Where did you go Honeymoon?

We are getting married next year and trying to pick a place to go on honeymoon. We can’t agree on a destination.

My partner wants to do the USA (New York and then a internal flight to Miami) and I would like to do Thailand or Bali. Honeymoon is/would be in June 2024 so thailands rainy season which kind of rules it out.

Where did you all go on honeymoon ? And would you recommend it….

We have to take our 2 kids so must be family friendly. (age 12/10)

Australia (pre-kids) - great weather in June for top end and Queensland. We were lucky to have a month off.

We went to the Dominican Republic as we thought we would want a really relaxing few weeks of doing nothing after a really hectic time. We were only young (22) and had already travelled a lot, usually to destinations with a lot to do. In hindsight it was a bad choice for us as we just don't suit sitting on the beach or by the pool for days on end. The area felt unsafe and they wouldn't let guests leave without an armed guard....you couldn't even wander down to the beach at night without security. It was roasting hot, like the burning the soles of your feet hot and I got food poisoning a week in. It was probably the worst holiday we've ever had 😂also the flight was delayed on the way home and we sat on the tarmac in the plane for 3 bloody hours

  1. Exmoor in a motorbike and sidecar.
  2. (Planned) Girona.

We had a few days in Rome, just the two of us, then took a ferry to Corsica where we were joined by DMum, DSDad and our DCs (who were 1 and 3 at the time). We stayed in a gorgeous villa with a pool and an annex for the oldies, and had a lovely time. Weather was perfect, childcare was shared!

Not sure there would be enough on Corsica to amuse older kids, but it worked for us.

First one, Prague, but that was before it turned into a bit of a stag/hen thing.

Second one, Isle of Skye, books, wine, log fire, heaven. That was pre kids tho.

id recommended riviera maya in Mexico, just a bit lower than cancun so you don’t get the party party vibes. Fantastic for kids too

Singapore, Bali and Lombok. Not with kids. It was beautiful and I didn’t find Bali tacky but we were staying in a relatively posh part. The beaches were fantastic. We did some lovely excursions, boat trips etc.

CointreauVersial · 22/05/2023 13:14

And DD1 took her first ever steps beside the swimming pool.....

HorribleHisTories15 · 22/05/2023 13:14

Tahiti, the Caribbean on a cruise and then LA! We took about a month off from work.

shopes · 22/05/2023 13:14

We did a road trip from Seattle to LA.

Seattle, Washington State Fair, whale watching in Oregon, Redwood National Parks, San Fransico, Yosemite, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Santa Monica and finally LA .

It was fantastic!

HappiDaze · 22/05/2023 13:15

Don't go to Bali

DiscoBeat · 22/05/2023 13:16

We did a tour of the Greek Islands, it was really lovely.

Of your choices I would recommend Thailand as the level of service there is out of this world, and value for money so much better than NYC which is expensive. In Thailand you might be able to afford 5 star luxury with amazing service, but in NYC the same budget will afford you a small 3 star room at best.

There are some stunning hotels on Koh Lanta.

luckylavender · 22/05/2023 13:18

Also Sri Lanka. October 1991

Hbh17 · 22/05/2023 13:19

Venice & Rome. No kids. But loved both places, and been back multiple times since.
If you wait until the school summer holidays, it would be a perfect time to go on safari in South Africa, which was the best holiday I ever had - go as expensive as you can, you won't regret it.

Asiatoyork · 22/05/2023 13:20

Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

June is trickier in Asia if that’s where you fancy, but there are options. Bali but also heard good things about Lombok. S Korea. Borneo and the eastern side of mainland Malaysia are options.

RoseyLentil · 22/05/2023 13:20

Cottage in Cornwall for a long weekend. It was lovely. Definitely recommend.

Huhsaywhat · 22/05/2023 13:21

Maldives in June/July. Technically it was rainy season but in 14 days we only had one day of heavy rain.

LittleLlama · 22/05/2023 13:21

Dubrovnik in Croatia, beautiful historical city with lovely small islands just off the coast with relaxing beaches and fabulous seafood. We had great weather and overall had an amazing time. Probably a lot more touristy now thou.

Same, month in Australia pre-kids. We toured around and it was magical.

Seeline · 22/05/2023 13:23

We drove round Iceland.
Nearly 30 years ago before the hoards had discovered it. Beautiful.

Allschoolsareartschools · 22/05/2023 13:26

Cyprus for a fortnight in a really lovely, brand new hotel but it was miles & miles from anywhere. Sounds idyllic but was quite dull. Dh could literally not move from the pool for 2 weeks but I was really bored after a week!

RainbowRuby · 22/05/2023 13:26

@ToBMarried24 Definitely lots of Aussies in the resorts. Heard Kuta has more Australian visitors. We stayed in Padma Legian, which had great kids activities within the resort. Outside the resort had to hunt around a bit to get the right activities but did enjoy snorkelling, paragliding, banana boat. Then we also went up north to Ubud - white water rafting and hiking activities. In between activities - lots of massages and lounging around the pool.

professionalnomad · 22/05/2023 13:36

Slovenia - absolutely gorgeous and heaps to do especially with kids
Also just came back from the Seychelles with a 2 year old and she loved it!

LabradorsByTheSea · 22/05/2023 13:40

professionalnomad ooh! We are off to Slovenia this summmer with DC aged 12 and 14 and I can’t wait. Already booked the ziplines and horse riding at Lake Bled. Any other recommendations would be appreciated!
