Where did you go Honeymoon?

We are getting married next year and trying to pick a place to go on honeymoon. We can’t agree on a destination.

My partner wants to do the USA (New York and then a internal flight to Miami) and I would like to do Thailand or Bali. Honeymoon is/would be in June 2024 so thailands rainy season which kind of rules it out.

Where did you all go on honeymoon ? And would you recommend it….

We have to take our 2 kids so must be family friendly. (age 12/10)

Borneo. Very cool.

booboo24 · 22/05/2023 18:58

Dominican Republic, but this was 25 years ago and it was unspoilt. We were only 21 but they were so lovely with kids of families that were there and it was virtually crime free (back then)

West Coast of America - road trip, Laguna Beach, LA, Las Vegas, Santa Barbara, Carmel & San Fran.

ToffeeForEveryone · 22/05/2023 19:05

Another vote for Hawaii (Maui!) with mainland US stops either way.

We went to Rome. Simple and lovely (despite that other thread). I have however been to 63 different countries so it wasn’t a ‘trip of a lifetime’

FluffMagnet · 22/05/2023 19:14

Skiing in Austria (slightly delayed honeymoon). DH managed to break himself badly a few days in and spent the rest of the trip in hospital, whilst I made the most of the lovely spa chalet hotel (not trusting myself to follow him into hospital if I went on the slopes - it was horrifically icy). Honeymoon Mk II on our first anniversary was to Sri Lanka - absolutely amazing. Probably not the safest to visit right now though.

So - both of my options are undoubtedly out for you! I would recommend having a slightly delayed honeymoon though as it gives you something to look forward to after the wedding comedown.

Not where I went on honeymoon, but I'd really love to go to Costa rica with the kids. Not sure about weather though...

MinnieMountain · 22/05/2023 19:19

Walking in the Austrian alps and a few days in Munich. 3 months later we went to Fiskardo in Kefalonia, so I consider that Honeymoon Part II.

Costa Rica was on my list but my partner vetoed it 😅

South Africa and Mauritius. We started in Cape Town then drove to the wine region then along the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth. From there flew via Jo’burg to safari. Finished off with a week off n the beach in Mauritius.

Five days at a 5 star hotel in St Jean Cap Ferrat in October. Fabulous - no tourists, not too hot, very romantic.

Why? CR is amazing

33goingon64 · 22/05/2023 20:19

We did a week's tour of some French wine regions straight after the wedding which was just splendid. Then in the autumn we went to Tanzania for a week's safari then a week in Zanzibar. Safari was amazing. Zanzibar was a bit meh.

HungryandIknowit · 22/05/2023 20:20

Peru (may not want to go now due to the political situation) and the Galapagos. Was wonderful.

LadyWiddiothethird · 22/05/2023 20:22

Bridlington in a touring van with my MIL and FIL. Can’t say as I’d recommend it 😂

Brilliant! 🤣
We went to a B and B In Bournemouth where we were asked every morning if we wanted flakes or juice for breakfast

newmumtotwo24 · 22/05/2023 20:26

Camping in Americas national parks: Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Yellowstone. Then flew to Mexico for four days in a fancy villa to relax

SBAM · 22/05/2023 20:26

China.
We didn’t go immediately after the wedding, we waited a couple of months to get better weather.

Two week trip, flew into Beijing, spent 3/4 days there, then flew south to Hangzhou for a few days, then took the train to Shanghai for a few more days then flew home.

The food was amazing, the tourist sights are beautiful and it’s so different from anywhere else we’d been together (but I had spent time in China before).

YouNeverSeeTheRealMe · 22/05/2023 20:28

Many years ago - 43 actually - Jersey (St Helier) for a week

tatteddear · 22/05/2023 20:33

Port Isaac. In January. Chilly but lovely as we were probably two of only 6 people in the whole village.
Was all we had time for. Planning on a 'proper' honeymoon next year some time.

weegiemum · 22/05/2023 21:32

Austria, new year 1994/5. Few days in Vienna, then a couple of days skiing in Innsbruck. The new year celebrations in Vienna were fantastic.

Bananas2 · 22/05/2023 21:39

We went to Mauritius for our official honeymoon but we found it quite boring so we did a redo the following year which was amazing. We did San Francisco, Monterey and the Big Sur, Yosemite National Park, Death Valley and Las Vegas. I think older kids (maybe 8+) would absolutely love it aswell so depends on the age of yours :)

katienana · 22/05/2023 21:51

Bali. We went in July. Its a long flight with kids. When you get there it's magical, the people are so welcoming and there is lots to do - volcano to see, the paddy fields, monkey temple, Ubud and all the craft/yoga/spiritual stuff there. Kuta is more busy and has an awesome waterpark.
We stayed in Sanur, in 2011 it was a nice resort with loads of gorgeous restaurants down the main road, no idea what it's like now. Our hotel had a private beach which was empty most days! You could hire bikes but we didn't bother.
We hired a driver we found on Trip advisor who took us to Ubud, and we visited a few different places including a place where the civet cats poo out the coffee berries and they make the best coffee from it. You wouldn't be bored and it's great to visit somewhere so different from the UK.
Is Thailand that rainy in June, I can remember a few down pours but they don't last long.

boredwithfoodprob · 22/05/2023 21:57

We went to Thailand for 2.5 weeks with a stop off afterwards for 3 nights in Hong Kong on the way home.
Don't worry about it being June - we got married in June too but travel agent advised us to stick to a certain area (we went to Ko Samui) and the weather was perfect! We booked through Trailfinders.

OneTwoThreeShake · 22/05/2023 22:01

We travelled around California, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho and Montana. Loved it.

I've been to Thailand 4 or 5 times in June and its been absolutely fine weather wise, an odd short downpour here and there but mostly dry and warm.
