I've currently got a large tub of Sudocrem propping open my sliding sash window because it won't stay up on its own!

Must look delightful to passers by.

Has anyone got any other suggestions on how to multi purpose things?

I recently started using an old kitchen spoon as a back scratcher. It works great and I can reach tough spots I couldn't before. It's my go-to for some good scratch therapy.

I also use an ice cube tray for organizing jewelry.

Cork screw to pick a hole in the eggs before boiling
Play mat for kneeling down whilst gardening
Play mats for ground insulation when camping
Dolls house for storing books
Fork for scratching my back

Why do you put a hole in eggs before boiling? I’ve never heard of that.

Plastic shower cap over proving bread dough. Both in the bowl and the second rise in the tin.

Plastic mushroom trays in the under sink cupboard for all the cleaning gear.

Expired bank card to de-ice windscreen.

Enquiring minds want to know.

A staple remover (office equipment) to separate a keyring to get keys on and off.

hiredandsqueak · 15/06/2023 18:16

Being short I use the spaghetti spoon to get thing off of the top shelves. It's quicker than using the step stool that I bought solely for that purpose.

GameofPhones · 15/06/2023 18:59

The bendy poles that supported a cat igloo the cat wouldn't use turned out really useful for poking out things that fall behind/under furniture. Also I can use one to push around a microfibre cloth for small-space floor cleaning.

Pringle caps as storage jar caps (jars themselves were bought with food, eg jam etc).

Cat's radiator cradle (also rejected) serves as a cushion when filled with spare textiles (e.g. throws). Also made cylinder cushions using a yoga mat holder round spare textiles.

I use a one of those pink plastic scoops that came with a tub of Vanish laundry powder to dish out my cat's dry food. I buy the big 3 kg bags of dry food as she has to have a special diet, and I find the scoop is the ideal size to dish out just the right amount.

I use my circular hair brush as a back scratcher! It's got quite pliable bristles so is ideal.

A cocktail muddler for mashing avocado.

DontjudgeIHaveMyReasons · 15/06/2023 19:31

I use the potato masher to close my kitchen windows because I can't reach them.
Dh uses the bread knife as a back scratcher.

Lemuriformes · 15/06/2023 19:34

Also I love the chopsticks idea for kitten food pouches.

Sugar tongs to hull strawberries. Life changing!

I use a dessert fork.
I also use my old back scrub brush to clean my car wheels on the rare occasion that I actually wash it.
They also make better dog grooming brushes than actual dog brushes I find.

Unicorntastic · 15/06/2023 19:47

A washing up scrubber to clean the bathroom-easy to give it a quick clean after use

loft pole to close the bathroom window (Victorian high window)

toddler plastic cups for measuring out rice

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 15/06/2023 19:50

An old flat pillow under the mattress to prop up the dip.
A knitting needle to scrape all the dust and hair out of my Dyson vacuum and to push through those tight double knots in DS’s joggers to undo them.

Azzera coffee tin lids as dog food can covers.

Amazing thanks for this!

We have a long-handled ladle in the dog cupboard, which is used to collect dogs' urine samples. It has a bright red piece of string tied to it to make absolutely sure nobody mistakes it for our actual soup ladle! We also have a grabber that lives in the hall and is used to switch off our ridiculously over-sensitive smoke alarm, which goes off if you so much as think the word 'toast'.

How often do you need a dogs urine sample?!

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 15/06/2023 19:58

Ladel to close too high windows.
Spaghetti spoon for a back scratcher.

Random789 · 15/06/2023 19:59

Trigger warning: Slightly sordid one coming.

I use a grapefuit knife to scrape a corn on my foot.
I bought a grapefruit knife because I wanted to be the sort of person who uses a grapefruit knife. But instead I am the sort of person who uses a grapefuit knife to scrape a corn on my foot.

I'd like to make clear that it isn't also used for grapefruit.

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 15/06/2023 19:59

Ooh! A fork for a knot loosener. Push the prongs into the knot and wiggle.

Our living room window keeps closing itself so we use a lid from a candle in a tin to prop it open.

Our dining table also seems to get used as a dumping ground for random stuff and the kids' bedroom floors are used for clothes storage it seems. 🙄

Nods sagely, oh yes the floordrobe stage.

I remember it well.

I've been known to use a DVD case on it's edge for the same reason 👍

Royalbloo · 15/06/2023 20:05

I saw a tip and now use it all the time.

Use a large whisk to get hard and soft boiled eggs out do the pan - just push and the egg goes inside the whisk!

Royalbloo · 15/06/2023 20:05

Store wrapping paper rolls inside wellies, it actually works!

VikingLady · 15/06/2023 20:05

I used to keep a big plastic whisk by the bath to froth up the bubble bath for the kids' baths because our water pressure is awful. I use a shower attachment now instead.

I used a dedicated pair of silicon kitchen tongs fit reusable nappies.

DD used a plastic spaghetti server as her favourite cuddle toy for at least a year! It went everywhere with her!
