Dog walker killed by her own XL Bully Breed dog.

NOT a pack of 8 dogs as was reported repeatedly with concurrent complete slating of all professional dog walkers.

Absolutely awful. So many of us who have worked with dogs knew this would be the outcome and that packs of 8 dogs do not behave in this way.

After investigations are complete we are now told that the only dog destroyed was the walkers own XL Bully Breed dog. Over and over again it is these dogs and still today I see a man strutting around my locale with two of these type dogs, both unneutered and off lead 🤷🏼‍♀️

No surprise there.

That poor woman, when will these monsters be banned.

RoseBucket · 17/05/2023 18:32

The other dogs were taken away from their owners and placed in kennels at the time, I hope they were returned.

Two of the dachshunds have been returned thankfully.

That poor woman

My dad has this breed, it terrifies me, I don’t go to visit him anymore, his dog has attacked many local dogs on his daily walks, my dad won’t see sense though, he adores him 😞

My heart goes out to this poor woman.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 17/05/2023 18:39

I saw a drunk man pulling one along just days ago. Probably weighed more than he did.

This will keep happening and people will keep crying “it’s not the breed”. We don’t keep rhinos or bears as pets so why people think this breed (and other large breeds) is suitable for living in a house with a family I don’t understand.

megletthesecond · 17/05/2023 18:39

XL bullies are nasty things. How long does it take to bring in laws to crack down on them?

I used to be a dog walker - for a decade. I adore dogs. These breeds are problematic and I knew right from the start of the reporting this incident unfolding that there would be one involved. I don’t think they’re monsters. I don’t dislike them. But they are lethal when owned by people who are using them as status symbols, weapons, or simply don’t know how to handle them. This cannot be denied.

AndrexPuppy · 17/05/2023 18:41

Well no.

8 dogs were involved.

2 have been returned.
1 has been euthanised (the dead woman’s XL Bully)
5 remain in kennels awaiting discussions with their owners re ‘recommendations’ from the forensic report.

The XL may be the first of the group to be euthanised, rather than the ‘only’.

Plus investigations haven’t been concluded yet, an inquest will happen at a later date. I’m not a bully defender but the news report does not reflect the OP at all.

Lockheart · 17/05/2023 18:41

I think you need to read the article a bit more carefully.

She WAS attacked by the whole pack.

It is believed that her own Bully XL was the one which caused the fatal injuries and so is the only one that has as yet been put down.

Five dogs remain in police custody pending reports. Whether they will be destroyed is unknown.

AndrexPuppy · 17/05/2023 18:42

Indeed, @Lockheart

Lockheart · 17/05/2023 18:42

Just to be clear I also think American XL bullies should be banned, but this is a bit of a misrepresentation of the article.

Changethatnameagain2 · 17/05/2023 18:43

The leonberger was known to be problematic too so that may well be destroyed.

Changethatnameagain2 · 17/05/2023 18:43

Are XL Bullies just a back door way of legalising American pit bulls?

WhiteFire · 17/05/2023 18:44

Have I read a completely different article? 1 dog has been destroyed, 2 have been returned and the other 5 are still in kennels.

Her dog inflicted the fatal injuries, if and how the other 5 dogs were involved has not been reported and probably come out during the inquest. I'm not sure yet that this proves anything about professional dog walkers.

bottleofbeer · 17/05/2023 18:44

I truly believe there is something inherently wrong with this breed.

WhiteFire · 17/05/2023 18:46

lockheart and andrexpuppy we seem to have all reached the same conclusion.

The OP is misleading. Sadly I think some of the other dogs are likely to end up being destroyed too, as it does sound like more than 1 was involved in the attack. Even if it can't be proven which were involved, will the owners want to take the risk of having them back, when their dog has been involved in a fatal attack on a human?

Can you quote where it says specifically that it has been confirmed she was attacked by the whole pack? Two of whom have been allowed to go home. It doesn’t say that. It says:-

“Witnesses to the horrific attack said the dogs turned into a pack of 'wolves' when they attacked Natasha Johnston, 28, at the Gravelly Hill beauty spot in Caterham on January 12.”

That is how it was reported at the time, without any investigations at all. After investigations. One dog has been destroyed, two have gone home, five more remain in kennels being investigated. There were two witnesses, who saw her from a distance, both of whom were on horses and who retreated immediately to keep their horses safe. They saw her go down under a pack of dogs but cannot possibly know which we were biting and which were not. There will be an inquest in June.

My OP is not misleading. She was killed by her own dog and at this time the only thing we do know for certain is that she was NOT attacked by 8 dogs because 2 have gone home.

Like I said.

Multiple witness reports have confirmed she was attacked by a number of dogs, not just one.

Secondly, it's the first line of the article: A woman who was mauled to death by the eight animals...

StaringAtTheWater · 17/05/2023 18:53

It sounds like there were four dogs at least attacking her, so more may be put down. Further down the article it says:

*A 60-year-old woman on horseback saw something of it as she approached the brow of a hill at 2.30pm on the North Downs Way – a bridle path at Gravelly Hill, near Caterham, Surrey – flanked by a grass bank and bushes and trees.

Surrounded by dogs pulling frenziedly at her limbs, a blonde woman wearing a beige jacket was on the ground, sitting but never quite managing to stand up. She never did.

'When we saw her she was about 50ft away,' the horsewoman told The Mail on Sunday.

'She was swamped by at least four medium-sized dogs, maybe more, attacking her, pulling her at arms and sides and she was screaming and shouting.' But perhaps surprisingly, there was no barking, a chilling detail that adds another layer to the horror.*
