Is business class worth it with two toddlers ?

muaa · 09/06/2023 18:21

Would it make the journey better ? My DH absolutely refuses do go long haul with our 1 and 3 year olds.

Would flying business actually make it any easier ? The one year old would still be on one of our laps. The three year old would their own seat etc.

Has anyone done this ? It's so much more expensive and I don't want to do it, unless it will make a considerable difference.

I think so. Can only speak for short haul but it was worth the extra: baggage allowance (both hold and hand) and early bag drop were two great perks. The airport was busy and the lounge offered some calm which was better for DS, he was also able to watch the planes. The staff were great and really looked after him.

This ^^

Maybe arrange a private plane if you can’t cope with being near children? Are you serious??

cuckyplunt · 09/06/2023 18:45

It’ll be worth it to piss off all the other people in business class

You seem nice.

lafado · 09/06/2023 18:49

@muaa you don't care about other passengers experiencing your misbehaving children on a flight, you sound like a really selfless person, definitely take a long haul flight and ruin everyone else's day.

SmartHome · 09/06/2023 18:49

I've been in BC on BA, Air France, Emirates and KLM and all had people with babies in.

What about premium economy as a compromise between cost and more space?

Kisskiss · 09/06/2023 18:49

lafado · 09/06/2023 18:46

Please don't book buisness class with young children, it will be a nightmare for all the people who have spent more for a relaxing flight. Maybe arrange a private plane if you can't handle your children in economy.

LOL. I hope you’re on my next flight - I’ll remember to scoot my toddler your way…😂

PifandHercule · 09/06/2023 18:40

Most airlines won’t allow you to fly business/1st class with small children.

Absolute tosh. I flew in business/club with multiple airlines with ds since he was infant.

StillWantingADog · 09/06/2023 18:50

i just can’t imagine going long haul with kids that age tbh. They might be ok on the plane but I have heard horror stories about young kids not being able to adapt to new time zones.
we went to portugal when ours were that age and that was stressful enough

if I’d paid extra for business (I will never be able to afford it tbh) I’d be mighty peeved to be sat next to a 1/3 yo tbh

I’m sorry but it matters not a jot that some passengers may be flying business for a relaxing experience. All that matters is that you can afford the ticket.

Why do you think the children will misbehave?

lafado · 09/06/2023 18:54

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz you think a 1 year old copes well with air pressure changes and an unusual environment? Flying long haul with a young child for no reason except OP wants a holiday is cruel and selfish.

muaa · 09/06/2023 18:55

@PollyThePixie indeed!

Children on planes can be annoying ( can, they're not always ). A person in business class doesn't have any more right to a relaxing flight than a person in economy.

Just because they paid more. It's all relative. Someone in economy may have saved their entire life just for that one trip. It is what it is. We all have to co exist with children and babies. Rich or poor.

Most airlines? Which ones?

lafado · 09/06/2023 18:56

@PollyThePixie yes who cares about people that invested money to treat themselves, honeymooners and elderly couples having a retirement trip. Let's sit them all next to a crying 1 year old that's uncomfortable for 12 hours, so OP can have a holiday. Ruin everyone's day for OP because their partner has been reasonable and said long haul is not appropriate for their young children.

Give over. Ds flew 7 hours+ from 6 weeks multiple times and was absolutely fine.

CrackerAndPudding · 09/06/2023 18:56

I regularly fly business and it never bothers me if there are young kids there. Once my seat is out, my wine is in hand and my headphones are on I couldnt care who is in the seat beside me! OP for me it would depend on the times you are flying, if they're not likely to sleep premium economy might be just as fitting for your needs.

lafado · 09/06/2023 18:57

@muaa so you admit people may have saved their whole lives for a trip and you think it's ok to ruin that for you to have a holiday with a 1 year old that is uncomfortable for a long time period, because they don't understand what is happening. All because you can't wait and want to fly around the world on holiday.

gogohmm · 09/06/2023 18:58

Premium economy is a good option, book the front row

yellowgecko · 09/06/2023 19:00

You need one of these

iBeleby Airplane Foot Rest, Inflatable Footrest for Kids to Sleep, Adjustable Height Leg Rest Pillow in Office & Home, Toddlers Travel Bed Box, Portable Travel Accessories for Long Flight, Car (1PCS) amzn.eu/d/dBBuoOq

Fly Premium for a bit of extra leg room. Much cheaper but a little bit nicer than economy!

Hahaha you’ve a serious chip on your shoulder! Why do you think those peoples experience is more important than parents plus child?

I’m flying long haul business class with baby soon. I’m ‘investing the money to treat myself’ - a more relaxing flight’ - more space, full bed, good service etc.

Hollyppp · 09/06/2023 19:02

We flew 12 hours to Mauritius with an 18 month old and it was okay. He just about fitted in the little baby seat bed thing.

I wouldn’t do economy with 2 toddlers personally because my husband has no patience whatsoever

Glasshalffullorempty · 09/06/2023 19:03

@lafado and that person with a 1 year old could be in exactly the same position as your elderly couple or honeymooner. They could also be like me and have had cancer (which still provides me with heaps of complications) and have had a miracle 2nd child which has shown how precious and fleeting life is. So if I can afford a holiday using business class (or even first), which I can, you can be damn sure I will use it if it suits my plans.

muaa · 09/06/2023 19:04

@Everywhereaquackquack it's like everyone else has suddenly got more of a fight to a more comfortable flight. Because we have kids, we don't have rights to comfort anymore. What a ridiculous attitude.

The poster who's shaming me for wanting to fly business long haul and coming up with all these scenarios of these poor people we will annoy. You don't even know our situation.. so pipe down.

OP posts:
lafado · 09/06/2023 19:04

@Everywhereaquackquack because it is selfish to drag young children into situations that make them uncomfortable and upset, it is traumatizing and cruel and if the only reason to do this is for the parent to have a holiday, then it's unforgivable.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 09/06/2023 19:05

@lafado I’ve sat near adults who are badly behaved, even in business (shock!).

Op is equally allowed to treat herself!

@muaa go for it, I think you’ll find less people on the actual flight hating you than you will on mumsnet.
