Kids screaming in garden next door!

WorkHardPlayHard1 · 01/06/2023 11:17

So for the 5th time this Spring/Summer, the kids next door are playing happily and very loudly in the garden next door directly into the open door of my kitchen.

I really like the adult neighbours (their parents) and really don't want to fall out with then.

Any suggestions of how to approach this as can't bear the idea of a full Summer of screeching kids! They are 10 and 7! 😬

To all the parents who manage to have kids that don’t scream send some tips my way.
I think this is absolutely crazy.
kids scream it’s what they do whether anyone’s going to tell me different.
move house to the middle of nowhere

It’s always hair washing, isn’t it?!

”My eyes!! Mummeeeeee!! It stings! Water is too hot, no I meant too cold.”
occasionally I think “fine, have dirty hair! What do I care?” 🤣🤣

We have two young teen boys next to us who are out playing basketball a lot. I honestly just think how nice it is that they're not inside on screens all the time

It is really annoying. Screaching kids are the worst.

Wait . . . Have I missed something?? Nobody has commented on how intolerant the UK is when it comes to kid noise.

Damn. I've checked off 'noise cancelling headphones', 'move to the country' and thought I was on my way to a MN full house. 😂

Seriously, op, just ask them politely if they can calm things down.

I've introduced some of the neighbour kids to Slipknot by blaring it with the windows open during their screaming matches and fights. I'll have them singing along to People = Sh!t in no time!

Your poor kids

What so it's bad parenting to teach your children consideration for others?? I was the same, 2 boys, happy to let them play out and be kids but screaming and shouting at the top of their lungs = not ok!!
The problem is when you're expecting the noise you're almost waiting for it and it can seem much worse than it is. At the end of the day excessive noise can and does affect the enjoyment of your home and garden. I'm in exactly the same position and am trying to move! As we speak I have next doors kids kicking their football onto my lean to roof (on purpose). I just wouldn't of let my kids behave that way but I guess some parents don't care!

Your poor kids

Kids being brought up with manners and consideration for the environment they live in.
How rude.

If they polish you can use „POLISH REMOVER” 🤣

I know this is an old thread, but I needed to comment. The people saying just let kids be kids, either just let their kids do as they please or their kids are also screamers, or they dont live next door to a kid that screams in the garden for 8 hours a day. I have absolutely no problem with kids playing outdoors and having fun, but the high pitched screams because they are fighting with their sibling constantly gets wearing. Why should people have to shut doors or wear headphones because a neighbour is being inconsiderate. Children also need to learn that they are part of a community and their actions can affect other people. My children always played outside when they were younger, but they knew if they screamed they went indoors. They soon learnt. And I do understand some children use screaming as a way of communication, but when it's used to get their own way, its quite different. Personally, I have PTSD and I am neurodivergent, so for hours every day I am in flight or fight because it sets me off. Even if you think you known your neighbours, yiu probably dont have a clue what affects it may have on them. And please dont tell me I should move, or wear headphones etc, because people shouldn't have to uproot their lives because of inconsiderate behaviour. And just a final point, we live in a close with a lot of children, who run, cycle and scoot down the road, and they are definitely not quiet. I really dont mind it. If i am outdoors they will chat to me and bring me flowrs. BUT, the difference is, any behaviour that is getting a bit out of hand, those kids are told off by their mothers.
