to stop. I'd take vaping over cigarettes anytime. No more coughing and wheezing I have loads more energy now. House no longer stinks of smoke. At this point in time I don't care what anyone says, we all have our vices.

It's none of their business. I've been using an e-cig for over two years, now. I've stopped before, several times, but always started again. I don't use it near people, even though there's hardly any emanations. My health has improved an awful lot, since starting it.

Vape smoke is really vile. You probably don't realise just how vile it is for non vapers to walk through a cloud of the stuff. On that front alone YABU to vape in public.

Sidebar- I've had a stressful couple of weeks and vaping has really helped. I'm watching it carefully because I can see the dopamine being a potential problem, but generally, it's nice to do.

I've vaped for years now. I don't plan to give up vaping ever.

I used to smoke 40 a day at least. I no longer cough, I don't wheeze, and I am much healthier. We know for a fact that vaping is millions of times healthier than smoking.

I just tell people that I love it and I don't plan on quitting.

Fuck 'em. I would drop anyone who felt they had the right to do this. I find any vapour aroma less nauseating than people's perfume/aftershave. I don't vape but sanctimonious gobshites really fuck me off.

My god these stink. I cannot bear vaping, why the bloody hell should we have to breathe in your discarded vapour? It's as anti social as it gets imho.

I vape in public and will continue to do so. People always moaned at the smell of smoke being disgusting. It is I agree. Now people are moaning that it is vile to smell the sweet smell of vape juice.

I walk past a lot of smells that I don't particularly like. It's life, you just have to suck it up. I do not blow massive clouds though.

Oh get over it. No worse than petrol fumes, overpowering perfume or BO.

People just hate that smokers have an alternative so have to be dramatic about it.

it really upsets me when I see young kids vaping because it tastes like sweets. Or five year olds in work saying they have used mums vape . Or when I saw my (at the time ) one year old nephew running round his lounge with dads vape in his mouth copping him and other adults laughing.

your an adult though and can do as you please. So long as I don’t have to smell the stinky stuff lol

Not quite on-topic, but I have lost 39 pounds since January with a new eating and gym regime and I have had a few incidences in the gym of people (not staff) offering unsolicited advice on my workout. Some folks can’t help themselves. The best option is not to engage. Ignore. Make no further eye contact.

I’d just let them finish and then say, deadpan, something like “well, it was this or crack cocaine and the Trustpilot reviews for my local dealer were shit, so vaping it is.”

Which are all lovely things, right? That we want wafted around us in clouds of unhygienic steam.
