Where did you go Honeymoon?

We are getting married next year and trying to pick a place to go on honeymoon. We can’t agree on a destination.

My partner wants to do the USA (New York and then a internal flight to Miami) and I would like to do Thailand or Bali. Honeymoon is/would be in June 2024 so thailands rainy season which kind of rules it out.

Where did you all go on honeymoon ? And would you recommend it….

We have to take our 2 kids so must be family friendly. (age 12/10)

3 nights in the Peak District in a lovely hotel with a 4 poster bed in October - was all we could afford and we we moving counties

My dad's house.

ExH organised it behind my back and I thought we were going somewhere nice and warm, but no. Even fir their north to spend a week with my dad and step mum. Not exactly romantic. There are many reasons he's an ex, and that is not the worst thing by a long shot!

We went to Florence for a week. It was gorgeous, we visited all the tourist attractions and art galleries, ate tonnes of pizza and nice food, drank lots of wine and spent loads of time in our teeny apartment reading books and doing what newlyweds do!

North Norfolk. Three nights camping with toddler DD then two nights just is in a boutique hotel.

It wasn’t Bali. But we were young, broke, very in love ( still are!) and it was magical.

We’ve travelled the world before age since, but nothing will beat that.

Sadly North Norfolk is not the place to go when you're broke newly weds these days, especially the boutique hotels!
We went to York for half a day and splashed out on a steak dinner at the Berni Inn on the river.

We did a week and a half driving from the North of New Zealand down to the South Island but also included stops in LA, Fiji and Sydney. So we had a bit of everything. It was November though so their Summer

Kauai, we flew to LA and stopped there for a couple of nights and then flew to Kauai for 12 nights. It was incredible.

We went to the Dominican Republic. 20 years ago . Retired here to Punta Cana 7 weeks ago! after over 50 trips in the last 20 years.

Singapore & Bali.

It was nice enough and we had a lovely time, but it was very, very far away and if if have looked at the map before I booked it (we were young!) then I'd just have done the last bit and gone to Australia!

Bali was very interesting and I liked the paddy fields, temples etc. Some parts did feel a bit rowdy/seedy and it wasn't beautiful 'enough' to travel that far for. It hasn't put me off Asia at all though and I'd love to return, although probably not to Bali!

Barbados, April 2003. 😀 It was wonderful, the snorkelling was out of this world!

It was so cold when we arrived back in this country afterwards, though, very early in the morning. 🤣🤣

itwassogrotesque · 22/05/2023 23:20

Sri Lanka

My husband got gastroenteritis on honeymoon and was ill for about five days (they think it may be that the salad was washed in unclean water).

He said he wouldn't go back if you paid him!

Tarkan · 22/05/2023 23:46

We went to York. We got a free upgrade to first class on the train there and back as well as some free alcoholic drinks, got to our hotel to find a lovely selection of free chocolates from York's Chocolate Story as well as a lovely room looking across the river towards York Minster in one direction and along the river in another.

We spent a lot of time just wandering around and going to pubs and restaurants, although we also went to the railway museum (I had been a few times before but DH had never been to York).

DH has a photo of me hugging the Mallard because it set the fastest steam train record on the date of my birthday (just a good few decades before I was born though!)

It was an amazing trip and we had the best time. Smile

Zhougzhoug · 22/05/2023 23:48

We went through the automatic car wash then off to big Morrisons. 10/10

TeenLifeMum · 22/05/2023 23:50

We went to Kenya but that’s currently on the unsafe to travel list. Risk of kidnapping. So don’t go there.

PurplePineapple1 · 22/05/2023 23:51

We went to York 😁 We ate and drank our respective bodyweights and had a fantastic time!

PurplePineapple1 · 22/05/2023 23:52

Tarkan haha snap!!

Tarkan · 23/05/2023 00:37

Great choice @PurplePineapple1 - sounds like we had very similar times there too. Grin

Majorca - the cheapest holiday in the brochure, all we could afford. It was December, hardly any other tourists, very quiet - we had a wonderful time.

Lake Garda, it was gorgeous.
Day tripped to Verona and Venice.
I hated Venice, but I absolutely adored Verona.

NoTeaNoShade · 23/05/2023 03:04

Oman. Loved it, very peaceful.

SparklyBlackKitten · 23/05/2023 03:08

It is not a honeymoon though.
It is a family vacation after you got married :)

So go anywhere ! See the Northern lights in Scandinavia. Or go to Italie to have a wonderful food journey. Or go to Indonesia where the people are beyond lovely. Go to Colombia for a trip of a lifetime. Sri Lanka for a spiced curry experience. Japan for an experience like no other

You should probably stop thinking of all these "honeymoon" destinations where you think one is supposed to go when one goes on honeymoon. Some places are better for actual honeymoon as there would only be 2 of you in a romantic atmosphere all loved up. Vs a holiday with the kids in the room next door and them complaining there is no wifi ;)

We did a week in New Zealand (Queenstown - skiing) and then a week in Fiji relaxing on the beach/at the pool.
