Is business class worth it with two toddlers ?

Would it make the journey better ? My DH absolutely refuses do go long haul with our 1 and 3 year olds.

Would flying business actually make it any easier ? The one year old would still be on one of our laps. The three year old would their own seat etc.

Has anyone done this ? It's so much more expensive and I don't want to do it, unless it will make a considerable difference.

I did long haul with an 18 month old and no tablet/devices and it was fine.

When I did the same journey with my 4 year old I gave her a tablet and enjoyed the free drinks.

It's fine to do economy with kids and like you I'd rather spend the money in something else.

I suspect if you just tell DH you dont want to do business due to cost so youd prefer not to go until the kids are older and then start looking up local camping trips he will change his tune.

To me it’s worth it. We always get business class for flights over 3hrs long. We fly often west coast to London (8-9hrs) and it’s a huge relief- my 4 yr old goes to sleep in the flat bed after take off and sleeps until we wake him for landing (red eye flight). During the day flight having all that space to stretch and sit with me or hubby or in his own breaks the long flight quite well and makes it more manageable.

Don't do long haul until they are older (unless you need to visit family). Short flights are bad enough considering the amount of equipment you need to take for that age group.
Also people in business are often traveling for business and may need to work on the journey or rest for a busy day ahead and have paid extra for peace and quiet

Most airlines won’t allow you to fly business/1st class with small children.

HermioneWeasley · 09/06/2023 18:40

Do you need to fly long haul? 3 business class seats will be horrendously expensive, and then you’ll have jet lagged toddlers.

??

EuripidesEumenides · 09/06/2023 18:42

Depends a bit on the airline and layout if it's long haul. The old BA yin-yang seat arrangement is ideal but with enclosed booths it's harder to keep an eye on two small kids.

Viewfrommyhouse · 09/06/2023 18:42

I flew with ds by myself for years from when he was 6 weeks old in Club, it was fantastic. Always booked him his own seat though, so we had 2 seats.

It's letting me book flights with their ages in there.. haha.

I definitely think that they can just say no sorry. Not the ones I'm looking at any way.

Which airlines won’t let children fly in first class/business class? That sounds unlikely

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/06/2023 18:43

When they are this age just do short haul.

Which are they then?
Can you name any?

Okshacky · 09/06/2023 18:44

I flown long haul multiple times with small children. Why wouldn’t you??

GoalShooter · 09/06/2023 18:44

I would say definitely not worth it OP. The added extras of business class will be lost on then!

cuckyplunt · 09/06/2023 18:45

It’ll be worth it to piss off all the other people in business class

I’m sorry but that’s not true. I’ve seen lots of young children in Business class but the few times I’ve flown first I was in the cabin on my own.

Kisskiss · 09/06/2023 18:46

I do it with my toddler ( under 2) long haul because they fly for free and it’s just much more comfortable for me… I have space for my toddler to sit /sleep next to me and crawl around and do whatever in the pod.

on one flight , I was sat next to a woman travelling alone, with a one year old on her lap and her 5 year old next to her and she did brilliantly , I was amazed ! So yes business class with infant plus toddler is worth it if you can afford it.. especially as the infant is free…

Glasshalffullorempty · 09/06/2023 18:46

Yes. No question

lafado · 09/06/2023 18:46

Please don't book buisness class with young children, it will be a nightmare for all the people who have spent more for a relaxing flight. Maybe arrange a private plane if you can't handle your children in economy.

Hahaha I honestly couldn't care less about other people. I'm just thinking whether it will be better for us or not even worth it.

I wouldn't go long haul with a toddler on a lap in economy. But economy with small children in their own seat is fine because obviously they're tiny so the seats are very spacious for them!

We flew to California in Feb, dc are 7 and 9 and it was their first long haul flight. They were so overexcited they didn't sleep at all on the way there. They did sleep the entire 10 hours on the red eye home though.

Don’t be ridiculous. I think you’ll find who people who regularly fly business class don’t give a hoot about who else is on the cabin with them.

I just googled it because I remembered a news story. It appears that Malaysia Air was the one that denied boarding to a mother with a child. I think a lot of people remembering that story + not regularly seeing children in first make them think they aren’t allowed.

I really don't care.
