Dog walker killed by her own XL Bully Breed dog.

NOT a pack of 8 dogs as was reported repeatedly with concurrent complete slating of all professional dog walkers.

Absolutely awful. So many of us who have worked with dogs knew this would be the outcome and that packs of 8 dogs do not behave in this way.

After investigations are complete we are now told that the only dog destroyed was the walkers own XL Bully Breed dog. Over and over again it is these dogs and still today I see a man strutting around my locale with two of these type dogs, both unneutered and off lead 🤷🏼‍♀️

Nice bit of dead victim blaming there.

What a horrific way to die. Was there anyone around to help her?

Americano75 · 17/05/2023 18:58

God, that poor woman. Absolutely horrific.

Timeforchangeithink · 17/05/2023 18:59

I'm not sure what OP point is? 8 dogs - 2 returned, leaves 6 dogs attacked and witnesses say at least 4. 4 or 6 what does it matter - no change to outcome?

Grumpigal · 17/05/2023 18:59

You’ve completely misrepresented the article.

The inquest isn’t even finished.

There are still more than half the dogs in kennels awaiting decision.

No problem with saying that her dog was euthanised but you’ve really skewed the story OP. Perhaps not on purpose but still.

megletthesecond · 17/05/2023 18:59

I doubt there's anything anyone could have done unless they had a tranquilliser gun.

How could any witness help her though? Taking on an attacking pack that includes an XL bully and a Leonburger is a suicide mission. That poor woman never stood a chance.

Multiple witness reports have confirmed she was attacked by a number of dogs, not just one.

Secondly, it's the first line of the article: A woman who was mauled to death by the eight animals...

So they let two dogs involved in the mauling of a human being go home? 🤔 Worrying.

There is no confirmation that she was attacked by 8 dogs, there were only two witnesses who saw the incident from a distance and they removed themselves from the scene immediately. I have been a dog walker, when one dog kicks off it is total and utter chaos as they try to escape, which is what happened, all the dogs had to be searched for in the aftermath. You lead drop and let them go. She was unable to do this as they all got tangled up and couldn’t get away. They may have bitten her and each other in their desperation to get away but 8 dogs did not turn on her and all commit a coordinated frenzied attack.

It is just silly to keep asserting she was definitely attacked by 8 dogs, when the authorities don’t even know this given that they’re still investigating five of them and two have been ruled out and gone home. Only one has been destroyed, the one they know for certain killed her.

She apparently screamed at a lady on a horse to turn back when she went to help . Makes me cry even thinking of her suffering like that and still she was thinking of saving someone else from harm. I am disgusted by the anti dog brigade hijacking her death for their cause. Especially the victim blaming.

With the introduction of the Dangerous Dogs Act, we were promised that these animals would not be bred any more and would eventually decline.

Unfortunately the number of these bully types is ever growing and it is still putting people in danger. Dog charities are full of these for rehoming, with no regard for public safety. American bullies are advertised for sale and breeding.

Legislation is going forwards to force landlords to allow tenants to keep dogs like these in unsuitable flats or bedsits as a right. That's going to make it worse.

Nobody needs a bully breed or staffie. Dogs that are bred for fighting are a perpetual risk to other dogs, small animals and to people. They need to be neutered and import banned.

Bemyclementine · 17/05/2023 19:03

What a bizarre thing to argue the toss about.

stayathomer · 17/05/2023 19:07

So so horrible and sad, poor lady:(

Are XL Bullies just a back door way of legalising American pit bulls?
Yes, exactly and there are so many about. Pocket Bullies are another, usually Pit Bull x Patterdale. As a dog lover I detest the breed for what they represent (dog fighting), especially since a friend ended up in having facial reconstruction after being mauled by his own.

GoodVibesHere · 17/05/2023 19:13

What's your point OP?

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 17/05/2023 19:13

@Redebs Nobody needs a bully breed or staffie. please don't mix up staffies or British Bulldogs with Pit Bull crosses. They are completely different dogs.

They are bred to be fighting dogs. Staffies are responsible for a lot of attacks and there a lot of staffy-crosses out there bred for intimidation.

Ace56 · 17/05/2023 19:21

What an odd thread. I think OP is keen to assert that it wasn’t a whole pack of dogs and just one in order to defend dog walkers as she used to be one? As since then dog walkers have faced backlash for walking so many dogs at once as it can be dangerous etc etc.

Otherwise I don’t see why she’d be so adamant that only the bully breed was involved. Who cares whether it was just this one or whether it was multiple dogs?

Changethatnameagain2 · 17/05/2023 18:43

The leonberger was known to be problematic too so that may well be destroyed.

Not dangerous problematic, just an annoying hard-to-train puppy who liked to chew on furniture I believe. My dad's got one, he's a right soppy sod but was very hard to train as very stubborn and not very bright! Wouldn't hurt a fly though, there are definitely different types of 'problematic'.

I read a post yesterday on Facebook about two XL Bully’s who were shot by police because they had a ‘scuffle’ with another dog. Not sure of the full story but sounds like police definitely take them seriously.

Megifer · 17/05/2023 19:24

Can I have a "no one needs staffies" even though (proper) staffies are on no way connected or remotely similar in size to XL Bullies on the dog hater bingo please?

ohnonowwhat · 17/05/2023 19:25

Horrific way to die, poor woman - one of those stories that stays with you. I don't think we know yet how many dogs actually attacked, the witness just said several were pulling at her but they might've been just trying to detach their leads so they could get away, must have been terrifying for the poor things. I really don't know how or why the XL bully is allowed when the normal size bully isn't.
