Kids screaming in garden next door!

WorkHardPlayHard1 · 01/06/2023 11:17

So for the 5th time this Spring/Summer, the kids next door are playing happily and very loudly in the garden next door directly into the open door of my kitchen.

I really like the adult neighbours (their parents) and really don't want to fall out with then.

Any suggestions of how to approach this as can't bear the idea of a full Summer of screeching kids! They are 10 and 7! 😬

OP posts:

I understand perfectly, but this particularly poster is whinging about everyone……. She’s the common denominator and not sure noise pollution is caused by people enjoying their gardens.

OP has not posted anything more than her first post, which mentions screaming and screeching (also that they're happy and it's only the 5th time this season), from her immediate neighbours, not everyone.

I know that OP hasn’t posted since her first post? What’s the relevance of that?

I was talking about the poster that I’d previously tagged and answering a subsequent message.

That poster was moaning about

Children
Adults
tradesmen

saying it was noise pollution and could cause I’ll health.

If you bother to look at my quotes, you’ll see who I meant.

Oh I see - I took your comment out of context (you have to click on 'See more' to see the full quote history, which is sometimes ridiculously long).

I understand now, though I'm inclined to agree, it's annoying enough (though something you just have to accept) if your neighbours are having work done, but to listen to (usually terrible) radio for the duration is anti-social IMO. I am sure if tradespeople are employed there would be something in their contact that states their work should cause minimal disturbance to others.

Home cinema - I agree. In a build up area, not all your neighbours should have to listen to you and your mates watching Dirty Dancing.

I live in an area where most people have children so it’s often noisy. Yes, kids (including) mine do occasionally screech and scream. That is fine. A house a few doors down has 2 small children who make horrendous noise. They’re screechy and they squeal and wail when they’re fighting and let me tell you, they are often bloody fighting and crying! It’s pretty horrible to listen to. I wouldn’t dream of complaining or saying anything but it is very irritating.

Lots of trades people are employed! Lots of building companies employ people.

you can think and IMO all you like, but I doubt you’ll get anywhere with either home cinemas or radios.

it’s certainly not noise pollution as the PP said.

What I meant by employed was that they would be accountable to someone, rather than self-employed.
You're right of course, people will and do listen to radios loudly in their gardens.
Fortunately no one around me has a home cinema!

GameChanger54321 · 02/06/2023 16:37

@thelinkisdead I don't know how children talking loudly in their own garden, during the day, when they've already been banned from any sort of screeching/screaming and kicking their balls against the wall isn't slotting into society? From my view they're going above and beyond as children to keep it lovely for the adults.

Children are only children for a few years. Talking loudly imo isn't unacceptable behaviour when they're just having fun and in an outside space.

GameChanger54321 · 02/06/2023 16:48

@Tiddler39 no, because her children are only allowed to talk loudly 'at times' - in their own garden. I feel that's harsh.

When kids are having fun, excited and happy, they laugh and talk loudly, that's only natural surely? as most adults do too.

HauntedPencil · 02/06/2023 17:11

Why are people going on and on about incessant screaming from the OP when it's five times. If this was a different thread about kids that went out at the crack of dawn and literally screamed all day, then obviously, people's responses would be different

As a PP listening to kids fighting screaming and crying is a different issue. These kids, as per the OP are playing. Happily, yet noisily. My neighbours have visitors right now and are out there I've got my doors open and I can hear them. Shall I go out and hose them down? Scream?

FIVE times this year. MY LORD.

Sorry I forgot you know all about my kids’ garden behaviour 😂 Maybe I just have better kids than you? I don’t remember saying I have banned them talking loudly, but there is an enormous difference between screaming and normal, excitable kid conversation. Mine are pretty calm kids who get on well with each other playing nice games, but I guess we can’t all be perfect 🤣😘

GameChanger54321 · 02/06/2023 17:46

@thelinkisdead oh no the 😘 faces are out, my opinion must really be rattling you! I said nothing about you banning them from talking loudly. You said that screaming is absolutely not allowed and that talking loudly is fine 'at times'. I can only go by what you've commented? 😂 It's not my job to read between the lines.

Anyway, I'd rather sit there and listen to kids playing happily, talking loudly and even screaming right in my actual face than having to endure listening to you miserable and moaning lot whinging and whining.

I can assure you, your kids are no better than others……

put them and you on whatever pedestal you like!

I'm late to this, but 5 times this year? You poor thing 😂

I think the point was that she couldn't bear a whole summer of it and describing the last 5 times? So dreading a whole summer of it

bladebladebla1 · 03/06/2023 16:31

@Abracadabra12345 she needn't worry, summer is looking like a five min wonder this year anyways

SpeckledlyHen · 03/06/2023 17:30

I had a similar situation and eventually after 3 years and what I felt like a nervous breakdown over it we eventually moved. Turns out for many many reasons it was the best thing we ever did. All aspects of life are better weirdly, not just the location and quiet.

Did you move to somewhere without neighbours that could be heard?

Not here in the SE. And it's only barely the start of summer - beginning of June

bladebladebla1 · 03/06/2023 20:01

@Abracadabra12345 I'm in SE, it's a bit meh, but I meant from what I heard on the news when they said it was looking like it might be a wash out

Oh yeah, they always get the weather right, especially 6 weeks in advance 🤦‍♀️

bladebladebla1 · 03/06/2023 20:09

@Billyho crikey, I'm not gonna get into an argument about the weather. Rock bottom. Night

BCBird · 03/06/2023 20:12

I hear you OP. So kids want to play- fine but why should you have to listen to screeching. We should be considerate. I wake 5ish but would not get mower or vacuum.cleaner out as I would not want to annoy my nieghbours. It up to parents to direct the kids re consideration.
