If you want perfect eggs then you have to weigh each egg and use an online egg calculator. Then I boil it to the second.

I'm actually intrigued as to how many calories are in the OPs salad 😅. I'm dieting using mfp and calorie counting. I diet slowly and healthily when I need to shift some weight. No food issues but I like to keep below a certain weight. That massive salad looks like it would be too high in calories 😭😭😭. I aim for 1300 to 1400 and loose a pound or a smidge more a week.

I don’t doing the actual salad bit because life’s too short to be worrying about calories in a lettuce leaf! But the rest of it comes in at around 750!

Guess the main stuff is the egg, chicken and hummus
Salad leaves and mushrooms are really low calorie. Pickled onions and gherkins are my fave for low calorie to add to a salad. Then you've got peppers, cucumber, tomatoes, loads of stuff

Hotcuppatea · 02/06/2023 17:37

Oh, I couldn't have eggs and hummus touching 🤢

Fizbosshoes · 02/06/2023 17:39

I can't imagine how big your fridge needs to be to accommodate a week's worth of MN approved quantities for a family.

But won't the massive salad fill up everyone for an entire day/week/month depending on how delicate you are?
I don't mind salad but I usually want carbs with it (actual potato salad - OK, fake chickpeas salad masquerading as potato - not ok)

BatonRed · 02/06/2023 17:54

I am in my fifties and have never made a salad as a main meal or ordered it at as a main course at a restaurant. Salads are merely side dishes to the proper food.

SatelliteStomper · 02/06/2023 17:55

This thread has made me hungry 😋

MeinKraft · 02/06/2023 17:58

Tomatoes are full of sugar OP, you'll get diabetes eating that!

MeinKraft · 02/06/2023 18:04

'Not that anyone on MN would ever eat fried rice, what with it being full of white carbs and twice cooked rice being guaranteed to cause food poisoning.'

Yes GrinGrin if you let the rice cook at all between the pan and your mouth you get instant food poisoning.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 02/06/2023 15:32

Because they're from the same animal?

Lots of people eat beefburgers and drink a milkshake, which isn't really different.

it is slightly different though isn’t it, milk and egg. In terms of their biological function. I can’t quite explain why it grosses me out, but it does. Like it’s unholy or something.

im not Jewish but it’s like the edict not to eat the lamb cooked in the milk of its mother - feels just wrong somehow.

now a steak with a fried egg on it - I’m all over that!

I could also do with reading this. I thought a Massive Salad was a substantial 'meal salad' so as well a normal amount of 'salad' and maybe roast sweet potato, it had something like a chicken breast or other protein, plus dip and dressing.

But it seems that it has to have large quantities of every different type of vegetable imaginable plus something like a slither of chicken.

What are all your fridges like? I eat nowhere near the MN recommended amount of fruit and veg and really struggle to get the modest amount I buy into the fridge and there's only two of us.

I can't imagine how big your fridge needs to be to accommodate a week's worth of MN approved quantities for a family.

I grow it all in the garden organically of course.

I generally waft around in a linen smock with a cath kidson trowel before arranging some pornograhic shape veg on a plate for lunch

EnglishMuffins · 02/06/2023 21:05

YABU for putting mushrooms in a salad 🤢

I have a large family/household and I run 3 large fridge/freezers. And come winter (where I live) I keep my house and my childrens homes/fridges stocked up with all the salad and Mediterranean veg I grow.

I’m glad you’re laughing. . But it’s true. I have a large household and my garden is where I spend most of my time in the winter. It’s a beautiful climate and for 5 months of the year I grow vegetables. And I do have 3 fridge freezers. One in the outside kitchen. One in the inside kitchen. And one in the kitchen/large pantry off the dining room. I also have two chest freezers. I buy meat and fish etc in bulk so for eg two whole lambs, a 45kg tuna fish, 20 kilos of prawns, a huge kingfish, half a cow, plus other bits and pieces. It’s just a different way of doing things.

MNChickenForAWeek · 03/06/2023 04:38

I'm not saying it's not true. It's peak MN.

k1233 · 03/06/2023 04:59

That's not a salad - this is a salad!

Salads shouldn't be all leaves. There should be heaps of yummy coloured things as well. I also love raw mushrooms in my salad 😉

k1233 · 03/06/2023 05:02

Helps if i add the pic!

It a necessity due to unusual/family circumstances.

Riapia · 03/06/2023 06:17

Size is OK.
It looks most unappetising. Everything thrown into a bowl and churned round.

StrugglingWeight · 03/06/2023 15:03

Not a single person unironically posting a massive salad on this thread has actually posted anything above a very very normal salad

If I am subjected to the words massive salad and heaps of veggies on every thread about food at least justify it with genuine massive salads.

LadyMuckingabout · 05/06/2023 10:24

Ha ha, some excellent bragtastic posts!!

Reminds me of chatting to a woman in the kitchen garden of a NT property. “Oh, I grow soooo much fruit and veg,” she breezed “I have to drive round donating it to friends and neighbours in the Range Rover.” In the Range Rover! Snort… such avital detail!
