I've currently got a large tub of Sudocrem propping open my sliding sash window because it won't stay up on its own!

Must look delightful to passers by.

Has anyone got any other suggestions on how to multi purpose things?

I store rolls of wrapping paper in an old suit carrier, hung up in a cupboard.

Me too sieve handle for window in kitchen

Ah now I use the potato masher for this. It’s very effective!

Oyster knife for most diy jobs. Sturdy.

Missingthegore · 15/06/2023 11:01

Gu pots for hair ties on the bathroom counter
A decorative plant pot for my desk pens etc.
A hallway table as a TV unit

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/06/2023 11:07

A spray bottle for plants, used instead of the steam iron function, for over-dry clothes. Infinitely better.

Cheese slicer/parer as a vegetable peeler - always sharp.

My DH does the opposite and uses the potato peeler to slice cheese.

I was very close to starting a thread asking how people store wrapping paper. Interesting idea, thanks.

That’s inspired. I’m stealing that idea.

How odd,I was using a large tub of Sudocream for the same purpose until Tuesday when DP replaced it with a tin of varnish.

Fork to part kids' hair and an azera coffee lid to put on open cans in fridge.

I use the Azera lids as well. They also fit some little glass pots I have.

Also a whisk 🤣

Chopstick to poke hamsters to see if they're alive or dead in the mornings (both since deceased).
BBQ tongs to pick up ping pong balls.
The ubiquitous unbent coat hanger to poke and pull in large spaces and the unbent paper clip for smaller spaces.
Dolls house as stationery cupboard I now need a dolls house too, this sounds lovely.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 15/06/2023 11:19

A sieve and newspaper for when butterflies get in. Trap butterfly in sieve, slap newspaper over the top so it can't escape, shake sieve out of window.

Thanks Gettinglikemy mother, I just got all my stored linen and cotton tousers and jackets out and though clean they are wrinkled. I was thinking of just giving a quick rinse in the machine but your tip will make ironing easier. Only one I can think of is that I reused old sofa seat and back cushions to raise my mattress as I need to sleep with legs higher and hate being low down. Now I sleep like a princess.

I use the kitchen roll holder to grab the window in our kitchen.

A spaghetti picker upper on my work desk at home as a back scratcher. A wooden rolling pin in the kitchen to tap each end of the ceiling when dinners ready so DS both come down from their bedrooms.

spiderlight · 15/06/2023 11:25

We have a long-handled ladle in the dog cupboard, which is used to collect dogs' urine samples. It has a bright red piece of string tied to it to make absolutely sure nobody mistakes it for our actual soup ladle! We also have a grabber that lives in the hall and is used to switch off our ridiculously over-sensitive smoke alarm, which goes off if you so much as think the word 'toast'.

VapeVamp12 · 15/06/2023 11:26

When i moved house there was no space for my shoe rack near the front its now in my saucepan cupboard very neatly storing my saucepan lids!

Love the rolling pin. I had a friend whose mum used a whistle to call her kids down for tea.

Anotherselfemployedcleaner · 15/06/2023 11:28

Dog blaster dryer (like the one in the pic) has been repurposed to:

  1. Clean out or unblock vacuum wand/pipe
  2. Blow out cobwebs behind furniture too heavy to move
  3. Clear cobwebs and dust from neglected radiators (makes a bit of a mess at the time, but they’re squeaky clean afterwards)!

I use those ferrero rocher (12) boxes for everything.

I saw one at the natural history museum storing a sample 😁

Tothemoonandbackx · 15/06/2023 11:31

An empty coffee jar to store sugar for said coffee 😂

AppleCinnamonBagel · 15/06/2023 11:37

Empty plastic trays that mushrooms come in from the supermarket have tidied up my pasta/rice and dry goods cupboards. Any small spillages are caught by the tray and means you don't have to empty the whole cupboard to clean up said spillages. These trays are dark brown and thus not easily recycled so I upcycled them instead. 😇

I also use them to put my pots of tomatoes and herbs in for easy watering in the greenhouse.

DysmalRadius · 15/06/2023 11:38

I have a rolling pin on a piece of string in the hinge of my kitchen door that stops it from closing on my youngest's fingers!!
