Rainbows everywhere 🌈

FlipFlopsInMyCar · 01/06/2023 15:30

Maybe I am being unreasonable. Not sure.

But I clicked on my linkedIn profile today and two massive rainbows stuck out at me! Looks like two of my previous workplaces have changed their logos to the rainbow flag.

Now, I'm in support of individuals wearing rainbow badges if they want to publically show they are allies of LGBTQ+ Even a few colleagues have put the rainbow on their email signature. That's cool with me.

But I don't know how I feel about whole workplaces replacing their company logo with a rainbow? Seems like rainbows are taking over the world.

I guess maybe it doesn't matter but I can't help but think it's a bit weird that whole institutions are now becoming activists and replacing their identity with rainbows which to me, makes a statement?

Not sure whether and what I'm being unreasonable about, but just wondered other people's thoughts really?

It bugs me because it's virtue signalling unless they are actively trying to support people in everyday life, which is ongoing dedicated work.

It's a bit like Mainstream schools having cake stalls for Autism Awareness, when most do not meet the needs of autistic students and more high support needs students get segregated off into special schools.

@Thesunnymood you're right, sex, sexuality and gender reassignment i feel falls under the same umbrella though but yeah my bad

@TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening well sexuality is lgtbq and that's on the list so i don't understand what you mean

You do understand what I mean but you've answered my question exactly how you thought you would, thank you.

It’s almost as if actual facts aren’t important and reality depends on who’s reality it is

That just about sums it up.

Sausagenbacon · 02/06/2023 17:42

The odd thing to me is that it is nowhere near as common elsewhere in Europe. I didn't see one rainbow flag when I travelled through France, Austria and Switzerland last year.

that trans student gave a speech at that university
I love your attention to detail.

trans people have a right to exist
Nobody has ever said otherwise. Do please stop trotting this line out - it makes you look very silly and slightly unhinged.

"We exist/we want to exist" is both manipulative and disingenuous in the extreme.
Everyone exists, and will continue to do so until they die.

The meaning behind "we want to exist" in the context of gender ideology is "We want the rest of society to acquiesce to our belief system at the expense of reality and use the speech which we compel to validate our identities."

What's wanted is submission.
Existence has F all to do with it.

I haven't read all the responses but I can assure you there's plenty of us gays who are sick to death of Pride and want no part of that 'community'. This article captures my feelings.

That article sums it up perfectly.

MumblesParty · 02/06/2023 17:56

YANBU. Irritates me actually, and if I had a choice between using a rainbow-logo company and one without, I’d choose without. If institutions are going to publicise their LGBT stance, why not say their position on rights of disabled people, women, children, single parents, ethnic minorities, deaf people, blind people etc etc - the list is endless. Why is the LGBT population so much more worthy of support? It’s just a virtue signalling bandwagon.

@TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening a protected characteristic is something that is if a person has that characteristic then they aren't allowed to be discriminated against, some include, race, sexuality, marriage and yes gender identity, meaning that they have a right to protection and cannot be removed from a workplace or an institution based on that characteristic, ie when so many people last year were annoyed that that trans student gave a speech at that university and said that they shouldn't have been allowed, well legally they couldn't stop them

I see someone has already pointed out that you are wrong about gender identity being a protected characteristic. You are also wrong about 'sexuality'. The protected characteristic is Sexual Orientation and is defined as being sexually orientated towards people of the same sex, people of the opposite sex or people of both sexes - i.e. being homosexual, heterosexual or bisexual. This is important because 'sexuality' can include all kinds of kinks and fetishes which are not, and should not be, protected.

so many people last year were annoyed that that trans student gave a speech at that university and said that they shouldn't have been allowed

What are you referring to here please?

I had to actually leave the room in a women’s group because a male bodied person was wittering on about his periods that “Happen every three days” they are also “Lesbian” in their mind as they are attracted to women.

This person speaks over the actual women and their favourite term is “ Transphobic”.

This person was asked to leave a vulnerable women’s group elsewhere for showing porn to a woman.

Women want to exist without male bodied people boorishly entering our spaces, mansplaining what it is like to suffer “ Periods”😤

Verv · 02/06/2023 18:50

@oakleaffy absolutely.
I've had a TIM insist that lesbians should think of his penis as a birth defect "like a cleft palate".

It's homophobic nonsense like this that has so many LGB people going back into self imposed closets and meeting in secret/private groups again.
"Progressive and inclusive" has sent us back 80 years.

Not to mention moderate society getting to sick to the back teeth of the encroaching into womens spaces/targetting children etc which creates ill-feeling towards the LGB because every time someone says something faintly sensible/critical the offense of the "LGBTQ community" is invoked to shut them down and silence.

We aren't a community. We need a divorce.

Verv · 02/06/2023 18:51

The only issue I have with this is that it's quite frankly just pr for most of these companies. No actual care

This. It's mostly just jumping on the bandwagon to make more money.

CountZacular · 01/06/2023 15:39

I would be a more willing to accept companies shoving rainbows on their logos and doors when they show the same level of virtual signalling support to disabilities.

Completely agree

Could’t agree more with what you say.

You put your points of view across in a very articulate manner.

The poster on here who suggested that I “ Hate” Trans identified men is wrong.

I don’t “ Hate” anyone- I just wish they’d respect women’s spaces and sports and would stop the assertion that people can change sex-
That is just not physically possible.

The fantasies around having periods is annoying, too.

Trans identified females don’t seem to be as threatening to Gay men.

my daughter was met with a stonewall (ironically enough Grin) when she asked the leader of the diversity team at her Uni why they never do anything to support, champion or highlight the struggles of the University's many autistic (top RG stem heavy uni) students. Lots and lots of highlighting of trans issues though, ad infinitum...
