To call neighbour and tell them to come home from work?

And let their sodding dog in?

Think terraced house, very small garden, one end has shade, so neighbour has sodded off to work and left their bloody yappy dog shut in the garden for the day!!! It has been barking for 2 hours now!! Aaaaaaaargh!!

OP posts:
GulesMeansRed · 13/06/2023 10:39

You don't need to give it free reign of the house and let it get on the sofas.

Right, so how do you do that? Shut it in a cupboard and let it trash the contents? Or spend your entire day following someone else's animal around your house?

Phone neighbour and tell them to get home and attend to their animal. If in an hour neighbour is not back, report to police.

Will they be out all day? I’m concerned for the dog- it’s already boiling hot today! It’s going to reach 27 degrees where I am. Is there much shade in the garden? Really irresponsible of them- poor dog. I would call rspca if they don’t respond to you.

27 degrees is not 'boiling hot'.

OP good on you for putting out some water. Your neighbour sounds like an idiot, but most dogs will be okay if there's shade and enough water. (Depending on the breed and health of the dog).

The noise however is a nuisance, I agree about contacting the relevant people about this.

AdoraBell · 13/06/2023 10:39

Don’t let the dog out if they have a gate. Report them.

She works 5 mins down the road in an office.

I have a feeling she will pop back at lunchtime (I hope!)

She still hasn’t replied to message (read it a while ago).

I would ring her office, as she CLEARLY hasn't read the message. Appalling behaviour, especially as this isn't the first time. It's not fair on her neighbours and more importantly (sorry) it isn't fair on the dog.

You wouldn't sit out in the garden wearing a fur coat in 27 degrees though.

Oh god here we go with the typical MN fur coat argument. Do a little research on animal fur.

Sunnydaysareuponus · 13/06/2023 10:43

Ring her office but don't ask to speak to her just leave a message. Then they can all know what sort of owner she is...

Most houses have these wonderful things called doors, which open and shut. In most houses OP could confine it to the kitchen, say, very easily. However as OP has said she wouldn't feel safe letting it in the house this is a moot point.

Betsybee88 · 13/06/2023 10:44

It's dangerous for a dog to be out in this heat.
Even my sun worshipping dog can only stand it for small periods of time.

Sparklfairy · 13/06/2023 10:45

Can you post on the local fb group 'innocently' asking who the local dog warden is or who could you contact? 'My neighbour's dog has been locked outside with no water in x degree heat <sad face>'

But dogs don’t WEAR fur coats though do they

MinionsHooray · 13/06/2023 10:47

Fucking selfish. I’d report the horrible bitch.

sweetdreamstenasee · 13/06/2023 10:48

i’d text ‘hi neighbour, wondering if you are coming home any time soon? dog seems in distress as they have not stopped barking, likely due to the heat’

Gettingbysomehow · 13/06/2023 10:48

Appalling, I'd love a dog but I don't have one because I work full time. So I have cats. They don't care if I'm there or not because they spend all day sunbathing.
People are just so selfish.

Namechange666 · 13/06/2023 10:56

Does it have adequate shelter in the heat or access to water other than what you have given it op?

If not then rspca might be in order. Can't stand people who get animals then refuse to look after them properly. Was it a lockdown dog?

Whichwhatnow · 13/06/2023 10:58

Oh that's awful. I lost my girl a couple of years ago but she suffered terribly from the heat, to the point I couldn't walk her when it got to these kind of temperatures. That poor dog, no wonder he's yapping! Absolutely call you neighbour

27 degrees for dogs that live in the UK is in the remit of potential heat exhaustion (they are similar to us in that they can adjust to their climate, so they don't do well when the weather peaks compared to average in the UK where we're more used to drizzle than sun!). I'd be worried for a dog's welfare being left outside in this weather.

Redebs · 13/06/2023 11:08

RSPCA won't be interested if the dog has water and shelter and is in ok physical condition.
Council will give you diary sheets and ask you to log incidents, although dogs barking in the daytime is considered low on the scale.

Dogs can be such an absolute nuisance. I feel for you.

I agree, my girl wouldn't cope with this weather. When I tried to walk her she would literally collapse if it was a temperature of around today's temperature

It depends on the dog breed/coat, some have better or worse resistance to heat.

Call the dog warden, if the barking is a regular problem check the environmental agency website.

I literally wrote 'depending on the breed and health' in my post. Did you actually read it?

ShandaLear · 13/06/2023 11:14

Record the dog howling, send her the recording, and say ‘Your dog is obviously really distressed. I have given her some water but her barking and howling is very upsetting to listen to. Do you have someone who can come and get her indoors at least?’

Dogs should not be out all day in that heat.

NoTouch · 13/06/2023 11:23

Shame her into responding. Phone her office reception and tell them that you are not sure if the dog has been left outside accidently in this extreme heat but it seems very distressed as barking/crying constantly. Tell them you have sent her a message, and tried to give the dog water as it had none, but she hasn't responded and you are concerned for the dogs welfare, could they get a message to her for you.

Figgygal · 13/06/2023 11:25

Given the heat id text her again and say if she doesn't come home and put the dog In.youll have to take advice from the police as a welfare concern.
They come out to dogs left in cars after all
