I've currently got a large tub of Sudocrem propping open my sliding sash window because it won't stay up on its own!

Must look delightful to passers by.

Has anyone got any other suggestions on how to multi purpose things?

Chopstick to poke the hole in drinks cartons as the new paper straws just bend uselessly and don't go through.
Malt vinegar as weed killer so I don't poison the dog.
Flower pot as utensil holder on kitchen worktop.

Itcouldhappenabishop · 15/06/2023 08:17

Ooh forgot the washing up brush for cleaning the shower tray

MyMachineAndMe · 15/06/2023 08:29

A child's knife for scraping dog mess out of the grooves in shoes

An inhaler box as a phone stand even though I made something specifically for the purpose of holding phones

InTodaysNews · 15/06/2023 08:34

A wallpaper scraper for making stuffed pockets.

A wooden wine presentation box as a ' drawer ' in the kitchen cupboard to house packs of sauces, rice etc.

Plastic Chinese takeaway tubs to house spice jars, etc in the cupboards.

The dog as a waste disposal unit.

HowAmYa · 15/06/2023 08:35

Another one for child's knife. It's used for icing the 2 birthday cakes I make a year lol. Absolutely perfect for it though.

A music stand to hold recipe book. You can get purpose made stands but they take up space on the work top. Music stand can be adjusted to correct height and moved to wherever you need to be next

We have a spatula in the toilet used specifically for scraping poo off the cloth nappies.

Grim.

Carrusa · 15/06/2023 08:45

Amazing thread! Particularly loving the separate uses for dustpan and brush. My potato masher hack has already been covered.

Bins are useful. Small bathroom pedal bin by the cat's litter tray to store the scoop and poo bags. No poo ever goes in it, it's just to hide the clutter. And I keep rolls of wrapping paper, labels etc in a bin inside a wardrobe.

We have a single coffee spoon (tiny teaspoon) for reaching into spice jars.

redspottedmug · 15/06/2023 08:48

Wooden recipe book stand as a laptop stand (a lockdown improvisation I haven't changed).

A pointy bottle opener to release the seal on jars so the lid can be easily twisted off.

Decorative (but fugly) planters re-purposes for tomato plants.

Ladle to clear the gutters.

Random789 · 15/06/2023 08:57

Washing-up liquid for cleaning the bath and shower. Is much better than specialised bathroom products. Capitalism lied to me.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/06/2023 09:04

Ladle for closing the kitchen window and reaching tins off the top shelf.

Shot glass for measuring washing powder. They also have emergency egg cup properties.

Sugar tongs for grabbing olives out of a jar.

Cakeorchocolate · 15/06/2023 09:53

Books and a projector (in its box) as monitor stands in my office.

coxesorangepippin · 15/06/2023 02:25

I use plastic kitchen tongs to get stuff high up that I can't reach

If I was more intelligent I'd put it somewhere I could easily reach

😐

I use tongs as well but I now have a set of those grabbers belonging to my late mum which I forget I have and still use the tongs.

Azzera coffee tin lids as dog food can covers.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/06/2023 10:03

A GU dessert ramekin for my dogs water bowl (dog is v small breed)

Grim.

How is it grim? It's human waste going down the toilet.
I think it's a great idea, and much better than landfill disposables.

@Wrongsideofpennines carry on scraping 👍

QuietAmbiant · 15/06/2023 10:14

A small terracotta flower pot in the bathroom to hold toothbrushes. Was the only thing I could find with a drainage hole in the bottom.

Betsybee88 · 15/06/2023 10:14

I have sash windows and do exactly the same, I normally use a old hard back book to prop it open.
I use a cake tin with a removable bottom to cook stuffing and then I cut it and serve it like a pizza slice.
Those refillable pot scourers to clean windows, shower screen and tiles.
Hair ties as curtain/voile ties.

A leftover piece of dowel (the main part braces my wardrobe’s sliding door closed against feline incursions) I use as a back scratcher.

A 1960s record cabinet now holds DVDs and acts as a television/DVD player stand.

A moving blanket hangs on the wall as sound insulation.

A couple of chair cushions act as padding jammed between the chair backs and the wall or bookshelves.

We have a set square and a ruler positioned in front of our wardrobe doors to stop similar feline incursions!

I also used a spatula this morning to close an open window I couldn't reach in the kitchen.

Old credit card as a scraper for polyfilla.

I'm sure I'll think of more - I have repurposed many things over the years!

fourquenelles · 15/06/2023 10:19

Cheese slicer/parer as a vegetable peeler - always sharp.

NBLarsen · 15/06/2023 10:26

I've been using a spatula this week to put aftersun moisturiser on my back, in the middle where I can't reach. It works really well!

TeaAndStrumpets · 15/06/2023 10:26

I keep an old broad- bladed knife in with my washing powder. I use it to hack at the powder when it has gone solid in the box. Because the detergent drawer is tricky to reach under a deep worktop I use a makeshift chute cut out of half a plastic bottle so I can pour without spilling.

BTW of course you all know that when archaeologists excavate your homes in a thousand years or more these items will be filed under "ritual objects" 🤔

Agree. In fact that clever cleaning lady, Maxine on TV only seems to use washing up liquid, bicarb and white vinegar to clean everything and anything with great results. Seems you don't need all those trigger sprays after all. 🤔

TheDutchHouse · 15/06/2023 10:31

Butter knife as a screwdriver 😊

Helendegenerate · 15/06/2023 10:34

I always use lemon washing up liquid for bath and basin cleaning. Large pretty coffee mugs which have lost their handles are used to hold hair brushes and kitchen scissors (I have several pairs/sizes) as I can't bring myself to bin those nice mugs.
