I've currently got a large tub of Sudocrem propping open my sliding sash window because it won't stay up on its own!

Must look delightful to passers by.

Has anyone got any other suggestions on how to multi purpose things?

Cheap plastic dustpan and brush. Brush is the best tool ever for cleaning a bath, pan perfect for scooping up Lego.

We have a spatula in the toilet used specifically for scraping poo off the cloth nappies.

bagforlifeamnesty · 15/06/2023 01:58

We have wooden spoons in the bathroom that my DDs use in the bath to pretend to be their oars to “paddle their boats”. Guests are often v confused as to why we have cooking utensils by the bath tub 😬

I use a large wooden coffee scoop to portion out my washing powder, exactly the right size, works a treat.

I use a specific old calpol syringe to remove splinters

I use plastic kitchen tongs to get stuff high up that I can't reach

If I was more intelligent I'd put it somewhere I could easily reach

A pestle and mortar makes a very good door stop.

Catsmere · 15/06/2023 02:51

A leftover piece of dowel (the main part braces my wardrobe’s sliding door closed against feline incursions) I use as a back scratcher.

A 1960s record cabinet now holds DVDs and acts as a television/DVD player stand.

A moving blanket hangs on the wall as sound insulation.

A couple of chair cushions act as padding jammed between the chair backs and the wall or bookshelves.

Our living room window keeps closing itself so we use a lid from a candle in a tin to prop it open.

Our dining table also seems to get used as a dumping ground for random stuff and the kids' bedroom floors are used for clothes storage it seems. 🙄

This has reminded me of another. Our kitchen windows are above our kitchen sink and I can shove them open but can't reach the handle to close them again, but I have a colander with a nice long handle that I can hold upside down and use the "bowl" of the colander to catch the window handle to pull it closed.

I also have an extendable window cleaner spongey thing that I keep in the bathroom for any time the ceiling gets mouldy, just a spray of mould remover and sweep it over the ceiling and it's sorted.

I have a set of barbecue tongs that I keep handy next to the microwave in the kitchen. They are indispensable for picking this up high in cupboards or say the cheese biscuit tin you can use them to move it towards you when it is above a cupboard. Saves you climbing into a chair!

I use our redundant metal spaghetti serving spoon (no idea what to call it) as a back scratcher.

We were bought a mini blender for making baby food.

It was the perfect size for making marinades.

Mam has a bright set of plastic utensils in the bathroom for my nieces! So many uses oars, splashing, weapons.

How does the calpol syringe work for splinters? Do you suck them out?

Crikeyalmightey · 15/06/2023 07:53

I use a washing up brush to scrub the shower. Old bath towels in crikey dogs bed.

Wallpaper stripper for removing annual weeds in shingle

BreehyHinnyBrinnyHoohyHah · 15/06/2023 08:07

We keep an old credit card by the kitchen sink for getting off cooked on things from saucepans and baking trays. Use the edge as a scraper and it doesn't scratch the pans.

Cakeorchocolate · 15/06/2023 08:07

This week a variety of items as door stops - toilet roll holder (standing post one), dds bag of 2p coins, shoes, + more.

After seeing someone on mn say a potato masher for the kitchen window over the sink, I've done that a couple of times.

Iron filling container is a husbands shirt neck thingies holder and doubles as a spider catching pot when necessary.

Shot glass as cat-food measuring device

Dolls house as stationery cupboard

Hair brushes and wooden spoons as cat toys (cat’s choice!)

I use a permanent filter for a coffee machine to degrease stock.

JintyMcG1422 · 15/06/2023 08:13

We have a spatula wedged behind our shower head to stop it drooping and keep it at the perfect angle.

Fork to part kids' hair and an azera coffee lid to put on open cans in fridge.
