Is business class worth it with two toddlers ?

muaa · 09/06/2023 18:21

Would it make the journey better ? My DH absolutely refuses do go long haul with our 1 and 3 year olds.

Would flying business actually make it any easier ? The one year old would still be on one of our laps. The three year old would their own seat etc.

Has anyone done this ? It's so much more expensive and I don't want to do it, unless it will make a considerable difference.

@muaa your partner seems logical and sensible, I hope they continue to have an influence in the children's lives. It can be very traumatizing for children to only have a parent who acts in their own interests at the risk of causing psychological harm.

Most airlines won’t allow you to fly business/1st class with small children.

Long may this continue!

PeloMom · 09/06/2023 19:08

🤦🏻‍♀️ can’t believe some of these comments.

  1. the most annoying and loud passengers I’ve encountered in business were adults. on my last flight there were 7(!) children in business (6 hr flight) ranging from baby to about 10 yr olds. Not one of them made a peep- they had a steady supply of snacks, huge screen to watch whatever they want and a comfortable seat.
  2. most travellers bring noise cancelling headphones. If they don’t have them, the airline provides them (at least the one I fly).
  3. planes are public transport - all classes. Except maybe when you fly in a first class suite where you close your door so doesn’t really matter who else is around.

I really don't care.

Book it 😁and come back to this topic just to update after your trip so all those ridiculous posters get their blood boiling.

Jesseweneedtocook · 09/06/2023 19:09

Go for it op!

Those above criticising you, I've come across many more badly behaved inconsiderate adults than I have children anyway. Children are just as entitled to fly business as adults. They're humans too!

Fly away, have a lovely time doing precisely what is best for you and your family.

FigAndOlive · 09/06/2023 19:09

OMG how is it traumatizing for a toddler to be on a long-haul flight? FFS, our generation is pathetic! My family lives oversears (12h flight away) and we took our 4month old on business class and it was bliss… We have a toddler now and although it would be more comfortable I have to say I don’t believe it will be worth all the extra money, I’m afraid!

cheddercherry · 09/06/2023 19:10

Absolutely wild that people are so against flying long haul with small kids. We’ve had amazing experiences by travelling long haul and I don’t see how it’s selfish in the slightest.

For the record my (then) 3 year old told me the plane was way better than the car (that year we’d done a 6 hour drive for a staycation as well as a long haul to Florida). Flying is so much easier when you can actually entertain them/ they can relax and sleep than been cooped in a backseat for hours.

User478 · 09/06/2023 19:10

I'd go economy but get an extra seat per child so you have loads of space. Spend the extra on G&Ts

Hesma · 09/06/2023 19:11

I did evening and it was absolutely fine

lafado · 09/06/2023 19:11

@Floppyelf go to YouTube and search child screams for most of 8 hour long flight. That will be the update.

JanesBlond · 09/06/2023 19:12

Isn’t business class normally 2 abreast instead of 3 - I’d check the layout of the airline otherwise you could end up split across rows.

Hesma · 09/06/2023 19:12

Did economy!

Lira715 · 09/06/2023 19:12

Check Seating plans .. a lot of business class seats are 2s which would mean one having the 3 year old and one having baby but sat next to a stranger .. I used to get looks of dread when I walked down the aisle to find my seat with a baby for a 8hr flight 😂 if you can get seating together in a row and it’s a night flight then it ll be worth it as they may sleep .. otherwise I’d not bother . Emirates do seats with bassinets for babies in economy and you have extra leg room too.

Nothingisblackandwhite · 09/06/2023 19:12

Yes if you can afford it then go for it . It’s completely different to economy

ThatFraggle · 09/06/2023 19:13

Selfish as fuck

WillyLows · 09/06/2023 19:14

lafado · 09/06/2023 18:57

@muaa so you admit people may have saved their whole lives for a trip and you think it's ok to ruin that for you to have a holiday with a 1 year old that is uncomfortable for a long time period, because they don't understand what is happening. All because you can't wait and want to fly around the world on holiday.

People could have saved for ages in economy. Or need sleep. Should people with young children not travel at all?

Traumatised must be never going anywhere because people like you can’t be bothered to parent ! My kids have been all over the world , they love traveling , it hasn’t traumatised them , it has opened doors

PollyThePixie · 09/06/2023 19:16

lafado · 09/06/2023 18:56

@PollyThePixie yes who cares about people that invested money to treat themselves, honeymooners and elderly couples having a retirement trip. Let's sit them all next to a crying 1 year old that's uncomfortable for 12 hours, so OP can have a holiday. Ruin everyone's day for OP because their partner has been reasonable and said long haul is not appropriate for their young children.

Have never experienced any of the above in 43 years of flying with numerous children and even more grandchildren.

But I did once have a child trapped in a toilet for more than an hour after an elderly lady collapsed outside the bathroom door and couldn’t be moved. Not that it has ever made me think the elderly should be prevented from flying in case someone gets trapped in the toilet.

Then there was as another time a fellow passenger died.

Children haven’t ever bothered me on a flight. And neither did the above. It was dreadful for their families though. It’s an aircraft. Things can happen. No one has a monopoly on having more peace and quiet than anyone else.

You’re being ridiculous.

justasmalltownmum · 09/06/2023 19:16

I have flown business with a 3yo whilst pregnant. It does make life easier.

I have also done economy with a baby and toddler. It was also ok, with a bassinet and extra leg room seat.

If money is not a problem go business.

Of course airlines will! They don't mind who is in the seats. We have done long haul with a 6 month old and 3 year old in business and first. Usually booked using Airmiles and companion vouchers. Having the extra space makes it much easier to travel.

My 3 year old slept on the red eye the whole way home from San Francisco. Made the flight go quickly for them but took them ages to get over the jet lag as they were still on west coast time.

lafado · 09/06/2023 19:16

@WillyLows this isn't a essential trip, OP wants to fly across the world for a holiday and ruin everyone else's journey and traumatize their children at the same time.

LegendsBeyond · 09/06/2023 19:16

Leave it until they’re older. No one wants toddlers in business class. Surely you can wait a few years for long haul travel. It isn’t a necessity.
