Where did you go Honeymoon?

We are getting married next year and trying to pick a place to go on honeymoon. We can’t agree on a destination.

My partner wants to do the USA (New York and then a internal flight to Miami) and I would like to do Thailand or Bali. Honeymoon is/would be in June 2024 so thailands rainy season which kind of rules it out.

Where did you all go on honeymoon ? And would you recommend it….

We have to take our 2 kids so must be family friendly. (age 12/10)

Bridlington in a touring van with my MIL and FIL. Can’t say as I’d recommend it 😂

RainbowRuby · 22/05/2023 12:40

Honeymoon: Sri Lanka - this was right after a truce had been called on the civil war and the political situation was fairly stable. Beautiful memories - food, people, weather, landscape. Bali: We recently did a family trip with our 2 kids - age 5 and 7. Fantastic holiday esp for kids, lots of beach/hiking activities. Would recommend if you are able to go for 7-10 days. New york - have always done it as a city break so it all depends on what you want to be doing on your honeymoon.

North Norfolk. Three nights camping with toddler DD then two nights just is in a boutique hotel.

It wasn’t Bali. But we were young, broke, very in love ( still are!) and it was magical.

We’ve travelled the world before age since, but nothing will beat that.

Mexico, pre-DS, not sure what the weather is like in June but you could definitely combine Miami and Mexico

Sunshinesky1981 · 22/05/2023 12:42

we did New York, Las Vegas and Orlando. Was brilliant, but could have done with a holiday to recover afterwards

MrsSamR · 22/05/2023 12:43

We did Vietnam & Thailand but then this was in February!

runwithme · 22/05/2023 12:43

Brazil, travelled around. Not with kids, but ours would love it.

girlfriend44 · 22/05/2023 12:44

paris.

LabradorsByTheSea · 22/05/2023 12:45

If I was going with kids that age, USA is a great choice ( although expensive at the moment). Our favourite spots with similar aged kids are SF and Tahoe, Boston then Cape Cod, and Savannah then the Carolinas coast.

bibbityboppityboo · 22/05/2023 12:45

NYC, Miami and Orlando! Loved it. Absolutely amazing; would definitely recommend. Fantastic weather too

I think it’s Sri Lanka’s rainy season in June so we ruled that out

but it’s Balis dry season so was looking to do 10-14 nights there…. I wasn’t sure if there was enough for the kids though. I read it’s the Australians version of magaluf so it’s put me off a bit.

We went to Tunisia. Good quality hotels, lovely food if you avoid the hotel buffets, and plenty of sites to visit. We've been to Bali and Thailand, both of which were lovely.

ScarletWitchM · 22/05/2023 12:47

We went to Miami but did it before the wedding as a chill out and then a four day Cornwall break after the wedding

ToBMarried24 · 22/05/2023 12:48

We have already been to Mexico, Disneyworld, Orlando, Egypt, Spain, turkey, Paris, Amsterdam, Prague together so they are all ruled out as I like to try new places.

Some great ideas coming through. I’m going to write them down and look some of them up!

safari in kenya followed by a week in Zanzibar.

my kids are now the same age as yours and I would love to take them on Safari. Not sure they’d like Zanzibar though- very couples-y though I think there are more family focussed hotels.

Nordicrain · 22/05/2023 12:49

Zanzibar. We had a night in stone town and the rest in a fancy resort. I didnt' really love it, stone town was amazing but the resort could have been anywhere in the world. Plus we had had a destination wedding with lots of family being difficult so we were absolutely shattered - in bed by 9 every night and not in the good honeymoon sort of way!

I would LOVE Vietnam but for some reason it’s a firm no from my partner 😂

Barbados in July/August. We were there for the end of crop over/kadooment day and the festival parade was absolutely incredible

amusedbush · 22/05/2023 13:02

We did a "weddingmoon" (I know, I'm sorry! Blush) so booked a week in New York, got married on the third day and then spent the rest of the time eating, day drinking and enjoying the beautiful weather.

It wasn't our first visit though so no panic about trying to see all the sights.

Lake District for two nights in a B&B. When we arrived, we were dismayed to discover it was a family home in the middle of a housing estate and we were the only guests staying (no Internet in those days and it was named something like Ivy Cottage, which it most definitely was not) . Our bedroom, complete with twin beds, was accessed through the study which contained our "En suite". The dad of the family was working in the study all the time we were there and I had to walk past him to get to the shower etc. We mistakenly told them it was our honeymoon and while we were out they went in the room, pushed the beds together and unpacked our cases, laying out some fancy new nightwear I'd bought especially for our honeymoon across the bed, I was so embarrassed. The next morning the kids served us breakfast and basically climbed all over the table whilst we were eating it. We left after one night and booked into a proper hotel even though we were absolutely skint.

Sleepplease2021 · 22/05/2023 13:07

I haven't had a honeymoon - but I have been to America a few times with children and would definitely recommend. Have you thought of a road trip? We've done LA to Vegas and Phoenix way as well and the children have loved both. We do loads of stops and have seen some amazing places!

Oh god! Hope the rest of your honeymoon was better then your first night!
