Where did you go Honeymoon?

We are getting married next year and trying to pick a place to go on honeymoon. We can’t agree on a destination.

My partner wants to do the USA (New York and then a internal flight to Miami) and I would like to do Thailand or Bali. Honeymoon is/would be in June 2024 so thailands rainy season which kind of rules it out.

Where did you all go on honeymoon ? And would you recommend it….

We have to take our 2 kids so must be family friendly. (age 12/10)

Skye... in a tent.
We were so young and skint, a pub meal was a treat.
DH borrowed the tent from work and FiL bought us a tank of fuel.
We camped by the sea, the weather was glorious, and we had a fabulous time.

Paris 33 years ago. It was wonderful.

Loopyloooooo · 22/05/2023 13:43

What about Hawaii? Different enough to be special for a honeymoon but safe and easy-ish with kids. Could have a stop over in California to Canada for a few days.

Loopyloooooo · 22/05/2023 13:44

*or Canada not to!

SouthLondonMum22 · 22/05/2023 13:45

Caribbean Cruise. Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts etc and Portugal on the way back.

MsBubbles85 · 22/05/2023 13:56

We went to Grenada, end of November. We loved it!

princesslouloubananahammock · 22/05/2023 13:58

Hawaii..... highly recommend! So much to do and see!
Island hop, relax on beaches, hike, volcanoes, waterfalls.... love it. You can fly via a main US airport and do a few days else where either side . We did Vegas and San Francisco

DumboLives · 22/05/2023 14:02

Costa Rica for the beaches, wildlife & zip lines etc. not a lot of night life if you are into bars & clubs.

stormelf · 22/05/2023 14:03

4 nights in Bruges

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 22/05/2023 14:04

We went to Ireland ( The Ring of Kerry) which was breathtakingly beautiful but not sure there would be enough for your DC to do. If they like music, you can have some great nights in the local pubs & there are castles, stunning beaches etc. I would love to go back & tour around. We met a lovely lady in a bar one night & she asked “ Have you been to Galway? Get out of your fuckin’ beds & go”! Classic!

Devon, motorbike and two man bivouac tent... It rained. Not the best of honeymoons. 40 years later we can look back and smile.

pippapipps · 22/05/2023 14:17

Edinburgh really enjoyed it

Don't go to Bali

Why?

DappledOliveGroves · 22/05/2023 14:37

I would definitely go to Bali - just avoid Kuta (and particuarly avoid Kuta beach which is awful). Ubud was stunning, Jimbaran and Uluwatu were great, Nusa Dua was nice. DH and I went there pre-pandemic (not with kids) but it's definitely a nice place to travel to and great for children. Kuta is the crappy bit, so if you avoid that you should be fine. Just make sure you do your research before you go!

Sleepyteach · 22/05/2023 14:56

We went to New York, Niagara and Orlando (universal). I’ve got a big birthday in a couple of years and we are looking at either Vietnam or Borneo for that.

YorkHouse · 22/05/2023 14:59

The Cotswolds! It was amazing. In fact, so good we went back again the following year.

What I hadn't thought about in advance was that a wedding day is pretty full on - lots of talking, mingling, smiling (my cheeks actually ached by the end of the day!) - and it was a relief having an easy drive to honeymoon the next day. The last place I'd have wanted to go was an airport and then onto a flight.

mondaytosunday · 22/05/2023 15:00

Belize via Miami. I don't recommend Miami. Belize was great but not sure about family friendly- it was romantic for sure!

cptartapp · 22/05/2023 15:00

The Maldives. Loved it.

instantpotnoodle · 22/05/2023 15:00

USA - California and Hawaii. Had an amazing time, loads to do, good food, super active/outdoorsy.

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMe · 22/05/2023 15:05

Wouldn’t recommend Bali - we stayed in a beautiful hotel but all complexes and out the way. For the extra flight time I would go to Australia for a family adventure.

Plan is to have a few days between the wedding and the honeymoon.

I couldn’t imagine jetting off the very next day!!

Bridlington in a touring van with my MIL and FIL. Can’t say as I’d recommend it 😂

@LabradorsByTheSea
Recommend hiring bikes and cycling around Bled, SUP at Bohinj, driving the vrisinc pass (lots of great hiking) and a rafting trip on the Soca. We got there from Bled via car train! Amazing journey. We also loved Piran.
