Rainbows everywhere 🌈

Maybe I am being unreasonable. Not sure.

But I clicked on my linkedIn profile today and two massive rainbows stuck out at me! Looks like two of my previous workplaces have changed their logos to the rainbow flag.

Now, I'm in support of individuals wearing rainbow badges if they want to publically show they are allies of LGBTQ+ Even a few colleagues have put the rainbow on their email signature. That's cool with me.

But I don't know how I feel about whole workplaces replacing their company logo with a rainbow? Seems like rainbows are taking over the world.

I guess maybe it doesn't matter but I can't help but think it's a bit weird that whole institutions are now becoming activists and replacing their identity with rainbows which to me, makes a statement?

Not sure whether and what I'm being unreasonable about, but just wondered other people's thoughts really?

The fact you say sexual preferences really tells anyone anything needed to know about you bigotry

I really don't see how that's bigoted. LGB is about sexual preferences, surely?
A lesbian prefers a woman as a sexual partner.
A gay man prefers a man etc.
A bi person is attracted, sexually, to both men and women.

Isn't that the only reason someone would declare themselves to be L, G, or B?

Rapunzzel · 01/06/2023 21:52

Surely being trans is something quite different.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 01/06/2023 21:53

I’d have more respect for companies who displayed the rainbow on their logo in countries where LGBT people are criminalised & oppressed like Saudi Arabia or Uganda but astonishingly they don’t do it there.

their are puddles less shallow than faux corporate concern for the rights of LGBT people

Rapunzzel · 01/06/2023 21:55

And I'd say completely unrelated.

The first pride (the stonewall uprising) was initiated in part by a black trans woman. Along with many other trans activists - https://www.jcfs.org/response/blog/history-pride-part2

You’re entitled to your views but do not try to distort history to fit your narrative. Trans people have been part of pride from the beginning.

This 'trans woman', didn't know he was trans whilst he was alive. Talk about distorting history. Crikey. He wasn't even there!

The ONLY reason these companies rainbow wash everything is to get Stonewall Points for their annual assessment. They aren't allies whatever that means.

June is pride month, as a lesbian woman it actually makes me smile a bit more to see the support from these companies. We are in 2023 and still myself and many others face homophobic abuse on a regular basis 🙁

How are all these companies actually supporting you as a lesbian woman?

AlisonDonut · 01/06/2023 23:34

Any of these companies changing their middle east logos, to show this support?

DdraigGoch · 01/06/2023 23:38

Sticking a rainbow on their company logo costs them very little, and they can pretend to be progressive without having to do any hard work like actually dealing with discrimination in the workplace.

JeandeServiette · 02/06/2023 01:59

It becomes meaningless when it's ubiquitous and semi-compulsory.

BaiesRosesAmbre · 02/06/2023 02:59

Absolutely in support of companies posting rainbows if it is genuine. But it’s mostly not. Just a way to show they look like they care when they don’t/haven’t taken the time at all to research.

I agree. When I see the pride rainbow it makes me feel a bit safer.

I don't think straight people understand how much homophobia we still face.

I agree with you both. Seems to be some thinly veiled homophobia on this thread too, how we’ve stolen the rainbow and we shove our gayness in everyone’s faces for (god forbid) a whole month 🙄. So what if there’s rainbows everywhere all June? If posters are so affected by it, maybe they should have a long hard look at themselves and think why?

It's not really astonishing. Pride month isn't even in all Western countries and logos in many stay same.
While I get what people mean, we can't really push pride month on every country. That wouldn't get me to respect them at all. It would make it worse.
But financing support would get a lot of respect from me and others

Thesunnymood · 02/06/2023 05:22

Plus to add they are in different months in different countries

GrammarTeacher · 02/06/2023 05:38

Some one mentioned Black History Month elsewhere in the thread. There are two different (that I now of, could be more) BHM with the US and U.K. doing them at different times.
I have a Peloton (I know) and they do curated rides for Pride, both BHM (the British instructors doing theirs at a different time) APIHM, Memorial Day, Fathers Day, both Mothers Day, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving, Christmas and others. Consideration is also given to who leads these classes as well.

CeriB82 · 02/06/2023 05:49

Rainbow for this rainbow for that. Rainbow baby (Ive only ever read that on here) rainbow bridge (again on here),

For me its a weather phenomenon. Nothing else.

I'd actually agree with the last point, I don't see the connection between LGB and T either and I know many LGB people who feel similarly.

I’m a lesbian & I hate pride month nowadays because it has fuck all to do with us. The rainbow flag & the alphabet soup have become symbols of homophobia.

LGB is about same-sex attraction. T is about prioritising gender identity over biological sex. They’re direct opposites. It’s ridiculous to lock them together, & that’s before even getting into the QIA+++ whatever.

Jordan Peterson talks here about bullying people into accepting identities.

It's not going well in the Middle East regards to negotiation of identities, where they share the Kathleen Stock and Eric Berne view that people are not born that way. Eric is a gay psychologist who wrote that conjunctures given by peers and adults, along with scripts in books etc along with CSA as you see with Trans is his hypothesis as to why he and others are gay. I think if I recall correctly a violent father and over bearing mother were other reasons, it's while since I read his work.

I have no problem with LGBQT etc or whatever else, but I do wish the rainbow hadn't become such a political symbol.
